Root Network connection issues

-Mike-

Android Enthusiast
My LTE randomly loses network connection. Last week I had to call sprint and have the phone re-activated. I have to give props to ocnbrze for working with me that night for (easily) 3+ hours to no avail. (thanks again player ;)) I keep having the issue and its happening more frequently. Im rooted s-on. Was running CM10 then switched to Jellybomb hoping a sense rom would possibly fix any phone related issues. Ive wiped cache, d-cache, updated prl and profile. I even restored a nandroid back up of my stock phone. I dont know what else to do. Im worried that I'll have to take the phone into sprint and they'll give me crap since I'm rooted.

Any suggestions? Am I the only lucky guy with this issue?

A side note...... I bought 2 LTE's and one was DOA and had to be sent back and exchanged for an S3. I loved my og Evo and wanted to stick with the newer version. Im also concerned that there was a bad run or something.

not sure if it is a hardware issue or software. have you tried to update prl and profile? if that does not work then it might be hardware and thus you might have to take it in.

I'm having the same issue. My data connection has always been shotty, but I always chalked it up to Sprint working on their Network Vision. LTE hasn't officially rolled out in my area yet (SF Bay Area), but I've randomly gotten LTE on a couple of occasions.

Today my GF got a Galaxy Note 2 (convinced her to switch to Sprint from Verizon). She has been getting steady 4G all night while I've been stuck on 3G (and down to 1X a couple of times). It's definitely frustrating when I know there is 4G goodness floating in the air and my phone isn't invited to the party.

EDIT: currently running CM10 stable build

I have a rooted note 2 running jellybomb and it runs flawlessly. My wife's stock s3 is fine too. We have 2 LTE towers within a mile or two of us. I had the same issues with my og EVO. She had an Epic 4G and she would get 4G every now and then. I could be swinging on the tower and never get it. Now with the newer devices and upgraded service it hasn't got much better.

If I reboot while, I get an initial 4G LTE connection and its FAST. Then it dies off pretty quickly. I wish I would have kept the OG.

Can I ask when you bought your LTE?

I bought mine at launch (literally the first shipment that Best Buy got), so I'm wondering if there is a bad batch.

I'm having similar issues to you. When I first boot, I show 4G but it doesn't last more than 30 seconds or so. Then, I'll randomly lock on again, get happy only to have it go away in a few moments.

It's frustrating because my girlfriend is sitting right next to me, and her Note 2 is locked onto 4G signal continuously all night long. I always thought the spotty connection was network related, until she just got this Note 2 a couple of nights ago. Both of us are on the exact same network, but are experiencing completely different speeds.

I've tried a few things:
1) Switch to Sense ROM, update profile and PRL then switched back. No difference.
2) Switched over to a Sense ROM (MeanROM), but was not able to lock into a 4G signal for the three hours I ran it (I had the Note 2 right next to me to verify LTE signal was around).
3) Did a factory reset through CM10.

None of these things worked. It doesn't seem to be software related so far.

Anyway, let me know if you find anything.

Take the phone in and ask them to test the radios. Tell them its rooted and not to mess with the software on the device :)

Alternatively, flash the stock ROM and take it in to get the radio test

Think I'm going to try this tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion.

far.

I got suckered into buying getting mine a few weeks ago. I have a business account and a rep called me and offered me all this stuff for next to nothing. I bit on her offer and off we went....

My phone has been pretty stable lately. I have only had to reboot once or twice recently in order to reconnect to the network. I havent had any phone issues until this evening. I was getting some echo/feedback. Im wondering if being at a shopping center surrounded by flourecent lighting caused that.?.?.?

I was doing some reading over at xda-forums and found some folks with the same problem. There were a few responses recommending RUU updates. I found file download from Capt. Throwback over there. I'm not too sure what it is, or how to use it but, here's the link...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34279365&postcount=5096

So I went into bootloader screen and it says:

Hboot- 1.15
Radio- 1.05.11.0606

It also shows a date of Jun 18, 2012. I assume that was the 'born on' date.

