Stock does have the menu I think, however stock 4.2.2 needs the build.prop, apn, and sound fixes plus a factory reset to make it all stick nicely, some people have managed to do so without the reset but they ended up doing something else and never heard if the menu was there.Good call. That fixed my issue, though still doesn't help my gf. Though she's still on the stock rom/kernel. Her lte works, but still doesn't have the menu shortcut. I'm guessing that being stock and not custom is what's the issue.

Trying to wrap my head around this. Got a N4 this week which I've rooted and flashed the mysterious AOKP ROM. The radio is .48. Do I still need to flash the .33 and do the edits, or just the edits?
Yes, a .33 radio or earlier is necessary for lte to work properly. Since the device isn't certified for LTE use with FCC, Google implemented software to prevent using the phone in that manor. So the only way to do so is to use a version before they patched it.
You're not the only one. For some reason, it can be really tough to get that option to appear. It isn't necessary to get LTE to work, but is a pain if you don't have it. Basically you will need to redo the dial code every time the phone reboots. I so far haven't been able to get it to show on the stock rom with many attempts to fix it, though it seems to show up on custom roms no problem.Great. So I've done all the steps up th the lat one before reboot. I must be blind, because I can't find the Network Mode setting.

If the menu appears, it should appear just like my picture. After making sure the radio is flashed, the build.prop is fixed, and the dial code has taken affect, and the apn settings set, a reboot might be required before it will appear. If it does, it should look something like that.So Network Mode is the same as Network Type? And I need to set Network Type after every reboot? BTW, I'm not running stock. I'm on Mysterious AOKP. So maybe not all custom ROMs show it
For me reception has been the same for .33 and .48 However I did have a 1% increase in H+ speed on .48 vs .33 where reception was good.
So I noticed. Upload was about equal to download. Well, if there's ever a fix where I can get network mode to stick over a reboot, I'd switch. As it is, I reboot way too often and manually setting it each time would get old real fast.

That's understandable. I really wish I new why it was so picky about showing. But at least the option is there in case you want/need it. It's for that reason that I'd stay on the .33 radio if that's an option and just have 2 apn's, one for epic.tmobile and the other for fast.t-mobile

a factory reset is required for a stock rom to get the settings to stick.
Also someone on xda forum had a script of some sort that allowed you to get the setting to stick without factory reset, however it sometimes reverts so something to keep in mind.
That's a good idea. Is changing apn dynamic or is a reboot required?
I'm not on stock (I'm on Mysterious AOKP). Besides, wouldn't a factory reset reformat my sdcard? Not a dealbreaker, but I'd certainly like to avoid it.
That script seems promising. I'll look for it. Thx.
you do not need a reboot for apn changes, the signal will go dark for a few seconds then come back with the new apn setting.Apn's are dynamic to the best of my knowledge, though I admit this is one feature I haven't played with a lot.
A factory reset won't clear the sd card if you use a custom recovery like cwm or twrp to do it. Only stock recovery wipes the sd card.
