Where would Android be if there was no Steve Jobs? Love him or hate him, he pushed the competition to be better and push harder.

Exactly! Like I said earlier. Competition Breeds Innovation. Without the iPhone, Android wouldn't have gotten where it it today as fast as it did without the competition from the iPhone.

I was shocked when I found out today that Steve Jobs passed away. He sure changed the world of Tech.

R.I.P. Steve Jobs

as much as i hate apple, i do respect mr jobs. like evocrack says, without him we probably would not have android phones. we would not have our evos to play with. he set the bar for everybody else to rise to that level. curious to see how apple move on from here.

He was still on the board of Pixar I think. He had a way of grabbing something that already existed and turning it into something great.

That is probably the defining statement about Steve Jobs. Even though he wasn't much of an inventor, he was a magnificent and one of the best innovators that the tech industry has ever seen. He took existing things and made them better or more user friendly. He may not have invented multitouch, but he sure knew how to utilize that technology for the mainstream market far earlier than anyone else even imagined. He may not have invented tablets, but look where the iPad is now. What he did with the iPad was like what he did with the iPhone albeit less revolutionary. Tablets before the iPad were quite... archaic and cumbersome in comparison (from what I can remember).

It's truly a devastation for all of us that a crucial innovator of the tech market passes away. Who knows what else he would have introduced mainstream or what technology he would have utilized in future products. I hope that Tim Cook has the same innovating prowess that Steve Jobs had so that it can continue and provide for solid competition for Google and all of Google's partners, especially Samsung (which to me is Apple's main competitor in terms of hardware).

You knew his end was near when he stepped down as CEO of apple. He knew if his death happened while he was still in charge. The company on the stock market would have taken a nose dive. Just look at everytime he was in the hospital the stock dropped. So it shows how much he loved apple to step down and minimize the caos. I never liked apple as allways found their products to bland for the prices they charged. He was a marketing genius. Who would of thought an electronic device would be like designer clothing. Everyone had to have one. To show it off and to make others green with envy.

I am sad of his passing and hope he went peacefully. Now the real question now is what happens to apple . Beings their star player isn't around

You think apple will make an iPad headstone? Being serious here.

Cancer.

Didn't like his ethics or contributions to technology, but he was a human and not an evil one so RIP

same, although is starting premise was good it digressed to a company of greed and over exerted control of markets.

that said as a human being he was a great man and he did have a lot to do with why certain products have been reinvented to suit modern environment
People like him are needed in the industry even just for motivation (rather than innovation)

RIP mr Jobs.

Very sad and considering the form of cancer he had I am amazed how well he did, shows the sort of drive he had. Also sad that he went through a liver transplant which was never going to achieve much. He is now free from all that and one wishes him a restful repose. I am also going to shamelessly take this opportunity to ask where ever you are in the world to support your local Hospice movement. We work so hard to support people in these situations and their families with very little government support.

“Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful… that’s what matters to me.” (Steve Jobs)

And that he did.

Love him or loathe him, you can't really argue with his accomplishments and what he did for the tech industry.

RIP.

The Tech community has lost a giant. My condolences go to his family. Had apple not built the first personal computer in the 70's then who knows what Technology would look like now. Genius is Genius rather you like it, love it, or don't care much for it. He still deserves the Respect of the Community.

May God be with his family and bring them peace.

Here's a measure of the man.... Google's landing page today:

+1

Couldn't have put it better myself

you didn't have to be an Apple fan to admire Steve Jobs. he was an true innovator and a marketing magician.

Cheers Steve.

Although his company was ethically controversial, the mastermind behind the whole operation is what made the Apple brand and created so many loyal followers...

R.I.P. Steve Jobs.

One cannot love technology and not be deeply moved by the passing of one of the greatest innovators of our time. He brought us the beauty of simplicity of form and an outstanding performing lineup of game-changing products. He did this surrounded by a sea of clones and sameness. He decided to do something else...something other. something great. And he kept topping himself.

I tend to think that he died when the first announcement of his death broke, shortly after his resignation. But timing wise, it was not good for shareholders' warm and fuzzy feelings prior to their big launch event...which fizzled badly without his presence. Then there was the absolute silence around the event. Steve was gone.

So, we who love Android recognize the passing of a great one - One who saw the world and decided to make it a better and more interesting place because he put legs on the vision that was within him. Genius. Innovator. Game-changer. Fierce competitor. Steve Jobs will be missed.

THIS IS NOT A JOKE, nor do i intend it to be disrespectful in any way:

I honestly believe he was reading the MASS amount of negetivity about the iPhone 4S and see his company being taken to the slaughterhouse and he just couldnt live with it. His level of responsibility is going to be the highest possible levels of stress and 99% bad reviews is going to be the most stressful moment ever. I feel for him, i lived doing something he lived but ultimately it was that that i am sure killed him.