I'm seeing that most other people are reporting radio numbers like 1.12. I dont know if thats the issue (1.05 vs 1.12) or what.

ruu stands for rom upgrade utility and it is how your phones get updates. there is usually two forms of it. one is an .exe file that you run on your pc and the other is flashed through the bootloader. if you do run it, it will give you the stock rom and recovery. you will need to install the twrp recovery after running the ruu.

if you want to you can just flash the radios instead.
they are found here:
http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...LE-Jewel-Radio-Collection&p=220556&viewfull=1

Yeah, one of the updates included the new radios and a kernel to match. If you update your radios, you want to be on a software base of 2.13 (build number just below your baseband radio number in settings, about).
Ok. I'll double check that before proceeding. thnx!

Ok, confirmed I'm on build 2.13.651.1

How the heck do I proceed with all this radio fixin'?

Just read where it says "s-off required". I'm s-ON but unlocked. Am I still eligible?

Ok, what you'll need to do is relock your bootloader first, then run a RUU for the latest build.

This will unroot you, and flash the new radios and hboot, etc. Then you'll need to unlock your bootloader again and flash a recovery etc.

Or you could run one of the full S-off methods from the guide, and flash the firmware package from the bootloader.

Either way will work, just depends on what you want to get into. :)

Im on hboot 1.15. Im a 'novice' with all this. How hard will it be to get s-off and does being s-off affect anything within the phone and how it operates? That might sound stupid but I just want to make sure that being s-off isnt going to require any maintenance from me (or anymore than s-on). Im also running a computer with vista pro. Will this be compatible with the required s-off software? I guess one benifit that I would like from s-off is the ease of flashing roms/kernels together. Are there any youtube guide on getting s-off?

There is no maintenance that I am aware of for S off versus S on. Just easier to flash roms and kernels and firmware.

The guide you would need to read and follow is referenced in this thread, http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...g-dummies-guide-lazypanda-racun-unlocked.html

It is the Dirty Racun method. You would have to follow the directions on their site as that is how they want it. I have read they have an irc channel for 'live' help with issues.

The guide says you would have to make a "livecd' of Ubuntu to do it. I have read comments that figuring out what the commands should actually be was a bit challenging, as well. I guess that is where the irc comes in.

Definitely read up on all of it and see if it is something you would feel comfortable trying.

I've done some quick looking around and cant seem to figure out how to re-lock bootloader. can anyone show me the light, please?

Once you're at hboot 1.15 or above, your only choices for firmware updates are to get s-off or go the ruu route.

I recommend getting s-off and get all of the pain out of the way at once. I doubt that this will be the last time that radio firmware will update and it makes rom installation easier.

S-off simply means that encrypted signature security is turned off, meaning, you can then flash anything directly without jumping through a bunch of hoops.

can i do it on a Vista Pro 32 bit laptop without having to do the live cd? i dont even know what a live cd or ubuntu is.

i have a feeling this is going to end badly....... lol

The thought of having to do this truley makes me nervous. im gonna need a couple xanax be i try this.....

The new s-off methods only work in Linux.

In the other thread, we have a pointer to the Ubuntu Linux download and they say how to run from cd. You can also do it from a USB stick.

You use either to boot into Linux instead of Windows.

See if you can get comfortable with that part first, no shame if you can't. You'll want to play with that and get group advice here first.

Then, it's a matter of downloading and following poor instructions. Sorry, that's on them, but there are folks to help.

OK, Just read through the instructions. It doesnt seem like theres that many command steps. For starters, it looks like I'll be downloading ubuntu and burning it over to DVD. From there I'll reboot pc with DVD in the drive. It should boot to the DVD and them I'll be up and running with ubuntu as required. Is this much correct?

I will also need to make sure that I do not have any HTC files on my pc as well, right?

my current sd card is either 4 or 8gb. Is that enough for the phone?

I'll stop todays Q and A session there...... lol

Yes, once you get the LiveCD running, you're good to go. :)

Once you boot your PC to Ubuntu, you won't need to worry about any HTC drivers, they won't be there. ;)

Either way, your SD card is good, It'a when it's below 4gigs we see weird stuff start to happen. Also, make sure you back your SD card up before you start!! The process can corrupt the contents or wipe it out entirely.

Lastly, don't worry about asking questions, thats why we're here. :)

Thanks Granite.

Without sounding redundant...... I download ubuntu and burn it to dvd. That is now what is being referred to as the 'live cd'. Is that correct?
