Accessories Car Dock Discussion Thread

Got a car dock off Ebay for four dollars. Love it. Use that for my truck and I use a leather anti slide pad from Wal mart for the center console in my mustang

Regarding the Tetrax products...would the magnets themselves harm the phone at all? Magnets and computers don't usually get along. Has anyone read or heard of the magnet not holding and the device falling off? It says it can withstand 5g of acceleration, what happens if you get in a minor accident? Will it still hold?
I can't imagine that it would fare any worse than any other mount. If you hit something, it should be fine. Any other accidents...it depends.

Check this thing out. It's for the HTC HD2, but hopefully they make something like this for the Incredible:

HTC Car Cradle Kit - CU S400

Description
Mount your HTC HD2 securely to your dashboard or windshield with this car cradle kit. Including a replacement battery cover with charging connection and a microUSB charger, your HD2's NaviPanel will activate upon being connected to this mount, so it's instantly ready to guide you to your destination.

This is like the mount for the Nexus one isn't it? It does look like a nice mount.

I tried the M2, but for the life of me I can't get that stupid adhesive disc to stick to the back of my case (I have the red/black gradient case). Plus it's really hard to take it in and out, and the mount is flimsy and not "stiff" enough. I really don't like it.

I think I'll hold out for a ThinkGeek coupon and try the Tetrax XWay...

There is another thread around here with issues using the red/black gradient case. You have to tighten the screws, when you find the optimal position, or the mount will not hold it's position.

Here's my little DIY setup, which was completely free as I already had the stuff lying around. It works if you already use the Body Glove case with the quick-release belt clip. I simply zip-tied an old belt clip part to an old Sirius radio vent attachment, and then I unsnap the phone from my belt and simply snap it into the clip on my dash.

I've never used a car dock before so I have a very basic question. I want the same thing that others have cited in that I just drop my phone in and it is automatically connected and charging. What happens when a phone call comes in? Does the phone automatically go to a speakerphone mode when you answer it? I'm waiting to see what Seidio releases as that looks like the best bet so far. Thanks in advance.

I had a member asking me if the disk was staying adhered to my Seidio Innocase. FYI - I have had NO PROBLEMS with it sticking. Here is what I did.

When I first stuck the disk to my original VWZ Red Gel case (still sticking btw) I put smack dab in the center of the phone. This is not a good location IMHO as when I laid the phone down, disk side down, it would tilt the wrong way (i.e. when looking at phone it would tilt away). So on my Seidio I made sure to position the disk so it was above the center towards the top. This way when I laid the phone down, it angled towards me. As far as centering left to right, the ridge only allows you to put the disk right up against it, which is almost center. After I had it positioned I put a SPRING CLAMP on the case and let it sit for just over an hour. It has not moved since. I ordered a FIX from Tetrax and some extra disks. That being said (since I had extra disks) I really try and make the thing come off, and it doesn't. Here are some pics.

Hope this helps or eliminates the thought that they do not stick.

It seems like none of the docks suggested so far have an amplifier/speaker?

Like this one for iPhone?

Amazon.com: Kensington K66627US Windshield Car Mount with Sound Amplified Cradle for iPhone…

I need one that I can take from one car to another easily, so probably vent (we have 3 cars), and ideally one that has a speaker/amplifier built in.

I don't care about power as i already have a charger.

So far I can't find anything that fits the bill...in fact can't find any with speaker/amplifier for Incredible, period.

Has anyone had any good luck yet with a specific universal grip type? Being able to use the mount with a case on the phone is a major advantage to me.

Anyone handy with a drill and screw driver should be able to purchase an Innocase combo (Surface case and holster) and a second holster, remove the clip and screw the extra holster to some kind of mount, whether it be dash, windshield, cup holder or console.

The Bracketron Cup-it (cup-holder mount) comes with a removable Grip-It and a notch adapter that can easily be attached to the holster. Although the Seidio holster is designed to be used screen-side toward the back, to use it screen-side out requires notching of the portion that covers the usb port, if charging is needed.

The notch adapter is designed to be vertical for phones with the button on the back (like when you remove your clip), but work great as a surface to screw the holster to. It slips onto the Bracketron mounts:

There is another thread around here with issues using the red/black gradient case. You have to tighten the screws, when you find the optimal position, or the mount will not hold it's position.

i tightened the screw on mine as shown, but it was too tight then and when i tried to make it a little more slack, i just could not find the sweet spot. then my disk fell off my phone. then the second one did the same thing. yes, i followed the directions, used the wipe, let it dry, didn't touch it, held it on tightly, waited, all that. i just could not get the M2 to work for me. a little too much german engineering for me, i guess.

i just ordered the xway last week and it's on its way. can't wait. it looks awesome and just what i want. not super enthused about the vent thing, but it looks easy and it sounds like the disks stick better. i love the idea of just pushing it into the dock and it staying there. really looking forward to it; i'll report back when i get it.

The Tetrax looks really cool but I'm not feeling the small magnet on the back of my case.

Did you ever get this? If so, how did it turn out? I, like you, REFUSE to stick ANYTHING to the back of my INC...IMO, it ruins the entire look of the phone. I also go NAKED so sure as heck am not sticking anything to the actual phone.

In search of a dock and it seems that the vent docks are the only way I could possibly not have to use any phone adhesives or anything.

BTW, the X one looks so awesome, simple and compact and is verrrrrry tempting.!

We have a bunch of shipping foam here at work, I attached phone to the XWAY and literally shook as hard as I could OVER the foam, and it did not come off. When taking off the mount, you slide to left or right, comes off.

I LOVE THIS THING!!!!!!!!!

:)

I had the exact same Arkon air vent mount in my old Honda Civic. It worked very well. The holder as great for almost any phone and holds the Incredible PERFECTLY without blocking any ports or hitting buttons. You can also adjust the feet at the bottom by sliding them in case the girlfriend/wife drives the car and has a different (read: inferior :p) phone.

I also have a suction cup mount I got with my Garmin Nuvi that is compatible with the arkon holder. I was found out that the swivel head on the airvent mount is the exact same size as the ball on my nuvi mount, so I can switch one to the windshield, one to the airvent and vice versa. Pretty handy when you're an a trip or crusin' around. Arkon sells an airvent / windshield bundle with the mega grip holder if anyone is interested in that.

You know, as cool as this car dock talk and photos all is, with the wood variants and all, I just had a flash that I think I'm just going to put a piece of self sticky soft side velcro on the back, and put the harder hook stuff wherever I want the phone in any vehicle. :D

I tried this with my Nano. Works great 3 seasons out of the year. In the Summer, the interior of the car gets too hot, at least in my case, and the self adhesive stuff 'melts' off of the dash. Not sure that I'd want to have to look down to see the GPS either.

Wow, thanks a ton. I just bought two of the M2's. Can't wait for them to arrive. 2 mounts for $15 (including shipping) is awesome!
