I think it means the assistant button.

On my device, if I tap and hold the center utility button (the circle) the default action is that it will activate Google Assistant.

I have mine set instead to activate Greenify.

not with all of the samsung devices i have owned previously. note 4, note 5, s7 edge, note 8, and now the note 10+ all worked with no issues.

Funny enough, I just had this problem with someone else's phone.

It is a low end LG.

Everything worked, but we could not successfully install any apps.

I checked the device cache, and there was over 2GB in it, so I cleared that.

No change as for installing apps, although the device acted a bit better.

So after multiple checks and trials, I did what I should have done first- I restarted the phone.

Yup.
As soon as it rebooted it was ready to install whatever we wanted.

You would need to reflash the original firmware for the phone. Which still may not work

I suggest you turn off any automatic functions then use file explorer to upload photos. Manual control is always more precise that automatic.

That thread has an answer for old version of Android, and it looks like a fix for iphone. Did you try the iphone steps near end of thread? If so, then PLEASE start a new thread. Reference that thread if it helps, but as that is an answered thread, it is not going to get as much visibility as an unanswered one.

This problem seems to have gone away now on my Pixel 3a, possibly since the last firmware update, so fingers crossed it is now fixed!

Everything I've highlighted I believe are from Cheetah Mobile. Ideally should remove anything by them, because of ads, data mining, and phoning home your stuff to their servers in Beijing. Although "smart manager", which is actually a version of Cheetah Mobile Clean Master, is a system app that Samsung included on some of their phones at the time, like Galaxy S5 and S6.

The others I guess maybe various libraries and caches used by some apps.

You could root, install TWRP and then install a custom rom with a newer Android version. It would either fix the issues or point to a different issue such as a hardware issue.

That's not good, and could very well be corrupted or damaged firmware, or some other hardware problem with the phone.

Thing is, the phone needs to be stable before you can do any data transfer or recovery to a computer. I have no real ideas now, and re-flashing firmware will erase the phone.
