What the heck is the deal with iphone users Vs Android users

Well, I like Android. I like it a lot, so much, in fact, that I have an android phone. As a matter of fact, I like it enough that I've endured hardware issues that have resulted in me being on my third Hero rather than ditching the damn thing and getting an iPhone. I've made my choice.

The difference is that I don't feel the need to rail on competing products and the people that buy them to make me feel better about that choice.

Look i own a macbook and i'm new to the whole mac but i like android as well but for the stuck up apple owners i come across and make it seem like the iphone or apple products don't have problems or is some how superior than the rest is unbelievable,it goes both ways and in the end its just an individual preference.

It seems like that is the basic idea, all the way up with both sides. If you want easy, solid, boring, trendy, then buy Apple. If you want or need a little soul, buy a PC or an Android device, and make it whatever you want. Because you can. And I guess that is the best part...... We can choose.

Or you know, we could just like the OS. Strange, right?

I'm not very good at writing exactly what I mean. You are correct, sir. We like what we like, and that is all there is to it.

I love liverwurst. My kids hate it. Does that make it wrong that I like it? I don't think so....

At least liverwurst is cheap compared to other lunch meats...

I hate this argument. How are Apple controlling what you purchase? I don't know about you, but I live in a capitalist country in which I can choose to buy whatever I want. You have a choice to buy a phone that does not have an Apple logo on the back, just as people have the choice to do so if they wish.

The only way this argument could be justified was if the iPhone was the only viable product on the market, but you, being an Android fanboy, I doubt you believe that to be the case.

Fanboyism is stupid, no matter what for. A much better way to live your life would be to be open to any technology, no matter who makes it. Just look around, do your research and choose whatever best suits your needs.

I personally try my best to keep my product choice open, which is one reason why I like Macs. I can install any operating system I want on it legally, therefore, I get the benefits of OS X, Linux, Windows, or whatever other OS I choose to install of my machine.

I personally love the iPhone, however, I really like what I've seen of the HTC Desire, which I should be getting in around a month :D

I would agree with you except for one fact.. I am on at&t and they don't have crap except the backflip..

Unless I want to pay 529$ for a nexus one..

However, the one thing that bothers me about your argument of "installing any os" erm.. I would only like to point out.. and I know this is a petty argument..

You can't legally install osx on another computer besides a mac.. so in being able to "pick" what os you want.. apple just controlled your decision.. You wanted to be able to legally use any os.. so you legally have to go with mac...

I know that is apetty gripe and most people don't care.. but, I do feel like it was over looked and worth pointing out.

Who do people that have an iPhone think there the shit, its just a phone

Going to have to agree there. For business/corporate you can't use a hackintosh. And most people don't want to bother with legal concerns either.

@ Vihzel

You pretty much sum up why I have no problem hating apple..

I can respect people's choices to buy apple.. it is their money to do what they want to with it.

However, I absolutely can not stand the fact that is so mainstream and has as many fanboys as it does.

Sure we can be vocal here on this forum.. however, lets face it.. now that android is gaining popularity.. People who have never been interested in apple have something cool..

The fact that there is now competition on the market is enough to get apple fanboys trolling..

Suffer enough trolls and you'll hate pretty much anything..

It goes both way.

My good friend slammed me for getting an iPad. My buddy is borderline android fan-boish. I have 3 Android devices and in my opinion,I'm helping the Android movement with actual purchases. Yet, because I *also* own apple products, I am an iSheep.

I got the "flash" lecture,etc.. My response was, we were promised Flash 10 years ago on mobile devices when Macromedia owned Flash. I remember the announcement in early 2000 for Pocket PC, Dreamweaver and Flash even had mobile profiles in anticipation of it. I, can, totally understand Apple's resistance to using Flash. 10 years of promises is a long time. 5-7 years of crappy Flash Lite on Windows mobile didn't help it either. My response was, I don't use Flash. I don't play Farmville, online games, and most of my video is netflix/youtube. Would it be nice to have? Sure it would be but it is not the compelling reason not to get a product. Because I got an iPad, I was automatically labelled by my good buddy as a fanboi. Do I go around evangelizing it? No. If someone ask me how I like it, I'll tell them. Just because I don't agree with the "flash" argument, I am automatically called a fanboi defending Apple. Do I care it has flash, not really. Yeah it be great but it isn't a make-it-or-break it kind of thing.

