Brain Fart of the Day

I had trouble with my earbuds while mowing today. They disconnected from my phone two or three times while I was mowing my first lawn. It finally dawned on me that I had forgotten to turn off my truck. When I got near the truck my phone connected to my running truck which broke the connection to my buds. Obviously, I don't wear my hearing aids while mowing. I have to remember to turn the truck off because I can't hear if it's running without my aids.

How do I prevent Gemini from speaking aloud when I ask it a verbal question?

But I don't want to have to type it in. I want to ask it a question, which I do in a very quiet voice up to the microphone even in public and it reads that just fine. I don't then want it to start reading/squawking out the response in the loud intrusive way it does, making me have to poke at buttons to shut it up. I just can't find a simple option to stop it speaking at all.
turn down the volume.

Considering Changing to Motorola Moto G Power 2025

Since I rely on the S Pen, I need a stylus phone alternative to the Galaxy S Ultra series. Samsung gives us fewer and fewer reasons to upgrade each year while charging more and more. The Moto G Stylus (2025) is highly-rated and regarded: the 2026 version is expected in April or May. It has plenty of stylus features, a headphone jack, a microSD slot and 68W charging. The stylus isn't Bluetooth capable, but the S24 Ultra was the last Galaxy device with that feature so that's a non-issue.

Anybody have this problem with latest Google Play Services?

I found this to be typical with updates of Google apps.

An app like Google Play Services, which is connected to most everything in one way or another, is a constant drain on resources and a privacy nightmare.

That particular app started me on the de-Google quest for my devices.

It is excellent that you know how to get rid of the updates, because most people never even get that far.

Personally, I get rid of it before I ever use the device.

If this is not on your path, then I would suggest doing what you have already done and use it that way until the next update hopefully fixes the issue.

Depending upon what apps you use, some won't care but others may nag you to update the crAPP.

Another solution is to go to an alternative appstore, such as Uptodown (my recommendation for this) and find the newest update for Google Play Services that works correctly on your device.

NCAA Men's Basketball 2026

The first week of the NCAA men's tournament is in the books. Round one saw a number of upsets and round two had it's share as well. There are sixteen teams left and after this week's play there will be four teams left. Out of the 26.6 million brackets filled out at ESPN, nobody has picked all the games correctly again this year. That's how difficult they are to predict. I have picked 38 of the first 48 games right which puts me one game up in my family group and I'm in 1,506,910th place at ESPN 🤣 It's all fun stuff.

Whatever happened to salami?

Salami; cotto salami, Swiss cheese with mustard on rye bread. My favorite sandwich treat. ( Behind a cheeseburger but that's another thread.)
Sardines; never saw boneless, skinless, headless and tailless sardines before.
¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯
Twinkies; hate them. Always have.

Y'all need to try chicken Gizzards.
ive had gizzards and livers
dont like the gizzards, that texture is just gross

ive had livers two different ways, really good and really bad

not worth the 50/50 chance for me

and sardines are just incredible
i dont know why Ocean Prince quit making the ones i liked so much

and i have tried many different kinds and almost never had any come to what i had for the time they made those

imagine sardines that didnt taste fishy

Micro USB to USB C adapter that preserves OTG functionality?

Puppykickr, if you're not sure that your Motorola is OTG compatible, download one of the OTG checker apps, from the play store.

I used one on one of my old ones once and it confirmed mine. There's a lot there and I can't remember which one I used. Try one or three to confirm and then delete.
i just use CPU Info from F-droid.
it tells you whatever you need to know about an individual device.

Problem opening links in K9 Mail

I've now discovered something that's left me even more baffled. I've found that if I reply to my daughter's email in Thunderbird or in K9 the link in the copy it places in the sent folder is converted to clickable. It also works if I forward the email to myself - the forwarded message has a clickable link (see before and after screenshots below). Not only that but the email addresses in the To and From fields (that I've blanked in the screenshots) are converted to mailto: links.

Contrary to what I've said earlier it now appears that this behaviour is not restricted to K9 - both it and Thunderbird seem to be behaving in exactly the same way.

Make what you can of that o_O. Once again any insights gratefully received.

Public disgrace er storage

They should be challenged. It is not only hugely inconvenient for a person to have to obtain another instrument of payment such as a money order or cashier's check. There is also the added charge for said instrument, which may go up to several dollars. Considering how much hot water this corporation is in, how many customers they have lost, how badly they mistreat their own employees, etc., they should tread carefully. They might actually be in danger of going out of business.
believe me when i say that in the long run you are much better off buying a shipping container and using that instead of a storage facility

also keep in mind that you cant take any of your stuff with you when you pass anyway

this is coming from a screwup that has lost most everything over and over
