There are literally hundreds of thousands of active exploits and compromises floating around the Internet and a lot of them are targeted at the Android platform now that it's so prevalent. But no matter what kind of PR statements the anti-virus/anti-malware providers may make, there is no such thing as any one of them that's 100% effective. At best you should expect a maybe 70% level of actual protection. Plus you have to take into account while some exploits are specific to Android, most focus on our online services -- our phones get more exposure when we're interacting with online, but it's our data that's in our various online sites that are always exposed (we have to go on faith that whichever social media sites we use are keeping our accounts safely locked down).
So pick any A/V app you like, and it may or may not actually protect you, there are hundreds of variable involved. (Odds are you should stick with the more popular ones, they'll have more active development and support and that's really, really important because exploits and malware are always evolving and getting more sophisticated.) When you're so lackadaisical on how you use your phone when interacting with the Internet, A/V utilities can't protect you from yourself.

I tried to do a hard reset but was not successfuil. I went to "Settings" as suggested & found a "list all apps" choice wherein I found the offending App & successfully ;deleted it which solved the problem. Thanks to all who provided advice it was all duly noted..

Well any previous postings I made were based on the postings you had made so anything before the revelation you don't have a good WiFi no mobile data connection takes priority. At this point, I'd suggest you have somebody who is tech savvy to look into the matter as setting up something like syncing contacts should NOT be such an arduous task. Diagnosing anything over an online help forum with only some necessary info is a problem when there are relevant details in question as opposed to just a quick hands-on evaluation of what is and isn't working that might be the source of the problem -- i.e. at this point it still needs to be determined if your WiFi connection is working (are other apps and services working out OK now?); when viewing your Google Contacts list is all your data showing properly (phone numbers in the phone number boxes, email addresses in the email address boxes, etc.); are other Google services syncing or is it just Contacts?

Oh as for what you're perceiving to be a contradiction, it's not a matter where you need a lot of bandwidth to sync something like Contacts listings, it's just text data. A 1Mbps connection is quite adequate. In contrast, watching high-res streaming video does require a good amount of bandwidth, typically 25Mbps or more. So you do need a stable, reliable online connection for anything as fundamental as contact syncing, but it's also conditional because different tasks require very different amounts of online access speed.

I have received messages, lets say at 1pm and the last seen for that contact is 8am (WA didn't updated his last seen on my main phone) yet on my secondary phone he will be online (your situation). Another weird situation is that I will appear online at 3pm but my phone has been with the screen off since noon but this can be also due to WA web or WA desktop, which I use both on my computer (one for each phone), and when you close your browser or app, it takes time to update the online status.

Also, I don't think WA updates the info instantly for every user.
