Root The "Fix everything by turning your phone into an Evo 3d" thread

it's from Boost, but I assumed they have the same infrastructure as VM so it should work. I QPST'd it and so far works fine. 1x, 3g and WiMax all work.
It's the same PRL.
PRL only effects what towers you can connect to (it's a list of them), it will never effect radios.

Now I'm completely and totally confused. If I am HTC unlocked but S-On and have 4EXT installed and can use it, can I flash the radio update? I was under the impression that 4EXT could do kernels but not radios. Am I all wrong?
Flashing these is handled by the Bootloader. The recovery is never even touched, so no, you cannot do it with 4EXT.

Get S-off, you won't regret it, no more flashing separate kernels, run whatever you want...

It didn't work...also would you mind making a mirror for the Harmonia rom, just because the server has been down for goo.im for quite a while, much thanks would be appreciated :)

Mirror up in about 10 minutes - http://vmroms.com/~vmstorage/Harmonia/Evo V/3.15/Harmonia_3.15_Evo_V.zip

I'm kind of new to this phone and it's a lot different than the Triumph (I miss Gingerbreak). I unlocked the bootloader using HTCDev and I'm currently running Mobsterz Rom (Not MIUI). Can I just update the Radio and PRI or do I have to do HBOOT as well. I am going to wait for CM9 to come out officially for our phone. One more thing, putting those files one by one onto the SD Card and then booting into HBOOT updates the whatever is in that file (Radio, PRI, etc.)? Or do I need to actually flash them from HBOOT? Can't wait to get this sucker hoppin' and I love how awesome you guys are!

Let me put the original quote and your reply in context:

now i am rooted with s-on and 4ext is it possible to update the others but the hboot

Absolutely, this was why the files included were modded so you could do exactly that.

The others would be PRI and radio. Which is why I said I was confused because your reply implies that one could flash PRI and radio with 4EXT and S-On. Thanks for clearing it up. I finally did the whole boot my Mac into Windows 7 and install device drivers and everything else necessary to do the S-Off. Easy enough once I got all the initial work done. Just not very Mac-like ;)

I'm having problems finding which port to use on QPST. I've looked in device manager and I don't have an option for ports. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Open Device Manager and click on Modems. Right click on HTC USB Modem and select Properties. Click the Modem tab. Port: will be there.

Meanrom was recently rebuilt to work on the newest Sprint hboot (so yes, it is one of the latest), and may not work on the older Hboot. A few Sprint devs have started to do this and it is kind of splitting the community. I haven't had a chance to see how the new firmware is running, but it's starting to reach a point where you have to choose between older firmware and lots of roms, or newer firmware on a few select new roms.

Here is the warning on Meanrom:
"Do not flash the 2.89 kernel unless you've upgraded your hboot to 1.58 s-off or you will get boot loops!"

In this thread, we are using the 1.4 Eng hboot because it is the most compatible.

CM7, AOKP, AOSP, and CM7 only work on the older 1.4 ENG Hboot.
New Sprint based ICS roms are only using the 1.57 hboot.

When we started experimenting with the Hboots, the new roms were not out, and Sprint users were still testing the new Hboot.

The new Meanrom did work on my JB hboot 1.57 :) I'm on 1.4 now

I am currently rooted and have midnight roms latest update. I am thinking about doing the s-off so I can get the fix everything update that will include fixes with the signal fluctation and signal strength. Before I proceed, I do have a few questions that Im hoping you guys could answer for me. Will doing s-off completely wipe out the data (rom backups, titaminum backups, mp3s, etc) from my card? If so, can I just move them to my pc, then move them back after this is done?? Also, isnt 4ext (my current recovery) on my sd card and if so it would wipe that too, dont I need that for s-off? Also, I read in some previous posts that they went into a chatroom for help, how do I get into this chatroom if I need additional help? Is there a link in these threads for the chatroom? I would feel a little safer in doing this if I had a chatroom I could go into if I run into problems. When I successfully do s-off, will this take me back to my midnight rom I currently have on there now, or will it be completely stock?? Also, is there a step by step guide to do this s-off? I am a noob when it comes to this in depth configuration. I appreciate any and all feedback that you guys can give me.

From what I've seen sd cards getting wiped are usually caused by doing the wire trick too soon. The program itself attempts to restore your card, after the program finishes however the safest bet is to just use a spare, you don't need anything on the card while performing the wire trick.

I fully recommend using an empty card anyhow, otherwise it will try and backup everything on it, and then restore it. If you have a large card, it can take a VERY long time. For me it was 18gigs, not something I wanted to wait through a backup and restore of over slow USB 2.0.

So I can get to the part to enter MSL code but when I tried using MSL reader from Play Store it says:

Warning: Your serial number doesn't appear to be from an HTC device. This application has only been tested on HTC phones.

Also when I tried dialing ##25327# (clear) I was asked for a password to reset.

Help appreciated

The new Meanrom did work on my JB hboot 1.57 :) I'm on 1.4 now

I'm on JB hboot 1.58.5858. It'll work with the latest anthrax, 2.89, power kernel, and VM stock derivatives. Since everybody seems to be moving to newer kernels I switched hboots.

Wipe cache and dalvik and re-install Midnight, that should fix it.

how do i boot into recovery? (i have 4ext) whenever i go to the bootloader it asks me if i want to update and if i say yes or no it just sticks on the boot logo, would removing the hboot from my sd card get rid of the prompt and allow me to choose recovery?

EDIT: i was right, just removed file went into revovery and did what you said, now do i still have your hboot or no?

Well...I installed Harmonia 3.15 and then the hboot which came out to be 1.4.2000 or something, and then i installed the radio and the radio img won't stick, it says i'm still on radio 1.06 or something...any ideas how to make it stick?

anyone else having problems receiving calls and texts after updating this? Just found out that all of my calls have been going to voice mail without me knowing, and I haven't been receiving a ton of text messages.

I rebooted my phone and the service programming menu popped up. I disabled service programming and that seemed to have fixed it for now.

Honestly if this problem happens again I'm gone from Virgin for good.
