Root CyanogenMod 7 Unofficial Beta 5 02/20/12

But really how could you not be happy with this rom. I mean i was hoping hroark was having better luck with gingerbread. But if it doesnt work out and he continues to work on this one i won't be mad.. I mean.. I have cyanogenmod 7 on my prevail. So, GB or not im happy. Thank you Hroark.. We are behind you no matter what you think is best. I honestly wish i could help in some way.

I am actually running CM7 on my GB and aside from some common issues it is running flawlessly. I am digging around in the source for any things that I can contribute to this to adjust for these errors on GB...

Problems I am encountering on GB:
  • GPS cutout / extremely long time finding GPS signal
  • Camera button doesn't work to take pictures but works flawlessly to open camera
  • Some widgets don't show up on installed widget list and cannot be added to home screen

wait... what? u have cm7 running on gingerbread?

yes I do....

It's not so much for froyo as it requires the EE14 baseband and uses the same core kernel revision as froyo because that's all that worked at the time hroark released this mod.

just curious since kouma and hroark say its not possible on the EJ06 baseband yet. Would u mind posting a screenshot of your "about phone" menu, towards the very bottom so we can see.

I have the ej06 baseband... on my cm7... just the modem though...

what i believe that Hroark and Kouma were talking about was building a new Cm7 with the GB kernel that was recently released... Our version of cm7 uses a modified version of the Froyo Kernel...

tbstewa is speaking about the system being GB not the kernel

ok cool. and did u try fasterfix or gps fix for the gps to work faster? The camera is a known problem that has not been fixed yet, however you can change the shortcut button to one of the volume buttons for easier use. The widgets is one that has not been brought up yet.

Just to clarify things CM7 is Gingerbread, it is a newer version of GB than the stock GB

The stock GB is 2.3.5 CM7 is 2.3.7

I built CM7 around/using the Froyo 2.2.2 Kernel, RIL and libs

I have tried using the same methods with the stock GB 2.3.5 Kernel, RIL and libs, and it is being a major pain in the arse

I spent a lot of time getting the first version working, and have neglected other things in my life, when this new GB ROM came out, it is almost like I have to start over from scratch again.

This time of the year is a busy time for me, I will pick up this project again soon, but I need a break from it, and have to take care of other things.

If any other Dev wants to look at and use my source code, I welcome them to it, I can use all the help I can get with this.

Hroark, between Shabby and yourself laying the ground work out for everybody else and being front and center all the time, it's a wonder that y'all have even had time to eat or sleep. You have truly earned a well deserved break, and we Prevail users say THANK-YOU for everything!!!!!

Yeah dude, take a break. You already gave this phone something that no one thought was possible. You've earned some time off

How did you do that? I seen it earlier and his screen shot said EJ06. Wonder how

Use odin and use chin checka's recovery images, use only the .ops file and the phone .tar and it will just update the modem and leaves your system in-tact the way it is, apps and all.

anyone know anything about how things are going with the GB based CM??

i used odin to flash SPHM820_EJ06-CWM5-Rooted to my prevail then used recovery to flash cm-7.1.0-HROARK-beta2d.zip plus hot fix plus carrier fix to my phone with no issues rockin cm7 on gb and love it

This looks great Hroark.. any chance this will ever be put on the ACS updater app? I know I saw that it hasn't from trying to read all the msgs in the thread.. but don't think I ever found an answer unless I missed it..

Does it run ok with no problems? Hroark13 what you think of this? Should we or not

How is the phone running since you did this and battery life. Any. Big difference

Hroark, you truly deserve a break. Thanks for all your work.

Question for all those that installed cm7 from the stock gingerbread rom, is there any difference performance wise from installing it from froyo? Thinking about trying it, or is it a waste of time?

This is how to make your phone look, not run, like it has ics. This is for our samsung galaxy prevails running cm7

NOTE: i did not make any of these files, just posting how i got my phone to look like it has ics.

First download and install the modified ics theme from here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317283
Download and install the ics1.6.apk package and install it

Next go into theme chooser from the app drawer and select @string/theme_name. (that really is the ics theme, dev must have called it that by accident) when you try to apply it, theme chooser will tell you "sorry, this theme is missing assets... ". Dont worry about it and hit apply anyway. This will apply the theme for everything except launcher.

I would recommend you also download and extract the ICS Extras.zip file from that xda post. this includes the ics wallpapers and icons that are missing in the theme. to apply ics app drawer icon, on the launcher dockbar, press and hold down the icon and hit edit. note dont drag your finger. click on the icon and that will let you select your icon. you can then select picture and use the one from the extracted ICS Extras.zip on your phone.

for the wallpaper, just apply the extracted wallpaper from the ICS Extras file.

to get the dockbar with the five icon ics style settings>ADWLauncher>UI Settings>Main Dock Style and select option "5 icon". that will give you five slots on the dock in your homescreen.

That should do it. From there just modify things to your like or look at screenshots of ics to make it look more like the real thing.

for the ics lockscreen use widget locker.

So you guys can see the results, heres a screenshot of my phone:

Again, i made nothing, just sharing the steps how i did it for anyone interested. Many thanks to the devs making our phones better
