(VZW) Nexus 4.0.X Update Discussion

Anyone else think it is odd that there have been only a couple of people saying they got the OTA update if Verizon is supposedly rolling this out?

Perhaps its a statement as to how small a sampling this community actually is compared to non-connected VZW customers. But yes, I'm surprised we're not hearing more.

Edit: I think I just ninja'd Stigy!

Yeah, I have done all this, no dice for me. :p

I'd try reflashing the ROM - maybe even a dirty flash. See if that helps.

Maybe reflashing the radios. I've seen it once or twice, but a reboot usually fixes it for me.

We are just a small number of users with the GNex. I am sure we will soon see a spike in reports of receiving updates.

Hey OTD, are your signal bars gray all the time now? I flashed the DL ROM and that's what I'm getting. No more blue bars.

I was getting gray bars quite a bit when I had just the radios and not the software. Since I installed both my bars are blue just about all the time.

Nothing for me so far. I even power-cycled the phone with no luck. I guess it will come to my device when it comes. I've given up on spamming the "Check now" button.

Just an FYI, I've read in several articles that this update will more than likely not come to anyone running either of the 4.0.4 leaks, which is pretty typical. So if you are running a 4.0.4 leak and waiting for the update, you will probably not ever see it.

Trust me, I understand the bars. I'm talking about the actual dBm. In the same location I went from -109 dBm to -97 dBm after flashing. I had the latest radios before this, but maybe the software is actually doing something.

As I sit at my desk I usually get around -110dBm. I'm near the outside of the building and I don't have to move far to lose 4G altogether. I'm hoping for better reception.... if I ever get the update...

Edit: I am not rooted.

Did you do a Ti restore? Issues with gray bars is most likely the result of restoring data not supposed to be restored.

So are your gray bars/dbm better than previous ROM?

This sounds like a winner... I did do a Ti restore, my first, so very plausible I screwed something up. Do I need to reflash then? As far as data, my 3G is a lot faster today, like 3x faster. But still no 4G at my desk.

Do you know what the best way to put our phone back to 4.0.2 is so we can receive the ota? THanks

This OTA along with most everything else associated with the GNEX like the initial release fiasco is a sad mis-management.

Too bad cuz I think the phone "coulda been a contender".

what/why were you restoring from backup? Did you wipe your phone? I installed the 4.0.4 right over my 4.0.2 and didn't touch anything.

I did wipe, just because I hadn't done it, and felt going to the IMM76K Rom w/ everything was a good time to do it.

I would. This is only my advice many others will tell you differently: do not restore anything Google related (voice, gmail, streetview, maps, Google+, etc..) nor anything "system".

Awesome your 3G speeds are that much faster. I noticed a big jump in 3G speeds yesterday when I randomly tried a speedtest. Maybe, partly, more network traffic moving to 4G idk....

I believe VZW's network does vary in signal strength and speeds every minute of every day :p

Alright, I will try to reflash later when I get a chance.

Yeah, same here, and it was lunchtime, and is a Friday, a scheduled off day for most, AND is a holiday week, so the tower load was pretty low. I will check again in 30 minutes, 2pm always seems the slowest.

Honestly this OTA is pretty typical for any VZW Android update. I know it's frustrating sometimes, but knee jerk reactions don't help anything. Despite being a Nexus device, it's still VZW we're talking about. They're extremely slow to push updates, and when they do, they roll them out slowly.

Thanks..just got a little edgy here for a moment

So I read some where that you MUST be on the original 4.0.2 radios and bootloader to receive the OTA update. Is this true? I flashed the official radio/bootloader update awhile ago, so how do I get back to the original boot loader? Radios I already did.

Yep it's true. OTA updates do not update from any older version. They update only from the previous official build and nothing else. It will look for ICL53F and if it does not find it you will not get an update.

This program is good for getting you back to completely stock 4.0.2. [EASIEST ROOT/UNLOCK TOOLKIT] Wugfresh Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.3 - xda-developers

You will need your bootloader unlocked for it to get you back to stock. I do not know if the update will work if your bootloader is unlocked and you are on the stock software so you may want to re-lock your bootloader afterwards as well.

The more and more I read this, the happier I am that I flashed 4.04 last week when Google put it on their servers. I am waiting for my friend to get his OTA so we can compare build numbers and radios.....he thinks his will be different on the OTA. I have seen at least a 10db signal increase (not the bars, the signal strength in phone status) and at least a 2 hour increase in battery life. I was happy to see the wifi hotspot trick still worked!!!! I was surfing on my Galaxy Tab earlier today via that.

I was going to wait for the OTA, but frustration set in and I was having flashbacks to my Droid X days...........and this is a Nexus phone so I took the plunge clockwork modded my phone and flashed the 4.04 zip. It was well worth it and I am not looking back. If this is the way all the updates are going to go from now on...........then I am extremely happy to have this ability.

Good luck to all of you waiting on the OTA and for those of you who have had issues, I hope this fixes them. I have had a working phone since day one, so I can't imagine what it must be like to not be able to even make calls.

Do you have the path to a CWMR-flashable .zip of the vanilla 4.0.4 OTA? I'd like to compare my signal here at my desk with the app from this thread on the vanilla 4.0.4 and AOKP b37.
