Root The Official "I can't get my NC to root" thread

It appears we are being kicked off this thread and directed to another. Unfortunately, I read through the "Rooting after 1.1 Update" thread and that doesn't appear to help me at all.

Will start a new thread if I decide to continue.

Lol. awww "kicking you out" seems mean...It's just re-directing that's all. No kicking of any sort. :)

Basically, Bg's last post is what is in the Rooting after 1.1 thread.

Really almost there. You just have the wrong file. Don't give up.

Sorry. I was tired/cranky/frustrated. You were not being mean, just doing your job really. I knew that I was not really using the correct thread, but this is the first time I've been able to get help, and I couldn't resist taking it as far as I could.

If it were a big deal, I would have redirected you a while back. I think it might be beneficial for others to see your challenges whether it is exactly on topic or not.

I just wasn't going to throw a wrench in your way by making you pick up and leave. bgrutter and others were doing a great job trying to get you up and running from the posts I've read. But I'm a little bit more lenient on straying from the main topic than some.

So what's the latest? You rooted successfully?

Don't I wish! Tried twice last night using both the Autonooter instructions from Unlocker, and the one on YouTube (can't remember the guys name), and using two different imaging programs (WinImage and Win32), AND 2 different sd cards. Nothing worked. I figure I'm either downloading or extracting (or whatever) the wrong file(s). OR there is something wrong with my card reader(s), but one is a usb reader and the other is a card reader, and I find it hard to believe that both are bad. :mad:

Any advice? First I was too nervous to try rooting, but now that I've tried I'm just frustrated. Is there another tablet that is "easier" to root, i.e. fewer steps, or via usb cable, or (dare I say it) OTA? Should I try a GTab instead? You know my needs are simple - Android/Google Market, 512 DDR, capacitive touch screen, flash 10.1, under $400. Please don't say Archos - been there, done that, have the return receipt to prove it.....

+1 on bgrutter's posts. I thought it was awesome that he included pics of the Winimage process. :D

I know. I thought that was pretty damn nice of him myself. That's why I've always loved this forum...people always willing to lend a hand.

The tablets are new to us all so I can't tell you how great it is to have people willing to help answer questions or provide walkthroughs. Thanks to everyone who responds when they could easily just ignore!

Yep, first try - it had to have been the file. Knew it was working when I plugged in the NC and it went through several cycles of booting then stopping, then booting then stopping, and then the android "droid" appeared on the screen. What a fabulous feeling! :D

Lol! I don't know about "Queen" but that is certainly what it feels like! Thanks again for all the support. Everyone has been just wonderful. I'm sure I'll be coming back for more help in the near future (have to figure out how to get froyo on it), but I think I'll sit back and enjoy my minor victory for now. Thanks again.:D

Thanks so much! Such a wonderful forum with such helpful people. Made me feel like this was something I really could do. I highly recommend that anyone out there that is just thinking about doing it, but may be a little nervous - DO IT! There is lots and lots of support here. I was (am) a big wimp, and if I could do it, anyone can!

Yes! I ride a big honkin' 750lb Harley, but I am (was) nervous about rooting my NC. Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? But we are all afraid of something; and the older I get, the more I try to face mine instead of back off. That's why I'm still so excited about rooting my NC - it was a major obstacle and I defeated it! :p

No Problem...Hopefully I didn't miss any "on-topic" posts. Seems that the thread was derailed on page 1 :)

I'm sure you will not be the last to have issues with rooting. Hope it's all working out for you now and you're finally enjoying the NC! ;)

Thanks. I am enjoying it but still have a lot of questions that I seem to be having a difficult time finding addressed in any threads. Will start a new thread referencing those when I get them all sorted out. Want to keep this one specific to rooting issues themselves.
