No wifi calling on colorOS V11

So T-mobile has to set up wifi calling for every different make and model of android phone? That sounds like a crazy system! OK, thanks for your help.
No that is not how MVNO carriers, like Tello, work. You still need to contact someone at Tello to be sure you actually have WiFi Calling enabled in your account. Tello is your carrier, T-Mobile is just the carrier network provider that Tello is contracted with. As far as T-Mobile is concerned, you don't exist.
And it's not so much that Tello, your carrier, supports WiFi Calling nor that your phone can support WiFi Calling but if your account with Tello allows you to use WiFi Calling. It's in their hands so let them deal with this. You might need to new SIM card from them, or it might be a matter where you need to disable 5G in your phone's Settings menu. Your phone only supports up to 4G/LTE.

Is it possible to sort photos from your photo picker, or is there an app you can install?

Which photo manager app are you using? The stock Gallery app? The Google Photos app? They all should have some basic sort and display option so you can adjust how your photos are shown -- i.e. oldest or newest first, large or small thumbnails, etc. The thing is each app will have a different user interface so you might need to peruse through the app's Settings/Config/Options menu or there might be an icon in a upper or lower menu bar.

One of the most versatile and user configurable photo managers I've encountered is Simple Mobile Tools Gallery Pro app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.gallery.pro
Go through the app's Settings menu to take advantage of all its optimization and customization options.

.Nomedia with F-Stop photo viewer

Keep in mind that a .nomedia file only applies to multimedia apps so it's only about image and video content. So yeah, if you don't want the F-Stop Gallery app, the stock Gallery app, the Google Photos app, the VLC app, or whatever media app to not automatically scan, index, and display any of the content of a specific folder than you just need to add a .nomedia file.

But the Google Backup and Restore service that's a part of Android, that relates to the content of the file system, and a .nomedia file is irrelevant. Unless you intentionally created that PHP folder inside a Google app directory, odds are it's not included in your online Google account backup.

Help Android Auto on Xiaomi - Low resolution image casting

[SOLVED]
@everyone:

I found a way to "get around" the problem. Using the "official" AAWireless dongle ( https://www.aawireless.io/ ), so not using the cabled USB connection, i had no more resolution problems.

I know that buying something else isn't a real solution, but at least this is a way to use AA in a good quality.

Actually there are a lot of cheaper dongles than this on Amazon, but i didn't try them, so don't know if they will resolve aswell the problem.

Hope this will help anyone that was in my situation.

How to get value from TextField

This could be happening because the app that you used to pick the image (in this case, Google Photos) is returning a different URI for the image than the one that was originally used to save the image on the device.

As for the reason for the change, it's possible that the app is using a different storage provider or a different scheme for representing the URI of the image.

As for whether this URI change is causing the cropping to fail, it's hard to say without more information. It's possible that the cropping app is unable to handle the URI that is being passed to it, or that there is some other issue with the image or the device that is causing the cropping to fail.

It's also possible that there is some difference between the AVDs that you are using that is causing the app to behave differently. For example, there may be a difference in the versions of the Android operating system, or in the configuration of the AVDs.

To troubleshoot this issue, you may want to try the following:

  1. Log the URIs of the images on both AVDs to see if there are any differences.

  2. Try cropping a different image on both AVDs to see if the issue is specific to a particular image or if it occurs with all images.

  3. Check the logs for any error messages or other clues that might help explain why the cropping is failing.

  4. Try using a different cropping app to see if the issue is specific to the app that you are currently using.

Excel app won't open spreadsheets

I also had such a problem. I noticed that in general, all Microsoft products do not work particularly well on smartphones. Maybe the problem is that you are using an un-purchased version? Personally, I downloaded the hacked version from microsoft office professional plus 2021 product key and maybe you downloaded your version of the program from an unverified site? then an incorrect repack of the application may cause crashes. Until I found a good key, I had it. Therefore, be careful and choose only proven sites. It is best to buy original applications on the official website.