I still had reservations about Android (e.g. No Cisco VPN which is available on iPhone thru that trademark agreement since 2007). Yet, I now have 3 Android devices and I will probably get the Dell Streak as well. My interests in Android is unique because I look at it from a possible income avenue (I'd like to explore Android Software development).

Some apple owners easily dismiss arguments because it really doesn't matter to them. And because they don't agree with it, they're arrogant. Flash doesn't bother me. Removable SD slots don't bother me either. I got the biggest sdhc card for my HTC phones in the past and I personally never used more than 16GB even when I had it available. So because I don't agree w/ those advantages, I'm arrogant? Apple is smarter than what people give credit for. They probably did many focus groups and got the feedback they wanted and may have left certain features out like removable sd slots. Do I agree with Apple, no. When they removed express card in the macbook for... sd slot in the new macbook. I was kinda pissed.

I'll be getting a iPhone HD when it comes out and I'll keep my Droid Incredible along with whatever high-end Android tablet comes out in the next few months. I'd like to keep an open mind.

But to group people's preference into characterization is absurd. Sure, there are vocal minorities in all camp.

Just wanted to point out there are more arguments against ipad than just flash.

I am very well aware of those argument. I am very well aware of the netbook comparisons, the closed iTunes wall garden approach, etc... I am very cognizant to those arguments. I do see some merits to them and we can discuss in a different thread.

However, I'd still be labelled a fanboi because I don't agree with them like the netbook-cost advantage. Not everyone who buys an iPad worships Steve Jobs or bought them because it is the latest fashion accessory. People do have disposable income.

All I can say is yes there are vocal minorities in all camps..

However, at the moment.. there are a lot more iphone users...

And sadly they are a lot more vocal in general..

While the android fanbase is bigger here... In general there are more iphone fanatics at the moment..

And keep in mind that the fanboyism of apple isn't just limited to iphone, there are the mac fans and ipod touch fans as well...

I am not saying android fans are totally innocent and apple fans are totally horrible...

However, I don't think there is any denying apple's intent is there to make its customers feel like their purchases are better just because it is apple.... I mean a woman throwing a hammer with a bunch of brainwashed people around? Showing pictures of ghandi and other historical figure's implying that you will be like them if you buy apple, or even the pc vs mac series... where the ENTIRE series of commericals is about you being the "cool guy" buying the mac and being better than the "tool" in the suit.

When your commericals advertise you being a better person than someone else for buying a product... It is inevitable that when people buy these products.. they are going to want to tout them as "the best"..

I mean apple TRIES to instill a certain mentality in its consumers..

*edit*

And I will be honest about this one.. I wish I had 500$ extra to use.. I would so get an epic graphics card.. however, we can argue ipad in another thread..

But its not just cost for apple products. I have no problem dropping an excess of $500 on a tablet, but I need a reason to purchase it. A viable reason other than "its cool" or "I like touch screens".

Also, much of my disgust with apple products also stems with their policies, business ethics, and overall persona. I mean, they had the swat team storm gizmodo editor's home(ironically a pro-apple site), because he had gotten his hands on an iphone prototype, which someone had lost! People sell lost goods all them time! Is that a crime? ( I don't think so?) And, they had the swat team raid his place, break down his door, steal his computer equipment, even after he willingly returned the device. That is not a company I do not want to do business with.

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

I think selling "lost" products could fall under selling "stolen" products..

Gizmodo is not entirely innocent in the ordeal..

However, the policies apple took I would have though would be just as illegal..or more so.

Gizmodo is no saint.. but, I will probably never pick up anyones lost iphone.. Now I'm worried they will use mobile me and hunt me down and kill me or something.

Poor Ellen Degeneres actually HAD to publicly apologize to Apple for a silly JOKE that she made on her show. It involved her, not tech-savvy at all, trying to use an iPhone and she had trouble with it. She purposely pressed wrong buttons and got confused all for a laugh. Apple Corp. contacted her "people" and basically got pissed off at her for making that joke. Sounds like an ass of a company.

