NEW: Advanced Tagging, Media Gallery, Resource Manager

Example: Samsung Galaxy S8 Tags (Admin)

galaxy-s8-tags.png

I made "Galaxy S8" a synonym of "Samsung Galaxy S8" so anything tagged "Galaxy S8" automatically becomes "Samsung Galaxy S8"

Should I leave the "Galaxy S8" variants as is or also merge them into "Samsung Galaxy S8"?

It doesn't matter much for the S8 at this point... but picking a general rule of thumb for these different variants would be helpful. I'm inclined to leave them be... (and hope they're also tagged with the main device?)?

What’s this notification icon? (Pixel 7)

Please, I’ve never seen this before. It is an uppercase M with a dot on top on the right side. Thank you!
we get this question almost everyday. and as @Hadron said, there are just too many apps with notification icons. unless it is something like facebook or youtube, these kind of questions never really get answered. most of just throw out guesses. and like @Hadron suggested, you are better off just asking.

Help 3 Phone Call Problems, Same Cause?

.....Most of the responses I've gotten in here are basic troubleshooting measures or catch-all fixes(which I appreciate). I was hoping someone would've been able to see clues in my posts that would've told them them the specific cause.....

Totally understand. I think you would need a Lineage expert to look through the log. XDA would be the place to check out for that.

QOTD: Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone

I stepped out my front door leaving the comfort zone of my AC into the extreme heat and humidity. I immediately learned it was going to be a miserable day to mow lawns. :) Seriously, the older I get the less comfort zone I try to hide in. I've reached a point where I'm not intimidated, afraid of failure, embarrassed, etc. Those are the things that I consider my comfort zone. As an old man, nobody expects a lot from me, and I can easily surpass that. Just don't ask me to do any public speaking. I suffer greatly from dyslexia and affluent speech I was not gifted with. I used to hide that fact in my comfort zone. Nowadays I just laugh at myself and go on down the road.

Group texts

Group texts will behave differently according to how your message app is set up (and possibly how theirs is set up), and worse when sending across platforms. There are 2 issues here:

1) Your Android SMS/MMS app will have a setting for whether to use SMS or MMS for group chats. These behave differently: with SMS you send separate messages to each person, and each replies to you separately. It's not really a group chat. MMS behaves the way you want (everyone received every message), but in some countries/provider MMS are expensive so it may be that not everyone sets their app to use them for groups (in the UK for example SMS have been effectively free for almost everyone for most of the century but MMS remain crazy expensive. I get the impression that in the US SMS were charged for for much longer but there was less difference between MMS and SMS). In any case, if people have their apps set differently you can get different behaviour.

2) iPhone use iMessage. Between iPhones that works similarly to WhatsApp etc: advanced features (e.g. you can see whether a message has been read, when someone is typing a reply), higher quality media than MMS supports, etc. But iMessage is Apple-only (a choice Apple made because they felt it offered a competitive advantage - or "lock in" some some would call it). So when you have a group chat that crosses platforms the iPhones will send MMS or SMS to the Android users (presumably they have a setting to determine which), and so those people end up as "separate" from the iMessage users.

It sounds like it was the second that was your main issue. In which case nothing will have changed: iMessage is still Apple-only, so will treat Android users differently.

Will Google Messages resolve it? To be honest, I doubt it. The new(ish) thing in Google Messages is RCS, a more advanced messaging protocol that behaves a bit like iMessage. Unfortunately it also behaves like iMessage in that it only works between Android devices (because Apple refuse to support it, presumably for the same reason they didn't make iMessage cross-platform). So presumably iMessage users will still send either SMS or MMS to Android phones, and Google Messages will still send either SMS or MMS to iPhone users. In fact since some Android users may not be using RCS it could actually make things more complicated (I'm one of them: I know nobody who uses it, and it doesn't work between platforms, so I've never felt it was worth enabling personally). But I certainly don't see how it will solve the problem of different behaviour between platforms.

So, that all sounds very pessimistic. What's the solution?

It might be that if everyone's apps fell back to MMS when their preferred protocol wasn't available it would all work, but if it didn't then I don't have much confidence that it will now (I'm British, nobody I know is willing to spend £0.50/message, so I've never been involved in an MMS group chat, and hence can't say from experience). Everyone I know solves this by using a third party app such as WhatsApp (or Signal, or whatever you prefer): it requires everyone to have installed the same app, but once they have it will work the same whatever phone they have, and with none of the hassle you get from different people's apps, especially on different platforms, behaving in different ways. If Apple opened up iMessage, or allowed RCS support on their phones, then we'd have a built-in cross-platform solution, but as long as they refuse to support that then you will get the best experience by using a third party system (I'm not being biassed here: I do use Apple devices as well as Android, but both of those options were rejected by Apple, not by anyone else, so I'm afraid the lack of a good native solution is their choice).

