Root ZTE ZMAX Pro (Z981) "off topic" root discussion

Owned a G2 returned for a G3... Resolution was "Over-sharpened" for the G3.. returned and got a Note 4...

Loved it.. for almost 2 years..

Then it failed me.. ( I think it was my fault using a $1.00 charging cable and $1.00 car charger from the $ store.. :( )
I had Root... I had Rom's... I had that Super Amoled Screen.. and I F'ed it up..
Won't come on unless it spends time in the freezer....
That's when I got the Stylo 2 for 12 days.. then returned it for this Zmax Pro..
I got sooooo lucky and got a great one... with no issues.. and honestly since I found CM Launcher, I switching between that ( Themes a Plenty ) and Nova Prime and I'm cool if root does not come.. It won't happen before sometime in 2017 anyway.. and I got my Zmax Pro new for only $39.99+ tax.. so even though I have contributed to Messi to buy a phone, I really am at the stage that the Zmax Pro can get root or not.. for me it's still a great phone better everything than the Stylo 2 Plus for sure if you got a properly built one.
Stop these side discussions please. PM each other if y'all so like to know more of each other's opinions. Thanks from not only me but everyone having to see this.

It is a nice thing. I've been trying everything I can to find a way. I want root so I can change my resolution to 4k ,correct the color on the screen, and to make a swap partition to extend my ram.
Let me know once you figure out how to change the resolution of a 1080p display to 4k. I want to magically quadruple the number of pixels contained in the LCD panel on mine as well. Hell, maybe I can turn my TV into 4k hahahahaha!!

i mean my tv accepts 1080p even though is a 1366*768 screen, although thats Different.

A little off topic here, but to be fair, it is possible to make android render at 4k on a 1080p screen, but the thing is, there wouldn't be any difference, due to the lack of pixels in the screen, therefore making it pointless, but still possible.

Who the hell would want 4K rez on a 6 inch screen. Let ME know if dirty cow works its magic, perhaps I can get mine to manufacture amphetamines

Well, it has been done, and on a smaller screen size. 5.5 inch screen.

No it's not. A 1080p display is exactly that.... 1920 x 1080 with no over-scanning, under-scanning, or reinterpreting the signal to a lower resolution. You can't view 4K content at 4K resolution unless the display supports 4K.

The Sony Z5 Premium has a 4K display... it's all in the pixel count, physical size means nothing

Anyone having connectivity issues? I will have full bars and still can't refresh a web page or carry out a search. A reboot sets things right, but highly annoying.

What should I research first?

@AndroidCowboy513 are you asking about:

1. The process / mechanics of rooting a device using a known rooting method?

- or -

2. Finding / developing the exploits that lead to being able to root a device?

(there's actually a third option which is the stuff that Chainfire (and CCMT) do to create/support the UPDATE-SuperSU-v##.zip package that folks currently use to flash / install root on their devices--I can't even begin to tell you what that would entail other than the deep and varied knowledge and experience of many, many facets of Linux and Android)

(edit: and there's yet a fourth option (and probably many others) which is learning and writing root apps/utilities...)

If it's the first (#1), then that is often very device and Android version dependent. Older devices and versions of Android simply require that you make the /system partition read-write, copy/install the su binary in the /system/bin (or /system/xbin) folder, and install the SuperUser.apk. Recent/newer versions of Android do not allow (or honor) the setuid/suid behavior on /system binaries anymore which led Chainfire to develop the daemonsu process; subsequent changes by Google to set SELinux to enforcing mode led Chainfire to develop systemless root and mostly requiring devices with unlocked bootloaders so the boot.img can be updated/replaced.

There's a plethora of topics you'd need/want to become familiar even just for this: bootloader unlocking, custom recoveries (TWRP, etc.), fastboot, adb, Nandroid backups, etc.--again, knowing exactly which ones will be depending on what the actual rooting method is.

If its the second (#2), well that often takes someone that can research or recognize that a vulnerability exists and then think of ways to usefully exploit that vulnerability. Not sure I can quantify the insights and experience that this requires...

Anyway, there's a ton of sites (and yes, Google searches) that might aid you:

Read. Read. Read.

Check out this thread. http://androidforums.com/threads/lose-network-frequently.1056985/

Some of us have had this issue since it came out.

That's why I'm using my Zmax pro as a table shim. Because losing internet is one thing. Missing phone calls, messages, emails and all other important toasties for hours is unacceptable.

ZTE USA customer service sucks just as bad as their devices. I tried reaching out to them yesterday for warranty repair, blew me off.

Over the weekend I ported my $hit over to T-Mobile and got free LG Stylos, so not as pressing now. I can wait, just aggravating spending so much time for repair. Not that my Zmax will work on TMO without buying unlock... These idiots keep dicking me around y'all might have a free device in case Messi blows up the first one

I basically want to ask if your file verifier app can work on a brick alcatel device and how?

Well, my File Verifier for Android (AFV) app, does several things (calculates MD5, SHA1, etc. checksums, can do Nandroid backup verification (i.e., checks their MD5 sums)) but I'm guessing you're primarily asking about the "Verify Jar-type File" (or "jarsigner -v" type of verification), correct?

Not exactly sure how you might use any app or utility on a bricked device? (other than a low-level one built and provided by the manufacturer).

Can you elaborate a little more, please?

You can check our thread for our brick phone for more info:

I see one poster already linked it to you too. I see you posting in there too. Oh well do we have hope to unbrick our device then? Big country is the only one working to unbrick our device coz his device is bricked too. I really don't need it anymore so does he. I just want to fix it. I have galaxy on5 gathering dust after less than a month of having it. And is currently using zmaxpro.

Most of us brick our device using Alcatel's own update (OTA). I did use king root on my device though so maybe that's why it brick it. the verity check I think is the culprit in our brick device it is saying signature error when we try the program on that thread.

Hi guys. A bit of an aside, why is there a tone for "WirelessChargingStarted"? Is this a feature we don't yet know to exist in this phone?

Just looked on my sound options didn't see that option. But you can get wireless charging supposedly on this phone if you buy the adapter someone link it on this forum. I also ask on ZTE about it. They said it is safe. I ask coz I was interested but change my mind.

I can see it in ES File Explorer and in MiXplorer. I wonder if it's just a standard file included with Android, regardless of wireless charging capability. I've got a Qi charging pad at home, when I'm off work later I'll put my ZMP on it for funsies, though I don't expect anything to happen.
