Root Step by Step Rooting Instructions: for Huawei Ascend

Ok, I'm reading the tutorial on here on how to root my ascend. I got all the way to installing z4root, and running it. The problem is, when i tried starting the "permanent root" the tutorial says it's supposed to turn off, then back on. Mine doesnt, it just keeps loading it or something. Do I need to just let it sit for a while, and give it time, or would this mean something isn't done right?

Ok, well it restarted, but when I go back into z4root to check if its done right. It still gives me the option to temp or perm root. Doesnt that mean it's not rooted? Please, any help is appreciated

is you on 2.1 or 2.2, also try using gingerbrak...

Ok. So I rooted my phone. Ive got titanium on and got all the unnecessary apps off my phone. Now Im stuck on how to get cm6. Im not super tech savvy so I dont know all the lingo all that well. So if someone could dumb it down for me, that'd be awesome! haha!

Ok I'm a complete noob to thsi site and didn't know where to start looking so I decided to start a forum.

Recently bought a Huawei Ascend with Metro PCS and like the phone well enough but I've heard that I can root/flash/jailbreak one of those three to make it even better. Could anyone explain to me what those mean and what changes could I make to my phone if I perform one? I know I could figure out how to do any of them I just don't know what they'd be any good for just yet.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in adavance for all the help

Check out the "All Things Root" sub-forum. You'll find the people here can be very helpful if you run into problems with your phone.

Rooting your phone allows certain apps requiring SuperUser permission to work. It also makes it possible to remove bloatware (useless MetroPCS/Cricket apps) to free up valuable space.

Once rooted, you can also flash a custom ROM. Find more info in the sub-forum mentioned above. Particular the the Ultimate Ascend Customization Guide. There are several ROMs available for the Ascend based on Android 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3.

I can see why people get real irritated with some of the questions people post...

First of all, READ.

Now to answer your question for the billionth time its been asked...

There is no "official" upgrade to 2.2 or 2.3 if you are on Cricket. METROPCS released an upgrade to 2.2 around a month or so ago...

What I would suggest, is to check out the "Ultimate Ascend Customization Guide". There are several ROMs available: Icarus is cleaned up, tweaked 2.1; cm6 is cleaned up, tweaked 2.2; and cm7 (there are multiple versions) is cleaned up, tweaked 2.3. You should find all the info you need in the thread mentioned above.

I just rooted my metro ascend with gingerbreak, and somewhere after the reboot (or during) my phone got changed to GMT instead of GMT-5. How do I change this back? And before I get the 'Settings > Date & Time' schtick, the box for automatic is checked and grayed out so when I tap it, nothing happens. Gonna try rebooting after TiBu is done backing everything up, so we'll see.

Try putting it in airplane mode first, change time, exit airplane mode. Or dial*228 and send. Welcome to the forums.

Awesome. Thanks, mate. I didn't even consider Airplane Mode xD

And thanks for the welcome; hopefully I can pick up some good ideas from here ^.^

You need the newest version of Root Explorer to delete the rest of the apps on the 2.2 update. Don't forget to change to r/w from r/o. And no, you don't need Z4root.

ok so i had my phone rooted with z4root when it was 2.1 but now i cant root it when i updated to 2.2. Gingerbreak wont work for me because every time i try to install it after downloading it, it says that there is a parsing error. Why do i keep on getting this error if i tried downloading gingerbreak from many different sites? I download gingerbreak from the computer and put it in sd card and try opening it in file manager. i click on it and it says parsing error. can somebody please help me?

did you try to download it on 4shared on your brower in your phone? version 1.2? and delete all data and cache of that app you've downloaded before..then try

Hi....I think the instructions seem great - if I could ever get past the rooting with Z4root..am running android 2.2, downloaded z4root.apk from various sources (as I have uninstalled it after not getting rooted)...usb debugging enabled...the application never gets past "rooting exploit" or "rooting shell" without closing suddenly...

I apologize if this is a duplicate message but I couldn't seem to find the answer any where in the forum....if you can point the direction or have an answer I would GREATLY appreciate it...when I have downloaded the app and subsequently deleted, turned off phone, took out battery and then restarted before downloading the app again...but then I am not techno saavy....

Frustrated....

that was earlier......later today.....
decided to use GingerBreak and finally rooted my Ascend....am using TiBu Pro to help delete bloatware....

everyone was saying z4root was so easy I kept banging my head against the wall with it when it only took Gingerbreak 1 min.....thanks to this forum I was able to find my answer.

I rooted my droid today using gingerbreak. I'm on the 2.2 update and when I try to delete the pre-installed apps, some of them say "Failed to locate the apk file." Is there a way for me to uninstall these apps without it saying that?
