Offical Gingerbread coming Friday to the X.

i do believe it happened with froyo metfanant

Froyo? well that was a whole different beast...everyone was originally under the impression that Google/Moto were going to surprise everyone and the X was going to be the first phone to ship with Froyo...obviously didn't happen...

but even with Froyo im pretty sure they always had the release date as "Summer 2010." There was just a lot of assuming that it would come earlier than it did...

im glad your very well informed, and you have the distinct memory, i was just stating to hold on to what vzw puts out with a grain of salt, how many times has vzw said we will get something, and that date rolls around its not out.. IE: New phone (Charge), or new software(GB,Froyo), i think when i had the eris vzw was pushing out the froyo, and then it was stopped.

and froyo was different, yes so is gb, but they are all new os versions. you missed my point in my post, is that you cannot rely on something that a company states. we may get GB friday. we may get it next friday, we may get it 2 weeks from friday, because i have not looked at when they said it will be released. but when you start hearing people say they got the OTA on friday then they kept their word, if its a week from friday, thats a delay. im not trying to be defensive, as i do believe you are quite intelligent and know what your saying, but we cannot just hold onto vzw's word on alot of things. much like moto, do you think they will change their stance on bootloaders?? maybe they will, maybe they wont. we dont know til it happens

Oh, yay! Another "Gingerbread Is Coming Soon" thread!

Is this in any way connected with The Rapture? I know that was predicted for 1994, but was cancelled due to a mathematical error.

i think its more accurate that you should take what internet news blogs say with a grain of salt...

because at least when it comes to the X Moto/VZW have stuck to their word COMPLETELY as far as im concerned...what happens is that blogs try to pretend that they have some sort of inside information and start posting "news" to drum up website hits...

of course things are different...but the REAL difference here is that this is THE FIRST time that either Moto or VZW has put ANYTHING official out regarding the GB update for the X...there have been no delays, or broken promises from VZW or Moto regarding the X...

even the fact that VZW rejected a GB build a few months ago is not a delay...there was never a release date for them to miss...and frankly we should have never known about that "news" we just happen to have an inside source in TBH...

much like moto, do you think they will change their stance on bootloaders?? maybe they will, maybe they wont. we dont know til it happens

but this goes right along with what im saying...Moto never said they would be changing their stance...they never even IMPLIED they would be changing their stance...

but because there was a lot of people complaining...and they came out and said they would look into the issue....people have completely jumped to conclusions...

I agree with you that to an extent you need to take what companies say with a grain of salt...but more importantly we have to hear what the companies are ACTUALLY saying...and not what we WANT to hear...

its the blog "news" sites that we should be more skeptical of...

Hopefully they do something about the incredibly long boot up time that the leaked versions of GB have.

really?...i dont think takes very long to boot at all...just for HAHA's i just turned off my phone and used a stop watch to time how long it boots...i counted from the moment the red M logo appears till i see the lock screen

1 min 10 sec
1 min 2 sec
1 min 4 sec

are you seeing different behavior?...i know the initial boot (especially on a deodexed ROM) can take forever...but even normal booting takes a long time for you??

Oh, Yay! Another post from you that says the exact same thing. Do you really have to post this in every thread mentioning Gingerbread.

Don't like it, don't have to read it. But some of us do want to know when 2.3 is landing.

Compared to Froyo it is quite a bit longer. If I remember correctly it only took about 30 second for Froyo to boot up.

well im not gonna SBF back to Froyo to test it out :p ;) but maybe someone still running Froyo could chime in...

i guess maybe i just don't consider ~1min to be "incredibly long"

How long of a time are you seeing? I was having issues with the leaks, but then I removed TiKL and it solved the problem. There was a driver issue that was causing it to take forever to boot.

Well, at least the "when" options of the wild speculating can end. Onwards to new wild rumors and conspiracy theories! :p

If it this is THE sign of the end of the world, the next OS wouldn't be labeled "Ice Cream Sandwich". Google would be talking about 2.4 being "Angel Food Cake". :p

Stock Froyo (non-rooted): 35 seconds following your method (counting from when Motorola's logo appears to when the lock screen appears)

So, we're all going to get along in here and be nice to each other, right? ;)

We'll see. :D

frankly if he is not very quick with this stuff then he SHOULD take the OTA...if he ever has any problems with the phone and has to take it to a VZW store, or deal with CS...they are going to have him update...they are only going to support the latest version of the software...

also...GB is just plain better than Froyo...and there should be just about zero learning curve moving from Froyo to GB

I know that for most this is true, but my dad is the type that doesn't like ANY change. He doesn't want to learn about gingerbread. He doesn't care about the improvements when all he does is e mail.

He would never call Verizon, he calls me.

Quick question that may already be answered:

Do i have to participate in the upgrade? My phone is working fine I have it rooted and have the hacked Netflix app. I would hate to get back to square one on this and be SOL with Netflix and have no wireless tethering.

i still think its better to do the update...the improvements are totally worth it...but really the way to guaruntee it doesn't update would be to root and remove/rename one of the pre-installed pieces of Froyo...when the update checks the current OS it will fail

you dont have to but GB makes Froyo look like a child made it

There was talk a while back saying that you had to be completely stock before the update would install. I have 2 DXs and both are rooted and have Madden and Blockbuster removed.

#1: Will I have to sbf back to virgin Froyo in order to take the update?

#2: Is there a way to root this GB update?

#3: If I choose not to update will Big Red know it?
