***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Finished my epic journey on a heartbreaking note.

I stopped at HHGregg near Abbey's Verizon store. I spoke with the salesman there. He indicated they are in stock, but he can't sell them due to a hold from Verizon. He took my number and said if anything changes prior to the 12th he'll call me.

I returned to my part of Cincinnati (eastern suburbs) and went back to the mall I was at earlier to visit Radio Shack. The salesman there said they have them in stock but the Verizon rep came in yesterday and told them not to sell them until Sunday. I asked if I come back Sunday if he will sell me one. He said gladly. We'll see.

I then went to the Best Buy around the corner from my home. As I walked in I was greeted by a familiar face at Best Buy Mobile. My brother in law's sister works there and I didn't know it. There were about 6 employees hanging out at Best Buy Mobile when I walked up. I was thinking "oh no, this isn't going to be good". After asking to buy the Galaxy Nexus she said no problem. She opened up the cabinet behind their desk and inside were at least 50 of the Galaxy Nexus. I was woozy. She opened it up, got out a SIM card and inserted it. She said she needed to call Verizon to get my upgrade bumped up from 12/28 to today. I thought oh no here we go. Verizon did the bump, fortunately she didn't tell them what the bump was for. She activated my phone and I asked if I could begin uploading my accounts and get it set up as she rang me up. She said no problem. I went all the way through setup and was delighted. She scanned the phone and it didn't take. She punched in the bar code and it didn't take. I knew I was doomed. She asked her coworkers in Best Buy Mobile and NONE of them could get it to ring up. She called a manager. I knew that was it. He pointed out an internal memo stating they are not to acknowledge ANY knowledge of the phone nor disclose any stock. He apologized to me. I accepted graciously. I then did a factory reset of the phone. She called Verizon and returned my phone to my Dinc. I disagree with the sentiment "Tis better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all".

Here are some pics of my ordeal and I have a video of her returning it. Not sure I'll post the video just yet.

Yeah a premium retailer is what I went to when they said whenever they receive stock, I can buy one. If I hear anything, you know this will be the first place I report to.

Yeah. I tend to have a feeling VZW is somehow controlling shipments to them so we are going to have to find one where VZW failed to get shipments stopped. Guessing FEDEX is better at this yay/nay deliver stuff than UPS and that's part of the reason they are coming in via fedex rather than UPS. VZW can not stop full retail sales from a third party very easily and really because of C-Block rules isn't supposed kill such devices through ESN/IMEI bans and such.

It's not deserving of ridicule. IMO I think its just surprising that it would show up there before here. I mean Google's headquarters is in the US you would just think that we would have it ya know.

And correct me if I'm way off mark but Africa just doesn't strike me of a country that would be at the front lines of new technology... but that's just my opinion.

Sushi, you did quote say "it was ridiculous". If you use the logic that the Google's headquarters is in the United States then your logic would suggest that it is equally ridiculous for the phone to be in Canada, UK, China, etc. Why single out Africa?

Africa was not at the front lines of technology for this phone. To my knowledge it came to the UK first.

Do you have any other reasoning why you singled out Africa as a ridiculous place to have a Galaxy Nexus before the US?

It strikes me as more of a continent than anything.

Sorry :)

Long time lurker, first time poster. I’ve been clinging to this thread the past month as I endure the interminable wait for the Galaxy Nexus. I’m rocking a BB Storm (piece of junk) and am more than ready to upgrade.

Just wanted to chime in with regards to all the posters talking about “corporate greed” and Verizon’s failure to serve its customers. A corporation exists ONLY to serve its stakeholders. Stakeholders include individuals holder ownership equity (stockholders, investors, etc), employees, partner organizations, and business customers (this would be OEMS and non-corporate retailers). Everything Verizon will do is to serve these interests. Now, serving your consumer base is also essential to satisfying your stakeholders, but it is more of a means to an end than primary directive.

This in mind, Verizon doesn’t owe us anything, unless we hold stock. And then our goal is for them to make as much money as possible. If they do that by forcing R-phones down everyone’s throats, so be it. Look at their decisions through this prism: it helps to understand what they are doing.

Also, we are NOT the majority. My family, friends, co-workers have never heard of the Nexus. But they’ve all heard of the Razr. And the I-Phone for that matter. We are a tiny (albeit vocal) niche of their customer base. We do not get factored into volume/profit equations.

I could say a lot more, but TLDR sucks. That said, I will be adding #vzwnexusfail to my tweets ;)

just did, ill post it from time to time during today

I hope i don't get one of these phones you guys are activating and then de-activating...

I want a brand NEW clean one......HaHa (but not "HaHa" if it really happens!!!!!)

What is the point of this whole meme they are supposed to deny existence of stock of the phone existing?? Why force employees and 3rd party retailers to LIE?? Come on VZW, this is just SO unethical.

So now that I'm back from my fruitless adventure, I have to ask, has anyone else been more successful than me and actually got to walk out the door with the Nexus in hand?

How does one set things up to AUTOMATICALLY re-tweet anything with a particular hash tag? ;) Just...umm...curious...yeah, that's all.

Okay, you're wrong. ;)

Africa isn't a country - it's the second-largest and second most populated continent on the planet. Algeria and South Africa, as examples, have thriving and competitive mobile communications networks.

You'll have to forgive us Americans, our President thinks Hawaii is "Asia".

Hiyoooooooooooooooooo:rolleyes::D

I don't like where this is going, I would think it should end now ;)

Well it looks like I may have ruffled a few hairs here with this so we will just drop it now I guess it was just my honest opinion. Sorry if I offended anyone. I was just honestly surprised.

I wish I had the strength to just stop obsessing over this phone, stalking this site and allowing myself to get high and low over it.

If nothing else, I've learned a great deal about myself these last two plus months and I'm not sure I love what I see. :)

I know what you're implying and this forum is not the place for that discussion. If you have a problem with what you think he might have possibly meant then report it. Otherwise drop it.