RatingBar

To change the number of stars displayed in a RatingBar in an Android app, you can use the numStars attribute in the layout XML file. Here's an example of how you can do this:

Code:
<RatingBar
    android:id="@+id/rating_bar"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:numStars="5"
    android:stepSize="1.0"
    android:rating="3.5"
    android:isIndicator="false" />

Make sure that you have set the numStars attribute to the desired number of stars. In this example, the RatingBar will display 5 stars.

If the numStars attribute is not working as expected in your app, there may be other issues that you need to troubleshoot. Here are a few things you can try:

  1. Make sure that you are using the correct layout file. If you have multiple layout files for different screen sizes or orientations, make sure that you are using the correct one.

  2. Check for any errors in your layout XML file. You can use the "Design" tab in Android Studio to check for any layout errors.

  3. Make sure that you have correctly implemented the RatingBar in your app. For example, you may need to set the android:id attribute and retrieve the RatingBar in your code using FindViewById.

  4. Check for any errors in your code that may be affecting the RatingBar. You can use the "Logcat" view in Android Studio to see any error messages that may be relevant.

Error Gradle in Android Studio

The error message you provided suggests that there was a problem resolving the dependencies for your project during the build process. This can happen for a variety of reasons, such as:

  • A dependency that is specified in your build file (e.g. build.gradle) could not be found in the specified repository.
  • There could be a version conflict between different dependencies in your project.
  • There could be a problem with the repository itself, such as it being unavailable or unresponsive.
To troubleshoot this issue, you can try the following steps:

  1. Check your build file (e.g. build.gradle) to make sure that all dependencies are correctly specified and that there are no syntax errors.

  2. Try running ./gradlew clean from the command line to clean your project, and then try building again.

  3. Make sure that you have a stable internet connection, as the build process may require downloading dependencies from remote repositories.

  4. If you are using any external libraries or dependencies, try removing them and see if the build works without them. You can then re-add them one by one to see if any of them are causing the issue.

  5. If none of the above steps helped, you can try invalidating the cache and restarting Android Studio. To do this, go to File > Invalidate Caches / Restart.

Failed to transform library

You have an issue "library-0.14.0.aar" in your Android project.

The build is unable to resolve or find this dependency, which is causing several tasks to fail.

There are a few possible reasons for this issue:

  1. The repository or location where the dependency is stored may be down or unavailable. In this case, you may want to try again later or check with the repository maintainer to see if there are any known issues.

  2. The dependency may have been removed or replaced in the repository. In this case, you may need to update your project to use a different version of the dependency or find an alternative solution.

  3. There may be a problem with your build configuration or your project's dependencies section. You may want to double-check that the dependency is listed correctly in your build.gradle file and that all of your dependencies are up-to-date.

Chasing origin of error A resource failed to call close

hi
To help you troubleshoot the issue you are experiencing, it might be helpful to try the following steps:

  1. Review the code around line 30 in the file App.java, as this is where the Strict Mode violation is being triggered. This is likely the code that is responsible for acquiring the resource that is being leaked.

  2. Look for any places in your code where you might be opening resources, such as streams or database connections, and make sure that you are properly closing them when you are finished with them.

  3. If you are unable to find the cause of the leak in your code, you could try enabling more verbose logging in Strict Mode by setting the penaltyLog flag in the VmPolicy.Builder object. This will cause Strict Mode to print a more detailed log message when a violation occurs, which might provide more clues about the cause of the leak.

  4. Another option might be to try running your app in a debugger and setting a breakpoint at line 30 in App.java. This will allow you to pause the app at the point where the leak is occurring, and inspect the state of the app to see if you can find any clues about the cause of the leak.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the suggestions.
Line 30 is just the line that sets strict mode policy up so that I can capture the event. The issue still occur if I remove this:

StrictMode.setVmPolicy(new StrictMode.VmPolicy.Builder()
.detectLeakedClosableObjects()
.penaltyListener( this.getMainExecutor(), ( Violation v) -> {
v.fillInStackTrace();
v.printStackTrace();
} )

I will try the other suggestions to

Thinking about the future (phones, plans, Android in general)

Try using Samsung's Smart Switch utility to transfer her old S10 user account data to the new S22. It's a pretty reliable tool to backup/transfer data, especially between two Samsung phones, but be sure to read through the exclusions for third-party data that might not be included (i.e. WhatsApp, which has its own backup service in the WhatsApp app.)