Full screen Android Auto screen mirroring with/without root

Yes, it is possible to screen mirror your phone and have it full screen. However, the ability to do so may depend on the specific phone model and the mirroring app you use.

If the screen2auto app you mentioned is not displaying the full screen on your car's infotainment system, you can try using other screen mirroring apps.

Additionally, some custom ROMs or rooting methods may provide more control over screen mirroring, but keep in mind that rooting may void your phone's warranty and can have security risks.

Someone had mentioned that it wont let me because of teh aspect ratio of my phone. The Z fold 4 inner screen aspect ratio is 6:5. The Pixel 6a is 20:9. The Pixel aspect ratio would be perfect for what I am asking right?

Help Help loading apk on Android Phone

In modern Android versions (the last several years) this option allows you to give one or more apps the permission to install apps (in older versions it was just a single switch, and once set any app with that capability could do the install). My personal feeling is that you should never allow a browser to do this: I've seen examples of ads or scripts on websites that tell the browser to download an apk, so giving the browser the ability to actually install it as well always seems like a way of making your phone as vulnerable as possible. So I personally give one of my file managers the ability to trigger installs and no other app (apart from F-droid, which is an app store itself). And if you want to increase security, do it in stages: download the apk, then give your file manager (or other app of choice) the ability to install, use that to install the apk, then remove that permission from the app you just used to perform the installation (equivalent in the old way of enabling install from unknown sources, doing the install, then disabling it).

Mi 11T issue with Android Auto

Hey guys

Hope someone can help me. I just got a new Navpro multimedia for my car, and it uses tlink5 to connect with android auto. I was able to use it properly cabled and wireless with other mobiles, but had no luck with my MI 11t. It keeps trying to connect on my mobile, and it stays like this. I already reset Android auto, reinstalled all updates, tried to remove and add Bluetooth connection several times with no luck. I'm on MIUI 14.
Sometimes it shows in my mobile that it's connected, but I still got nothing on the multimedia screen, only "connecting"...

I'm having the same problem with the wired connection =/

Do you have any idea what is happening, and what should I do?
Thanks so much for the help =)

Samsung Galaxy GT i5510M

AOSP is the base of Android, the open source bit. It will exist as long as Android does.

Of course individual apps within it get very little development, but that doesn't matter since you can always find a better app for any function. But just give me the base OS without the crud and clutter that manufacturers add (to varying degrees) and I'll do the rest.

New SixDots game- ArmaRunner

Hi there, it has been a while ago. I’ve received a lot of feedback for this game and therefore updated a lot of aspects:
  • Score indicator added
  • Physics of animal interactions have been refined, so you’ll never get stuck again
  • You can now head-bump animals into the air
  • More enemies added: gatling cow and stingy hedgehogs
  • Better build-up in difficulty to support a wider range of gamers
  • Death animation added
  • GUI has been restructured
Todo:
The game and engine is now also prepared to support multiple storylines and levels, but that is a feature for the upcoming update… Game development just takes a lot of time. 😆

Remi 7 Rooting Android 10 Miui11

here is the guide you want:

please read it before attempting to root. if you have any questions, you can post them here. i would also if you have the time to read each post in that thread. it might show if there are any problems and also solutions to any rooting issues. main thing is to read first before going in head first........good luck.

Older model Android phone to root

What about a Pixel 6 or 6a?? I am in the USA if that makes a difference.
Assuming your Galaxy S18 reference is just a typo, if you're actually thinking of something like a Galaxy S8 that is a better option than your daily usage Z Fold. I'd suggest you avoid one of those one-button rooting apps like Kingo and instead opt for a process like TWRP/Magisk:
It's only a bit more involved but results in a cleaner, less obtrusive quasi-root. Since you're apparently willing to educate yourself on the rooting process, getting comfortable using the Odin utility will give you better sense about your phone's internal functionality.

You might also want to be sure you download and save the appropriate Samsung stock ROM for that particular model of S8 (or for whichever phone you intend to buy for this project). Just in case a problem occurs while rooting the phone or later after you do root it, having a stock ROM on hand allows you to flash the stock ROM to restore the phone into fully functional condition again. (.... and then root it again to start over).
