***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

This is exactly how I feel, except I've been loyal to HTC. Sense is all I really know and while my wife can't understand this, I figure you all can...there's a bit of reservation in me, maybe fear even, but I'm having faith that this Nexus will be all it is supposed to be and all will be good. Up until a short while ago I was getting the Vigor, but reading this thread coupled with the idea that maybe a change in company will TRULY make the phone feel NEW, I'm going with the Nexus. Nervous about it, but doing it.

I had an SCH-i760 way back in the day, and now have an HTC. I'm interested to see how far things have gone with Samsung since the i760 days. Probably going to be like going from an abicus to a super computer. :D

Amen, I have loved Sense, with the same two phones as you. But I think I am ready for something different as well.

I'm holding out till the 3rd and the (hopefully Vigor- screw "rezounds") release event... I tried a Vanilla ROM on my Dinc and after a day and half it STILL didn't feel right.

I hoping I can hold out till their both in stores and I can go play with them...

* this "waiting" was almost easier last time with the Dinc. there was only ONE phone, you pre-ordered (I did) or camped out at a store. This in-decision is killing me :/

There are plenty of third party apps and widgets in the market that will give you that Sense feel without actually having to have Sense on your phone.

I have a lot of them! :D
I think at this point it's just what I'm used to. I can accept change though (I think)

Never tried a source-built ROM?

Android without all the bloat is great. When I got my Incredible, I was very skeptical and used Sense for a few months even after rooting. Eventually, I did a nandroid and gave CM6 a whirl.

After that, I knew two things:
1. I don't want Sense, Blur, Touchwiz, or any crap on my phone.
2. I originally wanted a Nexus One and they axed any chance of it on Verizon because the "Incredible was just about the same thing." No, no it's not. Just... no.

MIUI ROMs are nice too, they just do not fit my personal taste.

Even if the hardware isn't as good as something that comes out in three months, it will still get updates faster (or at all) and be more responsive without all the bloat weighing it down.

The updates and no bloat are what put me squarely in the Nexus arena.

I have tried many of the rom's for my DInc and am only running a sense one right now because the graphics make me smile (I actually reboot my phone about once a day on purpose). I have removed lots and lots of sense widgets and such anyway so I'm thinking I won't really miss it. I'll miss the familiarity.

Yeah, I had the Omnia, swore by it (after flashing away Touchwiz that is). Hated Touchwiz, but loved the hardware, and with a flashed rom, Windows Mobile was actually not half bad. This is my chance to go back to Samsung, and I am gonna take it.

My last experience with Samsung was the Samsung Glyde...also known as the Samsung Worst-Phone-Ever-Made. That dang touch screen would never work! I got so frustrated with it that I threw it against a wall to break it.

Did you (break it)? My son threw my Omnia into a wall, bent the phone, still worked.

I don't know about that. My wife's Samsung Rogue was pretty darn sucky. It could give the Glyde a run for it's money in Worst-Phone-Ever. :D

The Verizon LTE version will be 32GB only. Other parts of the world currently only have the 16GB available for pre-order. No idea on 32GB release.

This will be a killer for me, not gonna spend the type of money they want for GSM version off contract with only 16gig...I use close to 16gig now on my N1 without HD video...I could understand giving people the option, but just the 16gig version???? WTF...why, last time I looked 16gig microsd cards are the same size as 32gig microsd cards, so don't tell me it has something to do with the added size to LTE version. Don't give me the cloud stuff either, some of us don't live in areas with great connections...Sorry, wanted to vent, really frustrated about only hearing 16gig gsm model pre-orders. Also, getting really tired of seeing all the advertisement google is putting out on the internet, but not letting people know if they can even buy the thing!!!

I'm not going to lie, when you turn your HTC phone on and see the clock with the active weather animation it still gets me going. Is there any widget or app or whatever that I can add to the nexus to mimic that weather animation? Thanks in advance.

Go to this site:
https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/GenericSearch.cfm?calledFromFrame=N&wwparam=1319636413

And fill in search criteria. Final Action Date is the day the info is released, so if you want to check what has gone out today, just type in todays date in both fields. You can type Samsung in the applicant name field to get only samsung products. Also under the application process, I usually pick Original Grant, as the others are just updates to already passed products.

Hey, thanks a lot for that. Key info right there. I always ended up with a quagmire of a list, got confused and backed out scratching my head. Appreciate the tips.

That plus the resolution (MPx and/or sensor capacity) will either seal or kill the Gnex deal for me. I have about 750 family derp pictures due to shutter lag on my OG, love the phone, hate the camera on it.
Good picture but slow shutter = Fail
Zero lag shutter with poor autofocus = Fail

Zero lag shutter with good pictures = Win.

I demand the last one. I don't expect SLR quality, just let me take a pic when I need it and not be blurry. I have to admit, this is one area the iPhone4 and 4S got right.

That is just some 3rd person trying to get some extra money. Those prices 99.9% of the time do not translate to us prices. The sgs2 was close in price to that and when it came to the US it was $500 off contract.

And I'd bet my Corvette is much faster than you Mustang, and it turns. And I also bet there's some fully tubbed Honda Civic dragster that's faster than both. :D

So it never ends.

Careful, he could be an NHRA funny car driver... That is one "mustang" that IS faster than a vette.

Not to spark another pentile debate, but is this really all we can expect from an HD screen? I'm very disappointed that I'm going to have to "settle"...I'd rather have crappy battery life and an awesome screen. Apparently an awesome screen just doesn't exist these days unless it's on an iPhone. I don't know...I may be looking at the HTC Vigor more closely when these things finally hit stores. My OG spoiled me!

HeHeHe. So true.

I've got 733 hp to the road, 725 ft-lbs tq, and racing suspension in my '07 Shelby GT500. I think we need to set up a race. :D

Back on topic: Someone mentioned the vzw GNex will be 32GB version only. Do we have confirmation on that?

After having a droid x for over a year with a HORRIBLE camera, a quality camera is a big draw for me. i'm almost definitely going to be getting the GNex. Regardless of camera performance. But i am reallllly hoping for a good camera in it. i'm not picky about the camera, as long as the pictures look clear in most lighting environments then i'm fine. my DX only takes good pictures outside, in good light.

Yep,
Beautiful Widgets. Well worth the purchase from the Android Marketplace, which I believe was $1.82 at the exchange rate.

Not only is it nicer than the Sense clock with tons more customization, you can even turn on the full screen weather animations.

:) I always found it amusing especially on the older versions of Android. People sit there complaining about "Sense" then turn around and spend like TWO days downloading and configuring various application to emulate everything Sense does by default :P
