(VZW) Nexus 4.0.X Update Discussion

No Ed, a lot of people are fed up with Verizon holding up updates that everyone else already has without giving us any reason for the delay. It's the politics of business, a power trip, whatever you want to call it... but it seems to be a systemic problem with Verizon.

Recall how many release dates came and went for the Nexus before they FINALLY released it!

I think THAT is why so many people are willing to jump ship to another carrier that may be a little more focused on supporting their devices in a timely manner.

Those of us who have no other carrier options to speak of get to sit back and fume.

LOL...it sounds ridiculous when you say it like that. I think it has more to do with 5 months of hype followed by 5 months of disappointment. But you have a point. I just want VZW to make it right and put me in a device that works where I live. Their customer service is the reason I'm tempted to bail.
 
OK, seriously! When the hell is this update coming to our Verizon phones? The rumor was that it was gonna come out yesterday. Then, yesterday, the rumor was changed to today. What the hell?

I wish we knew. There is no sign it is soon though, other than new rumored dates are getting closer and closer together.
 
It's sickening. I wonder if there is a class-action lawsuit in here somewhere.

They are promising us the latest and greatest OS, but they haven't provided it.
 
Just remember that if you want it that badly you can always root and ROM the Nexus. There are stock 4.0.4 ROMs out there for people wanting no customization at all or highly customized ROMs for those looking to tinker around.

This whole post is starting to crack me up. Its sounding exactly like the Droid X forums a year ago when an update was "rumored" to be out. Loads of talk about class action law suits there to.

I would like the official OTA update as well. I will give it till June 1st and then I am going to do it myself. I am already unlocked.....so that is my deadline. I was hoping for one more official update before I started playing with ROMs and kernals, so I could have the latest official build to go back to when...not if....I mess things up lol.

Please provide a reference to this promise, from sammy or vzw. As far as major release, you have the latest and greatest. All this fuss is over a rumor about a minor point release. If it is that important to you, root and flash away. The latest release is and has been readily available.

To even mention a class action is laughable...
 
Why should other people on other carriers have a later release? We don't have it, therefore we don't have the latest and the greatest - they do!

Fingers crossed! I downloaded the zip file mentioned. I assume you have to root to install it? My old OGDroid was nice, just copy the zip file to the root folder, reboot to the boot menu and you could update it that way.
 
The Nexus software update guide on the VZW support site has not been updated from December. I'm not holding my breath yet.
 
I wonder if Google made any changes to 4.0.4 or is it what we already have? I wonder if they included the new radios?

Verizon Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 update available for download now

We reported a rumor on Monday that Verizon was preparing a long, long overdue Android 4.0.4 update for the Galaxy Nexus, which has been officially stuck on 4.0.2 since it’s release. Obviously the OTA update didn’t happen yesterday, but Google seems to be just as tired of the run-around as we are, because they’ve posted the relevant update file on their own servers. Stock Galaxy Nexus users, get it now, before Verizon decides that up-to-date software isn’t appropriate.

This isn’t a full ROM, just the update file for the 4.0.2 software on Verizon’s LTE flavor of the Galaxy Nexus. In order to run the IMM76K update you’ll need to be on the stock software – any other release or the various leaked versions of 4.0.4 will not work (root and custom recoveries are OK). Just reboot into recovery mode and flash the update.
Reports are coming in that the update is live on Verizon’s servers as well, so you could try the good old manual update through your system settings. Of course most carriers send out these updates in waves, so don’t be surprised if you get a null response. In either method you’ll be running the current version of Android for the first time in over six months - congratulations! Changes include a few interface tweaks (especially on the power menu), bug fixes and new radios.
 
I keep reading that 4.0.4 doesn't fix the one-way audio issue. Please, please, PLEASE let Verizon push the (supposed/rumored/etc.) Samsung update along with 4.0.4!!

Copy the zip file to the root of your SD partition.

Boot into recovery (Press and hold vol up, vol down and power until recovery screen appears)

use vol up/dn to highlght "install zip from sd card" and select the 4.0.4 update file.

When the installation completes reboot your phone.
