IT USE TO BE ROOTED AND NOW I CANT GET IT TO BE ROOTED AGAIN, I TRIED TO ENTER THE FAST DEBUG MODE WHEN U HIT THE ROCKER DOWN AND THE END BOTTON AND THE POWER BUT IT WILL NOT ENTER THE MODE SO I CANT DO THE CWM... MY FONE WILL NOT CONNECT TO THE WIFI AT MY HOUSE ANYMORE IT WILL SAY AUTHENTICATING AND THAN IT DISCONNECTS... I JUS WANT TO CUSTOMIZE MY FONE TO MAKE IT FAST AND FUN BUT IM HAVING SO MANY PROBLEMS PLZ HELP!!!:mad::mad:

First off, stop with the caps and bold text. Makes people feel like you are yelling at them and that's not good when you are asking for help.
Second, we need a little more information. When you installed 2.2, what exactly did you install? CM6 is based off of 2.2, and the Metro upgrade is 2.2.2. So is the upgrade from PlayfulGod.
Third, when you tried volume down, end call, and power, what happened? You only said it would not go into the Fast Debug Mode. Is anything at all happening? And your phone is off when you are doing this, right?

Gingerbreak v1.1 will root 2.2, seriously quit with the caps. Also, if you do a search or actually read a few threads, you'll see this has been asked/answered hundreds of times.

lol sorry bout the caps... um i did the metro upgrade 2.2 and now my wifi is not picking up ive done everything i rebooted, had my system and service refreshed, i deleted my wifi and reconnected it and all it says is that it is authenticating than it says disabled but my phone will connect to any other wifi i no its not my router because my sister has the exact same phone and did the exact same thing she upgraded her system with metro 2.2 and she has the wifi connection... um ive read similar situations on here but i didnt understand how to fix it and the steps where confusing... and no i wasnt aware my phone was suppost to be shut off when trying to fast debug mode debug... and i also wasnt aware that there was a different way to root my phone after the upgrade i asumed it was the same z4 process ive done before

For the wifi, did you restore settings through TiBU? That caused problems for me when I upgraded to cm6. I'm not on Metro so I didn't have the option of the official update, but I assume it could be a similar scenario. I had to reflash and my problem was solved. I would suggest doing stock recovery, then try the update again.

I don't know about the fast debug though...

The storage on you're phone has nothing to do with z4root. You probably have have much apps, music, pictures etc on you're phone. Delete some stuff and you're good to go.

I did several searches with no luck.

I just got my Huawei Ascend from MetroPCS 2 days ago. Works great. I am having a problem with getting Z4Mod to work properly.

I followed the directions above with the exception of downloading it from my phone. I downloaded it on my computer, copied it over to my SD card, installed it from Astro File Manager. It seemed to have installed properly.

I run the app, select permanent root and it just sits there spinning while at the bottom it says, "Running exploit in order to obtain root access". I'm pretty sure it's a crash, but I can quit the app and run it no problem immediately after.

I've tried with/without an SD card in. USB on and off, plugged in, not plugged in. I even shaved my eyebrows. I didn't mess around with the settings much. USB Debug on, unknown sources on and allow mock locations on. Rebooted device several times.

Hopefully, you find that one little thing wrong. My bet is despite only having it a couple of days, I installed and/or deleted something that has me all jacked up now. So if we can't figure out a fix........

Will I have to restore the factory default?

Could I instead install the image I saw that already roots and decrapifies?

And if yes to either, could I get some slightly more "for dummy" instructions because a lot of those acronyms were going over my head. Also, will a new image not have my number programmed in there? Will that require that I call my carrier? Metro

Thanks in advance for your help. Once I get the newbie out of my system (like I did with my former iPhone), I intend to be very helpful in this forum as well. It's nice to see a no troll zone for a change.

Welcome to the forums! Since you just got your Ascend from Metro, I'm assuming that it has the 2.2 update. Z4root will not work for you. You need to download an app called Gingerbreak.

Is z4root a good option for permanent root to install cm7? I tried it and it worked fine. I used root check and it says root access was successful, busybox was installed correctly. Wireless tether and titanium backup worked. Should I proceed with flashing clockworkmod recovery and cm7?
Thanks in advance

yup your good. Tho you dont need root to flash CWM and install CM7 if you flash CWM via fastboot, only if you install it via rom manager.

I've got a brand new ascend running the 2.2 update. Following the guide I downloaded z4root and installed it. I checked the appropriate dev boxes as well.
But when I tried to root my phone the app progressed a little then crashed to desktop. Now the app just hangs on "running exploit to obtain root access" I've tried restarting my phone, pulling the battery, etc but always with the same result.
I even tried running the 2.2 update again to return my phone to factory defaults so I could try again, but no joy.
The phone runs fine, I just can't seem to root it.

I tried to root my Metro Ascend and after downloading the z4root when trying to install a message popped up that said. "There is a problem parsing the package". Does anyone know what that means?

You probably had a bad download, but I see in your profile that you have 2.2.2, so Z4root won't work anyway. You need Gingerbreak. This is quickly turning into the new "will Flash player work on the Ascend" question.lol
