Steve Jobs has passed away: Condolences Thread

Sorry that he's gone. He was an innovator, and a good marketer. Knew how to sell the mystique which MS never did. I didn't buy into it, but can see the genius.

I'd be looking for some kind of fallout. I don't think there will be another to replace SJ at Apple. MS had been downgraded since Ballmer took over, so it will be wait and see how visionary and thorough Cook is. If he's too aggressive with suing everyone, that might not help, and if he's too dependent on marketing analysis, he won't be as innovative. I hope for the best for the company, we need competition.

I never liked apple and never will. While I never agreed with Steve's methods and his way of doing business, he made an impact in the tech world. In a weird way, its because of him that Android strives to be the best. Competition is what drives companies. Farewell to our long time adversary. May he rest in peace.

Yeah, let a few days go by before bashing and give the guy some respect. Well enough I guess.
My beef is not with the guy. He was brilliant and (helped) make some pretty cool products that changed the world. What I don't understand is the near idol-worship of people that are his "followers". He is just a man, not a god. I do not put my trust in man nor worship them. I certainly won't cry over his leaving as I have seen some do on TV news. That simply amazes me.

I think the words of +Sergey Brin, posted shortly after the news broke, speak volumes for the esteem with which the industry held SJ.

From the earliest days of Google, whenever Larry and I sought inspiration for vision and leadership, we needed to look no farther than Cupertino. Steve, your passion for excellence is felt by anyone who has ever touched an Apple product (including the macbook I am writing this on right now). And I have witnessed it in person the few times we have met.

On behalf of all of us at Google and more broadly in technology, you will be missed very much. My condolences to family, friends, and colleagues at Apple.

Ive always admired apple even though they dont get on with me as i find them esp. the PC's difficult to use.

Either way; respect!

I don't own a single Apple product anymore, but if it wasn't for the innovations that Jobs brought to the technology world, we wouldn't have things like Android because of the buzz that the iOS devices created with apps.

A true R.I.P. to him though. The guy was intelligent and made an impact on this world. Good luck to Apple too regardless of our differences.

Condensed perspective: well-known human being with a following and an impact on the world dies at a young age of a horrible disease = grief felt by many world wide.

I have to respectfully disagree with you here.

Okay, if the early Apple and Mac computers never happened, what would Windows 3.1 consist of? And if the early iPhones never happened, what would an Android smartphone consist of? No way to answer either question other than to say we know what they wouldn

Not really the place to have an apple/windows, jobs did this/no he didnt discussions.

There are plenty of those threads on here to do that. Lets just leave this thread to commiserate.

I agree. If it turns into much in the way of "this or that OS sucks," etc, we'll lock it up as having run its course.

THIS IS NOT A JOKE, nor do i intend it to be disrespectful in any way:

I honestly believe he was reading the MASS amount of negetivity about the iPhone 4S and see his company being taken to the slaughterhouse and he just couldnt live with it. His level of responsibility is going to be the highest possible levels of stress and 99% bad reviews is going to be the most stressful moment ever. I feel for him, i lived doing something he lived but ultimately it was that that i am sure killed him.

I don't think Jobs was the type who really cared what other people thought. That was part of his success. If he cared what people thought he'd have never made an iPod. MP3 players were already out there and weren't seeing wide adoption. He'd have never made an iPhone. Smart phones were already around and while enterprise was using them, consumers were largely disinterested. He'd have never made an iPad. Tablets had been out for a decade and every single last one of them had been a failure. Jobs didn't care what people thought. He was arrogant enough to think that he was always right and brilliant enough that he usually was.

RIP Steve. He was a genius of our time and none of the smartphones and other gadgets we all know and love would be the same without him.

Yes I disagree with the iron fist that Apple holds over its' devices and software, but there's no denying he/his company created some truly amazing devices and software.

He will be missed.

Cancer.

Didn't like his ethics or contributions to technology, but he was a human and not an evil one so RIP

Without his contributions to technology android probably wouldn't exist -- at least not anything like its' current form.

He took the baton & ran with it. I would like to echo other sentiments here that computing & mobile computing would not be so great as it is now without him. A huge loss to the technology world & us, the public.

One of the things that I loved most about Steve Jobs is that you could clearly tell that he genuinely loved every one of his products and was one of the most passionate CEOs that we've ever seen.

So who’s the next visionary in this field? And by “who,” I’m referring to a person, not a corporation.
