That zip file has been available for weeks. And to installing that update requires you to be rooted and have an unlocked bootloader which will require wiping your entire phone memory. This update being available doesn't really help any of us truly "stock" users who are unrooted and still have locked bootloaders. The only way to get this update without rooting and unlocking your bootloaders will be OTA.
 
My phone won't turn on. Power cord or not. Last time I looked at it, it was updating some apps. Is it possible that I'm getting the OTA and it's taking a long time to reboot?
 
Interesting...I just flashed the stock 4.0.2 recovery to see what options are available and the only applicable option was "apply update from /cache" which is a read only partition without root. I had no idea there wasn't an update.zip method (from SD card). First time I've ever seen that option lacking in a stock recovery. Huh.

There are people flashing ROMs without having root access, I'm not sure if their bootloaders were unlocked or not.

Yeah there is a workaround to flash this update if you unlock your bootloaders without rooting. You can go into fastboot and then kind of "temporarily" root in order to flash the update. Seems kind of pointless though since unlocking the bootloaders breaks the warranty seal anyway. Might as well go the whole way. The process is simpler after rooting anyway.
 
I read today that Google has re-released 4.04, which probably means the OTA is coming soon (hahaha, yeah right). For us rooted users, I know we can download and flash this on our own schedule, but can somebody go through the specifics? For example:

1. I read here that you must first flash back to stock 4.02 (including radios). I have a NANDroid of the stock 4.02 immediately after unlocking and rooting, should I wipe data/dalvik before I restore this backup?

2. Can you flash this just as you would any other ROM? i.e. copy zip to SD card, wipe data/cache/dalvik and flash from CWM?

I know there's a lot of people here who know exactly how to do this, could you please share your valuable knowledge with us (relative) newbs :)

whats the point of releasing a downloadable zip, if the bootloader is locked and you cant flash it without rooting the phone!?! really not trying to void my warranty 3 months into having the phone...i guess just go to sleep and wait for the OTA UGGGGGGGHHHHHH >(
 
There is no point in everyone posting where they are, what time it is, and that they have NOT received the update.

Let's only post a status update if you actually get an update.... not that nothing has changed. OK?
 
It's 1228 central time, and I'm on Android 4.0.4! Of course I'm talking about my Xoom, which has been on this version for a couple months. LOL
 
Can someone find me an official advertisement for the Nexus that claims "updates straight from Google"? If you do let me know.....I have a grinchy plan.
