Root ZTE ZMAX Pro (Z981) "off topic" root discussion

I've spent countless hours attempting to root this phone, to find something. I've went on this website so many times just hoping somebody found a way. I don't understand why they worked so hard to ruin this phone.

They could have left fastboot intact and OEM locked. No carrier like Metro would have cared.

They could have released official tools to flash the recovery or even access the DFU mode of the phone. But they didn't.

It's as if they are only in for the money. I will think twice before buying one of their phones. How can you have a phone without official recovery tools? Even non-rooted phones can get messed up... What then?

There argument will be that they are focusing on security for consumer protection. They will argue that the number of root users is very small compared to the majority of the consumer base.

That's just it, most of us just come looking for a solution and don't actually work on any ourselves. I am guilty of this myself. The developer community needs to grow if we have any hope of root/ROMs/kernels being as available as in years past with Android's and OEM's increasing security. If not, then these things will be reduced to a feature on very few handsets instead of a given on the majority of handsets.

It should be mandatory that every Android device have publicly available recovery tools and software support for at least a year. Look at the ZTE Zmax Pro - no Nougat and no recovery. What a waste. This phone has great potential for the enthusiast community if they released the tools for it. It's a cheap but powerful phone that does not get the attention that it deserves.

I could care less that this is a "budget" phone... The phone is like 200 dollars unlocked. That isn't budget to me and it should be properly maintained. Companies need to learn that they need to release good products and support them instead of going for a quick cash grab. Since the attitude towards consumers is so rotten we get no recovery tools, we get no real updates. We don't get any kind of support.

At the same time that's your opinion. They have released several updates, just not the update to nougat that you want. Also they are under no obligation to make the device easy for you to root, that's a misconception as if the company is doing something wrong because they haven't made the device easy enough for you to root. There focus is on safety and security not root. And you say they haven't released recovery tools but they don't need to the device has a warranty that they will honor should anything legitimately go wrong with it.

T-Mobile would have cared however

What update other than b12 that was pulled honestly what update

That depends on which carrier your referring to? As well as the fact that an update is currently in the works by ZTE as we speak. As your aware that it's in beta testing presumably so that they can make sure they get it right. They don't seem to be an unreasonable company to me considering there going through all the trouble of beta testing an update for a budget phone that MetroPCS is now offering for free if you port your number over.

WTH is going on in root forum lol.... Somebody tattled to Slug about a member uttering the words DFU and mode? This is beyond comical ;)

I haven't yet seen a forum shut down for topic and insult cleanup as many times as this one.

Hey @messi2050.. is it possible that the flashing of your recovery worked but the file structure of the recovery is missing something? Just theorizing what we might be overlooking.. have you tried recreating the TWRP recovery or cm recovery?

It's a new bootloader lock, need ZTE signature to flash recoveries

I just got accepted into the beta I'll keep everybody updated but I will not I repeat will not break my NDA over root access mesi could you PM me id like to work with you as well given I'll have the test software
When you asked messi to work with you because you have the test firmware you broke your non disclosure agreement.

Who can try it?

C'mon guys.."off-topic" does NOT mean disrespectful, baiting, or posts that incite...several posts removed.

Let's keep things polite, civil, and contributory to this forum, device, and community, please.

Please review our Site Rules/Guidelines where our Admin notes:

General Conduct: Admittedly, I'm probably a little more anal about this topic than some. I have very little tolerance for uncalled for disrespect. With that said.. read on. Please treat other members with respect. These forums were put together for Android fans to come together and help each other, collaborate and discuss in a positive way; not bash on someone because you don't like their idea, or because they don't share the same views as you. We are big into the free speech idea here. So you're free to say what you think; but do it in a constructive, positive, 'add to the conversation' kinda way; not the condescending 'I don't like what you're saying so you suck' kinda way. We encourage mature debates; discourage childish arguments.

Thanks!
