Root [WIP][DEV] Custom Recovery/Bootloader unlocking Work In Progress Thread

i think you are correct....hmmm i wonder if the spectrum bootloader could work on motion.

i suggest everyone attempt this for fast easy bricks

the bootloader needs to know what address and partitions to load boot.img etc by having a bootloader for a different phone which has a completely different partition layout.

even the most unbrickable samsungs get hard bricked using a different partition table than the ones built for it.

figured as much...

Talk to neph81 I messaged him last night to see how it was done, he wrote everything himself said it was a pain in the a$$ but I just asked idk anything about this but was curious how he unlocked theirs. Someone with some more knowledge should contact him.
actually we used the unlocked bootloader from the spectrums GB. Neph pulled all partitions and determined which were the bootchain, removed the uneeded binaries, edited a few inits, used the 3.0.8 kernel tdm done for cm9. The I wrote the shell script for linux install, and death2all110 wrote the batch install for windows.

Unfortunately, no it wont work on the Motion, 2 different beasts. And the Motion dont have a previous version that was unlocked.

So like I have said numerous times, it will only get unlocked if LG puts out a unlocker for it or if the key LG used gets leaked (doubful). Other than that, bootstrap/2init/hijack is most likely the only options you all have. ;)

Sounds like a great set of dev you have there wish we had you guys :D

this thread will never need a bump...

the whole Bump process is to get a thread back on the front page of a forum...

so if this page EVER (read: it never will unless we actually unlock the bootloader and someone creates an easier to read thread for it) goes beyond the first page of the forum...then go ahead and bump it....but until then...please stop

Small bump...

You do not know how a bump works....

You seem to use this kind of bump: Urban Dictionary: bump (the 4th definition) but the attention on this thread is already here when there is a new post (that doesn't say bump).

If there is no activity on this thread for a month AND no unlocked bootloader/fully working CWM, then I would understand why you would bump it; otherwise there is no need.

tbh I follow this thread like crazy, like the instant updates and constantly checking on my phone and computer. but bumping it for the sole purpose of getting attention is wrong.

to 2GigayteSD,
It's getting kinda annoying. Be patient or start working on it like everyone else. It's not the easiest process. if you're familiar with any Android, you'll understand that it takes time to get things to work right. I know once you get your phone you're just going to install whatever is available without considering the time and effort that goes into root, recovery, and roms. A lot of testing goes into this, and whoever tests phones risks bricking it so that people like you can be free to customize. All this to say, be grateful that there is progress and be patient.

On a lighter note, i want to thank everyone that is working on this.
I'll be willing to test other methods when they come out. :D

I can clearly understand the need for a bootloader unlock and a CWM recovery, but......... And hear me out..... Is there anyway to "trick" the bootloader, say with empty data (metadata), to believe that a program that its looking for is actually there? In other words flash a custom rom but inject data to trick the bootloader, on boot, to believe that the data truly exists so that we do not run into startup errors?

I don't know if these tools can help you guys, but my friend has a friend who works at verizon who gave him some tools that are used to flash stuff in store. The are said to work for the Motion because VZW is supposedly going to get the Motion too :) Maybe you guys can bypass the bootloader with these ;)

I know of these tools and better versions of them....these are outdated. We need a MS770.DLL made for LGNPST. I have one made for LGFlash Tool.
