Root Custom recovery on x!!!!!!!

I downloaded the Bootstrap app from last night, is there an update I have to install?

If yea, do I uninstall the one I have first and then install the new apk?

no i already got the bootstrap installed, i was talking about the chrome app

No just install it like an app using a astro, find it click on it, press app manger then install

Is there an update? Or was I just guessing there was? If there is a different version of bootstrap than posted last night, can someone provide the newest version? And would I have to do the bootstrap recovery again?

I'm confused, I already tried the Reboot Recovery option to reboot into the custom one and backup, but what exactly does the Bootstrap Recovery option do?? I didn't see anything change besides the confirmation of it doing something...

heh, I am excited but I really don't know what all this means. I will wait to see the reaction from people like you :) I am sure I won't be able to wait and I will just have to dig in like everyone else...be prepared to walk me through it, haha.

It installs the bootstrap recovery, then for now on you only press reboot recovery.

I guess koush made it too difficult and should of had all adb work:p

Hit the "reboot recovery" button after and it will reboot your phone into recovery mode or whatever it's called and you can backup your phone, then reboot into normal mode.

Oh so the only way to get into the custom one is to have pressed the Bootstrap Recovery button once, and from then on you have to press the Reboot Recovery button to get into everytime?

I was confused because not one blog or site said exactly that lol.

And the recovery that it makes is EVERYTHING? Every app, menu setting, widget position, contact, text message, etc??? Does it leave anything out? How is this different from creating a full Titanium Backup and restoring it which I have done many times?

If you can't turn on your phone you can't use titanium backup. I think this option allows you to restore if your phone is bricked because you hack in so early in the boot process. At least, that's how I understand it.

I read that if it can't turn on/is bricked you still have to SBF in?? I think koush's page said that??

And how do you even boot into that custom recovery if you can't get into the phone to re-run the custom recovery reboot action?

You do a battery pull and then it magically knows...really I am not kidding

I don't think that it matters that its a early hijacking rather that it is totally separate from android so even if its toast you can still get into recovery

Yea, what droider 13 says. Has anyone pulled their battery to test it?

Pull the battery and do the button combo for recovery? Or just let it boot normal? Cause letting it boot normal did nothing just now and the button combo just boots into regular recovery..

Nevermind looks like doing the Home+Power button at bootup after a battery pull and then letting go of Power and keep holding Home after the Moto logo shows, then hitting Search when the ! shows up...it goes to regular recovery but then redirects to the custom one!

So this will only happen after a battery pull but not after a regular reboot into recovery?

lol yeah it's pretty uneventful, right now it just makes a backup.

You'll see the magic when you do a restore. Later it will be used to load custom roms. That's when you'll realize how cool the backup/restore option is....;)
