HOW :*(

Only games? And do these games have anything in common (like using some common account system)? Any games in particular?

Games are just apps, so it would be very strange indeed if all games were affected, no other apps, and there is nothing in common between the games you have. So I have to assume there is some common factor between the apps that are afffected, but we'll need more information from you to have any hope of figuring it out.

(Remember that we only know what you tell us, not what you know).

Locking text-to-speech settings?

Tonight the text-to-speech is acting up even more than yesterday. I changed to a different default voice to get away from the pitch and speed isuses and in the middle of listening to a book it just switched back to the other voice that had sounded bad and wouldn't change from that one no matter which voice I downloaded/selected. I eventually uninstalled Google T-T-S updates and then reinstalled them, kept trying repeatedly and finally managed to reset the voice to a different one. Hope it stays put. I think I will try clearing out all the app data and reset the voice if this happens again.

I think there's something going on with TTS on Android 8 but I can't find any news about it online. My phone is fully up-to-date.

app info

I d/l an app called color notes. I wrote several notes on the app. I moved the app to the external storage, I then lost the sd card ( I guess it got corrupted somehow). Is there a way to retrieve the info on the app? I re-d/l the app, but it's blank.
Thanks
it depends. i am not familiar with the app, if it has the ability to back things up on its own server, then you are good. but i think most apps like that will save the data someplace on the phone or on the sd card.

sorry, but i think you have lost those notes for good.

Bitmap Rendering Wrong Size - Game Engine

I solved it.

So for some reason the "inScaled" option for BitmapFactory is set to true by default.

I just had to create and change the options with this code inside the Background class.

Java:
BitmapFactory.Options options = new BitmapFactory.Options();
options.inScaled = false;

Then add the option to the bitmap shown bellow

Code:
bitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(context.getResources(), R.drawable.maintest, options);

memory card

Nice find, @Dannydet!

Welcome to Android Forums, retired47!

This article reviews the Idol 3 and includes this info in its specs:

- microSD card slot (up to 128GB)

Buying any reputable brand's microSD card, up to 128GB, from a reputable source should be fine. Beware of fakes and knockoffs! Just stick with a known brand and buy it from a reputable merchant.

"Android still a toxic hellstew"

I assume that would make Oreo etc. null and void.
As @Hadron noted, continuing to use Oreo shouldn't be a problem.

My current phone is only four months old--Motorola sent me a new one when my still-under-warranty, Moto Z² Force had a problem. Motorola had previously announced that the Z² -would- get updated to Pie, then backtracked, only giving it to phones with one carrier (Verizon?). I have no intention of ditching a brand-new phone any time soon! Pie or no Pie, I'll keep this phone until I'm good and ready to replace it. :D

Play Store Dark Mode only on older device.

Any recent experiences?

My daily for 3 months has been a Nokia 7 Plus on Android 9. I saw my older Moto G4 on Android 7.0 now has dark mode by default, but any instructions found only apply to Google Play Games which does have a dark mode setting.

I guess it hasn't rolled out to my Nokia yet, though I would assume the Play Store version would be the same (I don't have the Moto with me atm).

Text-to-speech settings changing on their own?

I use Text-to-Speech a lot on my phone and tonight I found the settings were suddenly changed on their own and were very difficult to get back to what I had before. The "pitch" (highness or lowness of the voice) had changed, and perhaps the speech rate, too.

It took a long time to try to get the voice settings back to where they were (the slide button hides behind my finger when pressing and moving it so I can't even tell if I am getting it to move--you don't want to move it very much, only a tiny bit as a small slide makes a big change.)

If there was a way to lock these settings I would lock it down so this doesn't happen again.

malware

The only way to remove malware that's got into the system is to reflash the phone with a new set of stock firmware (download from Sammobile.com). But you need to recover your account first (or trash it and make a new one - either way you should contact Google if it's been hijacked).

Finger print reader issue

From the start it seemed like the reader wasn't very good, it just didn't have the sensitivity I thought it should and then I compounded the problem by installing the Whitestone Dome glass screen protector.

Re-registered prints several times in various positions etc and it didn't help then the Sep 1 update came out and it improved a little, I also set the sensitivity to max in system settings. It worked better but I still had to press fairly hard for it to go thru.

Well today I dropped the phone and cracked the screen protector so I decided to change it out with the 2nd dome protector I got and that's when I discovered why the print reader was off. While peeling the cracked dome protector off I noticed an air bubble on the screen itself :thinking: I'm trying to figure out how the hell air got under the screen and felt the edge of the phone with my fingernail.

Damn phone came with a hard plastic screen protector under the peel away sheet. Now the reader works like it should. Doh!
every note came with a preinstalled protector. you arent the first to put white stone over it.