Hope your retirement into a RV life is as awesome as it sounds to be.

Thanks! I used SmartSwitch to move the accounts from our older Galaxies to the 10s - and have already backed up my 10 to get ready.

We've been doing this full-time RV lifestyle for 7-1/2 years and love it. When asked about our exit plan, we tell folks we're going to do it until we have to find a rest area to pull over and die... and watch their faces. (Of course, we do more serious planning for real.)

Using insecure protocols with repositories

you are trying to use an insecure protocol (HTTP) to access a Maven repository in your Gradle build. This is causing a problem because, as the error message states, using insecure protocols with repositories is unsupported.

To fix this issue, you will need to either:

  1. Switch to a secure protocol (such as HTTPS) when accessing the repository. This will require updating the repository URL in your build configuration to use HTTPS instead of HTTP.

  2. Allow insecure protocols to be used with repositories by adding the following line to your build configuration:
Code:
repositories {
    maven {
        url "http://localhost/"
        allowInsecureProtocols()
    }
}

Note that allowing insecure protocols to be used with repositories is generally not recommended, as it can pose a security risk. It is generally safer to switch to a secure protocol (such as HTTPS) whenever possible.

Help required Mi4 Fitness Band

just curious as to how inconsistent are they? are they even close? and you are only measuring sleep duration? i would only trust the one that you are supposed to use with the watch, the MI Fit app ....but that is me.

Frequently the results are not at all close, the 3 apps may show sleep duration is
twice the number of hours such as 3 hrs in one app and 6 hrs or even more in another. Usually Notify has the lowest figure, Zepp the highest, Master in the middle --- but even that is not consistent. I do not think this is a minor disparity and if it is regarded as 'acceptable it renders the Band much less useful than expected. It will not be worth buying again.

I am looking for an Android Studio Client/Server USB Sample/Example Code

hi
Here's a simple example of how to set up a client-server communication between an Android device and a computer running Ubuntu using a USB connection:

  1. On the computer running Ubuntu, create a new Java project and add the following code to create a server that listens for incoming connections on a specific port:
Code:
import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.InputStreamReader;
import java.io.PrintWriter;
import java.net.ServerSocket;
import java.net.Socket;

public class Server {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        try {
            ServerSocket serverSocket = new ServerSocket(8000);
            System.out.println("Server started on port 8000");
            Socket clientSocket = serverSocket.accept();
            System.out.println("Client connected");
            BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(clientSocket.getInputStream()));
            PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(clientSocket.getOutputStream(), true);
            String inputLine;
            while ((inputLine = in.readLine()) != null) {
                System.out.println("Received message: " + inputLine);
                out.println("Server received message: " + inputLine);
            }
        } catch (Exception e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
    }
}

  1. On the Android device, create a new project in Android Studio and add the following code to create a client that connects to the server and sends a message:
Code:
import android.os.AsyncTask;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.EditText;
import android.widget.TextView;

import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.InputStreamReader;
import java.io.PrintWriter;
import java.net.Socket;

public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {
    private TextView mTextView;
    private EditText mEditText;

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
        mTextView = findViewById(R.id.text_view);
        mEditText = findViewById(R.id.edit_text);
    }

    public void sendMessage(View view) {
        String message = mEditText.getText().toString();
        new SendMessageTask().execute(message);
    }

    private class SendMessageTask extends AsyncTask<String, Void, String> {
        @Override
        protected String doInBackground(String... strings) {
            try {
                String message = strings[0];
                Socket socket = new Socket("192.168.42.129", 8000);
                PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(socket.getOutputStream(), true);
                BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(socket.getInputStream()));
                out.println(message);
                String response = in.readLine();
                return response;
            } catch (Exception e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
                return null;
            }
        }
