Root ZTE ZMAX Pro (Z981) root discussion

I can compile custom kernel , cm or even anything that can come to your mind but the question will stay the same how to flash it , fastboot was removed (not hidden) even if king root can give root access on this device it will be a temporary root that get lost on reboot, i have dealt with phones from at&t , metro , verizon and t-mobile , metro does not lock their phones or their bootloader (at least for the phones i dealt with) so i think it was zte decision to remove fastboot which is the only way to unlock the bootloader.

I put the device in download mode and plugged it in after messing with my core prime in odin. However I unplugged the galaxy core prime and never closed odin. When I plugged the device in it was recognized. Here's a pic

this, my friend allegedly got root access but it reboots after 20 seconds or so however if this is true I believe it's enough to change selinux. and provide permanent privilege.

how do you get that brief moment of root?

I'm thinking there was no fastboot/bootloader access on my ZTE obsidian (which ran 5.1.1) either, however KingRoot would give permanent root. The issue was that any OTA would then send the phone into bootloops.

So now I'm guessing our only hope is for ZTE to enable fastboot?

The adb command is "adb reboot fastboot" then when your in fastboot mode "fastboot oem unlock". We are far past that. Those days are over unless you buy an unlocked device online that is independent of a carrier.

Not true in the case I'm remembering. We had to zero out or change from 0 to1 or something to that extent to even get fastboot to work.

Messi already answered that it won't work, as lg had a hidden fastboot, ours is removed...

To me, it sounds as though root may not happen without fastboot, so we can get bootloader unlocked... But I have been wrong before...

Hey, just a thought--and I have indeed been keeping up with this thread, but do not remember if this has been covered before--have you guys used the -i <vendor id> switch when trying to use fastboot? I.e.,

fastboot -i 0x19D2 devices​

For that to work, we'd have to be able to get to fastboot mode I believe. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Yeah, I'm sure you're right--wasn't sure if it was just non-responsive / non-communicative or what and couldn't tell what mode/state the device was in.

This is an (fastboot SSL) unofficial OTA/patches zip that's flashed through stock recovery of Zte Axon that allows fastboot oem unlock. Can anyone break it down to see if we can use anything?

Yes you are correct. It was mentioned to far to read back in the post. I think fastboot is there, just disabled to the average user and I'll put money on it the devs can enable it for personal use. There's a possibility we can do with the right information. I also read somewhere patch files can be made on linux following a guide. I have no clue the limit of the type of patch files that one can make. Another theory is to see if we can compare the partition structure of the axon 7 to zmax pro. If they come back identical, we might be able to get away with modifying the fastboot patch from axon to work on zmax pro if signing won't be an issue.

There's an Official and Unofficial bootloader unlock for the Zte Axon. Google it. We may be able to use both versions to maybe patch or bypass
