Root uggh!!! Need help!!

You can flash a recovery without the pc36 img...do you have a recovery now?

You can flash a recovery in terminal no need to press volume
Not sure I completely follow, some of the verbage has me confused. I am using ROM Manager, recovery right?, I was able to load a new ROM on the card via pc and then Flash it on the phone. This is only the second time I was able to successfully flash a ROM on the phone. But now its completely bare and I am also worried about the PCM361.img issue at recovery boot.

Rom manager is just a front program so to speak for clockwork mod recovery. Do your self a favor and get used to using your recovery manually. You can navigate there by rebooting to recovery or powering down then back on while holding volume down, which goes to hboot, from there you navigate to recovery.

Why are you trying to flash a pc36img file?

What exactly needs fixed here now? I imagine your issues have arisen from using rom manager and not completing a full wipe prior to flashing. Also some errors may have come from the recovery version you have...some don't work with all script types.

You just want your contacts back now our do you still want a diff recovery and to be able to flash any rom?

There is no fixing your contacts being gone that I know of unless you explicitly backed it up to the sd card. Use google for a second to back them up, then kill it if you don't want it after that. Then when you flash to a new rom sync for a second and get them back then kill it....

Ok gonna try to reply to each post from above.
because when I boot into recovery & it scans the SD card. It said, granted it flashed very fast, that the PC361.img or whatever couldnt be found or was invalid (paraphrase). Yes I did use ROM Manager, clockworkmod is what I have been using. I can get into recovery manually, power button and volume button down. I have also gotten pretty good at navigating through those menus, doing it all day today. I also didnt do a full wipe till right before I actually got a ROM to flash properly, go figure! But when I tried to restore to a previous backup, that I renamed and restored to before so I know its good, I get stuck directly after reboot.

I guess I thought backing up user data would include my contacts saved on the phone? probably why most use google instead of saving on phone. Do you know how to explicitly save contacts? Export I assume?

oh, also. Big F'in thanks for getting back at me so quickly. Not having my damn phone working was freaking me out. Even when I scattered my screen I used it for a week with no issue while the replacement glass & tools came in the mail. I fixed the screen in & out in 1 hour. But having a brick in my pocket was wearing on my nerves till I could get home and really get my hands on it.

back to me being the original poster, I have the zip file on the root of my card. I boot up holding the power and vol down buttons. I see hboot flash the zip but then it doesnt say for me to do anything. I manually scroll to recovery and it just sticks on the white screen. I really need to unroot so I can return this phone. any suggestions as what to do

hboot didnt flash anything without you allowing it...it will ask you to update...did you then press volume up to allow it? It will then update and ask you if you want to reboot? Did you then press volume up to reboot?

It seems to me what you think is hboot flashing is hboots usual checks. Probably ends with no image, wrong image...?

Is the file on the root (very top level, not in a folder) of your sd card and is it named PC36IMG? it must be both and if it is hboot will recognize it...?

it is named pc36IMG.zip on the root of my card. Not in any folder. I am familiar with placing files on the root because I use to root and flash on my droid x with verizon. When I boot up the phone is doesnt ask me anything. It just runs thru the hboot start up. I have to manually scroll to hboot if I want to do it.

remove the .zip and try again

I already did that 10 minutes ago and same thing happens. I rooted the phone using the reflash package(if that means anything) I have clockword mod thru rom manager(if that means anything)

honestly ive never seen hboot not flash a pc36img file...you lost me here though, lets look into this "When I boot up the phone is doesnt ask me anything. It just runs thru the hboot start up. I have to manually scroll to hboot if I want to do it."

When you boot up? When you go to hboot you mean? You have to manually scroll to hboot, i dont know what this means. You get to hboot by powering off and then holding volume down and power...there is no scrolling to hboot. What menu are you looking at when its not flashing the zip it should be flashing...

also try to redownload the file...

When you are in hboot does it say s-on or s-off?

when I reboot into recovery my screen looks like this--on the top of the phone screen it says:Supersonic EVT3 SHIP S-Off

sorry i didnt refresh myself for your situation lol...yes you have s-off...

you may have a bad download, what are you trying to flash exactly and where did you get it?

Still try and explain the whole hboot situation too as that is not clear...

OK cool, that is your hboot screen where the flashing should happen for the pc36img when you get there it should ask to update if that zip i son your sd card...it is not...

OK what are you flashing and where did you get it?

I got the pcimg file from this thread. I am trying to unroot so I can return this phone to sprint. My above post shows you what my screen looks like when I boot into recovery. From that screen I can manually scroll thru the menu

OK try one more time, if not we will go a different route, you can boot your phone all the way up right?

dl the amon ra 2.3 file from this site and then try and flash from hboot, named pc36img of course. go to hboot by powering down and then holding volume down and while still holding that press and hold power till it goes to your hboot screen.

just fyi this is what we will be doing next if this new dl fails

4) Extract recovery.img from the PC36IMG.zip for the recovery you want
5) Copy recovery.img to the root of your sdcard
6) From the terminal type:

su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

Once you reboot into recovery, you'll have whatever recovery you just flashed. Note that steps one and two only have to be done once.

Hopefully you have a custom rom with flash_image recovery already on it...

I never put a rom on after rooting. I kept the stock rom I am placing the image recovery onto root now what is su and what terminal do I use?

You can download terminal emulator from market and su is what you type in that grants terminal emulator super user permissions. You do have super user app correct? I have my doubts about this working on a stock rom and we cant flash the image_recovery file without a recovery to begin with. We can try anyhow...

I have a strong feeling it was a bad download or a naming error, this would be the first time ive seen an hboot with s-off fail to see a pc36img file that was named properly and located properly.

I do have super user but I cant download from the market because I dont have service now. So I take i am screwed. I dont know why recovery cant find the pcimg file