I had the same initial gut response but as it turns out, Gizmodo is not as innocent as they claim. There are tons of local news articles on this.

Roommate’s Tip Led Cops to iPhone Finder | Threat Level | Wired.com

The kid clearly knew what he was doing was wrong. He made several incriminating remarks and his room-mate turned him in. Cops asked why he threw away his computer at a local church and stashed stuff at his parent's house and if that was indicative of criminal behavior. He shut up real quick and started to cooperate. Why would he hide a thumbnail drive in the bushes?

Those computers have email correspondences that shows Gizmodo knew they were engaging in an illegal activity. They're using journalistic shield. For chris-sakes, Brian Chen had 3 meetings with the kid to authenticate the device. They paid him $8,000. Brian Lam wrote a quasi black-mail letter to Steve Jobs.

We don't know the full extent of the story but as things un-ravel, Gizmodo does not look like the innocent party.

I am reading this wonderful conversation on a new macbook pro. I got one the first day it came out, just like I will the evo -7am appointment btw at Best Buy. I like many other frustrated mac users, needed a new laptop, and hated apple not letting us know when it was coming out. If you folks think mac users are all fanboys, you don't read their forums.

I was so frustrated I started looking at all the better speced windows machines. I was close to buying a sleek sony, until I started to review what programs I used, what set up i liked, and what my use patterns were like on my mac. I went to the sony store to try out their sleek i5 machine. It looked nice, but it didn't have any of the programs that I have invested in, and I didn't like the setup of windows seven. Sony doesn't set their computers up with any programs like ilife or iworks. I do a lot of good and creative things on these programs for both home and work.

My network guy, who I pay to manage my office network and pc machines, tried to make fun of me one day, stating that a pc machine could run all of the same programs. I asked him to show me. It has been a year and a half and I am still waiting to see the programs. Do you know that you can pay the apple store $100 for classes on all of your software and you can come in whenever they are open for a class?

Macs are set up to use. And y mac actually runs like android in some ways. With spaces and a lot of the other features with mac, you can set up creatively, unlike the iphone. I even have bootcamp and fusion for my xp set up. I can run both windows and mac os without ever closing and rebooting. Its not perfect, but its dynamic.

With all of that said, I am not bound to mac, which is why I have never bought an iphone. I may be stuck with mac hardware, but I won't marry At&t for anybody, and what google is trying to do is even more dynamic than osx.

I find a lot of these debates much like politics, religion, ethnocentrism, etc. It seems like everybody wants to build a fort and sling mud at the "other." The truth is we all just want a nice phone that we enjoy and works well.:)

apple uses their own cables for everything which is annoying, its not open source are just a few along with what other ppl said, not customizable, limited formats for music, no 3rd party apps. After working at best buy for 2.5 years a majority of that being at customer service it shows how many people dont know how to use devices, a side note, a customer bought in an ipod touch which was stuck in boot, the geek squad supervisor deemed it un-fixable, i messed with it for about 5 minutes and had it running like new, but the main point of this...

People dont know how to use electronics so they buy something that claimed to be simple I cant count the number of ppl who said an as app wasnt working because and didnt know why, they didnt update to 3.0 because apple was charging them. So as to why ppl hate apple its a mix of their users and their product.

Yes there are stupid users on android and windows but the stupid users on these platforms still know more about technology than a standard app user.

That being said I DO have an ipod touch, which is nice...because i jail broke it and can now mulitask and do all sorts of fun things

sorry if this is a repeat

iPhone will eventually turn Android back into a pumpkin : Beatweek Magazine

This is exactly why so many people despise Apple and their fanboys. Note: Don't even bother trying to comment because the author will just delete it and ban you from commenting. This editorial is unfortunately the mentality of MANY iPhone owners.

I commented on the article anyway. :p

I wrote,

"Android is the 'Microsoft Windows' of the iPhone.

Open platform operating systems always come out on top. The iPhone is trying to compete with over 50 different Android devices now. I'm afraid that the iPhone is going the way of the Macintosh."
