4) Extract recovery.img from the PC36IMG.zip for the recovery you want
5) Copy recovery.img to the root of your sdcard
6) From the terminal type:
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Once you reboot into recovery, you'll have whatever recovery you just flashed. Note that steps one and two only have to be done once.
Hopefully you have a custom rom with flash_image recovery already on it...

I typed that into terminal emulator and it says file not found. I know for sure that recovery.img is saved to the root of my SD card.

can you explain in a bit more detail on the flash part? I saved it to root, the whole zip. rebooted into recovery. installed zip from SD, and it failed.Download and flash this zip file from recovery

my dumb ass left .zip on the file. Just deleted in in Astro. was that the issue?Ok flash that file then try again
i have file extensions showing, helps me find certain types of files easier visually.If it had two zips on it...might be in amend script in which case you can't flash it.

went into Astro, and into system folder, bin folder, no file named flash image or anything close to it.Sorry underscores don't show with my font...
Ok go to system/bin and see if you have a file in there called flash image
