Root CyanogenMod 7 Unofficial Beta 5 02/20/12

I am sure that you know this already, but the CM7 zip comes with standard free ADW. ADW EX is a paid app (cheap) upgrade.

The free launcher runs just fine. But, I have noticed that EX seems to run even better. It takes ADW settings off the standard settings menu and moves it somewhere else, but EX adds a lot of nice additional options too.

I finally uninstalled the free app but you can leave both and switch between them if you like. Just be sure to move EX to system apps in case you do a wipe. Actually, I haven't done a factory reset in forever. Not with this ROM anyway.

CM7 itself has enough options to keep you entertained for quite a while.

As far as I know you can use any launcher you prefer.

If you use a lot of apps, or just want to sd-ext install S2E. I have not tried DarkTremor with CM7 but it does work. Not sure which is better, but S2E is made for Cyanogen mod.

so you removed original adw? i was worried about doing that so i left both..but see no need to keep both. what about the stock browser have you gotten rid of that?

Yep. I use Dolphin HD. I run Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Maps, etc. from it instead of using the apps. Wish the maps app worked though.

I also installed Calengoo and uninstalled stock.

I use Handcent and uninstalled stock.

Of course, I have backups of the stock apps just in case.

with ct i would get rid of everything and replace it with what i wanted..but sense i tried to get rid of stock cm 7 keyboard and system converted go and it gave me all kinds of trouble for some reason..you backing up apps with tb?

I just checked the Market and the ADW EX is $3.32 . I think I'm gonna get it . I'm also running S2E , it was the first thing I installed after installing the ROM .

I'm running TB Pro and it works GREAT ! It's what I used to transfer all apps after switching from CTMOD to CM7 . I'm getting ready to try some keyboards . I'll letcha know what i find that works . :D

I switched to Swype Beta and I love it. I still keep the stock keyboard but I never use it.

I still use Titanium Pro a lot. But I have had some minor and wierd stuff with it, but rarely. Mostly from using it to move apps from data to system or to SD. I really don't do this anymore anyway with CM7 so for most stuff TB is fine. I use Root Explorer a lot more for odd stuff.

Ok guys . I got Thumb Keyboard 4 from Amazon when it was free . It's working great plus there are a lot of nice themes and layouts to choose from . I like the looks of the split keyboard . I think I'll probably run it for a while . :cool:

@ Wyelkins , I don't use Swype that often . I just installed the VoiceSearch.apk which didn't come w/ the ROM . LOL , I get lazy and don't wanna type sometimes . :p :D

EDIT: I may install Swype Beta just to give it a try .

No doubt man ! Root Explorer is the way 2 go . That was one of the best purchases I've made .

I did the same thing and used voice for a long time. I finally took the time to really learn Swype. Now, I hardly ever turn on my laptop for much. It is all on this phone with Swype beta. It has really changed me into a smartphone USER, not just something to play with and have cheap wifi.

LOL ! OK , you talked me in to it . I'm gonna try the Swype Beta . I just bought ADW EX too . I'll end up playing with it for an hour or so . HEH , this is like having a new phone all over again . :D

One thing I realized recently: I was sick with the flu and did not feel like doing anything including using the laptop. But I could lay in the bed with the phone and stay occupied.

LOL !! Man , I do that just about every night . It doesn't bother the wife like the lap top does . Speaking of lap tops , I'm gonna PM you a link so you can check out this new German roll up lap top . You're gonna trip on this thing man ! :eek:
 
i realized why my drop down menu is freezing when i drop it down you can slide the text message either way>>><<< and sometimes it gets stuck and freezes the whole menu until you reboot your phone.
 
Hi All. First time poster, been following for a while though. Would like to thank hroark and all the other developers working so hard on the prevail. You have made using this phone infinitely more enjoyable compared to stock! Awesome stuff! CM7 is a great ROM!
 
Regarding the Google Maps app; I found that it worked initially as installed with the ROM but, I believe, as I installed other apps something caused it to slooooow down to the point it says it is not responding and asks if you would like to wait or force close it. Perhaps some sort of conflict. In my case I suspect it is the MyTracks app. It seems by reading this thread others are having similar problems.

I haven't seen any solutions posted as of yet, but I believe I have found a workaround for this problem. Took me a number of hours over the weekend, but my Maps app is working flawlessly now!

1. Force Stop Maps then clear data under Settings>>Applications>>Manage Apps>>All tab>>Maps

2. Uninstall (after backing up) Maps using Root Uninstaller (Titanium Backup should work fine too)

3. Download cm-7.1.0-HROARK-beta-35.zip (if you don't already have it) then extract the version of Maps from it (should be 5.8.0) - or you can Google it like wetbiker7 did.

4. Place this version of Maps into ApkInstaller.zip following the instructions located here.

5. Place the resulting file onto the SD card, reboot into CWM and flash the zip (i.e. "ApkInstaller.zip" or whatever you decide to call it). Thanks to Bloodawn for this tool!

6. Reboot phone and launch Maps.

7. Enjoy flawless operation of Google Maps again in combination with this awesome ROM of hroark's.

Perhaps others who are having the same problem can try these steps and see if it works for them. Please provide feedback and I will edit as needed.

Hroark, If this does work for others, perhaps there is a way to incorporate it (Maps 5.8.0) into a hotfix or the next revision of the ROM? Also, if you do include it I wonder if there is a way to block the market from offering the Maps update, as the current one does not work either (tried it as well to see if it would fix the hang problem). At least that would prevent people from updating the functional Maps version unaware of the problems they will have.
 
the only problem i was having with maps was with navigation. Uninstalling the updates through "manage apps" is all i did and it works flawlessly.
 
Hi Monster. Navigation worked for me regardless of Maps version, however Maps and Places hung until I installed version 5.8.0 as previously mentioned.
 
That's a big 10-4 on the Maps 5.8.0 . Googled it , scanned it , copied to SD card , copied and pasted to system/app and BAM !! We have a WINNER !! :D
 
Unfortunately, I have a minor error to report regarding Bluetooth functionality. It seems, I can no longer BT files back and forth between mine and my fiances prevail, she is on B4 and I am on B3 with the Speakerphone fix added but no matter which way i sent the files it wouldn't even connect and attempt to send, just instant failure.

I have this problem also, it seems to be with receiving the transfer. I can bt from prevail TO anything, but from another device to prevail fails every time

Edit: reflashed, tried both B3 & B4 w/hotfixes. same result, maybe it's my phone:confused: Getting late, I'll try with stock tomorrow.
