HTC DROID Eris OS 2.1v3 download

Forgot to show my Gratitude! That you to everyone who made this possible!

Done! Process was easy, Glad I upgraded, restoring my apps and media now.

Fine I did it.

Hint. Ya all you downloads are in market. But make sure you get the all at once. Or they go away. Hmm now what was that app lol

Didn't even touch a computer for the update. Till I went to restore my contacts lol

I haven't had any problems thus far and my web links in apps is finally work! Hooray! Even better, I can finally see images in FarkReader (which is the whole point of reading Fark comments, right?).

1) Does this update allow root? If so, can someone point me at the correct version of the root instructions for this update?

2) I know this wipes downloaded apps, but does it wipe user-data for those apps? In other words, do I need to worry about trying to backup my data that is on the phone, but NOT "in the cloud" -or- on the SD card?

Thanks.

This is not for root. There is a version for root out there they have everything you need in the root subforum.

I was under the impression (probably incorrect) that there are root hacks that can be applied over various versions of the Eris 2.1 updates. That, or a root hack that would survive an pseudo "OTA" update like this.

Correct or not?

No and No

As far as anyone knows, is this reversible? If I try this and some "must have" app fails, is there any way to go back to Eris 1.5v2 (the updated 1.5 that came OTA)?

I'm definitely not the expert on this but the way I understand it is that once you install this leak you will no longer be rooted. I think it has something to do with the boot loader. If you want root I suggest heading over to the root section where they have complete step by step instructions on how to root. Once your rooted you can flash certain roms to your phone but not this exact one. They have a version of this one but for rooted users. I wish I could explain it better for you but that's about the extent of my knowledge on rooting at this poiint.

So someone has already come up with a version of this release that includes root? Or a set of root instructions for this "leak"?

a bug i noticed today was after a got a text message and responded to it the icon for the next text still appears in the indicator bar till i press the clear button

The way I understand it is you have to go through the root process while still on 1.5 and then you can flash the v3 rooted edition. Once you're rooted it's just a matter of flashing whichever rooted rom you want to use.

Wow, those are a lot of bugfixes. So maybe the reason why the OTA update is being so delayed is because they want get all (or at least most) of the major functionality bugs out. To be honest, I'm okay with that.

I'm not sure if someone mentioned it, but a good way to keep track of the apps you had installed is to download AppBrain before you do the upgrade. This way you will have your list of installed apps on their website and can refer to it post-upgrade...

So, I finally took the plunge & rooted my phone. Immediately after that a new leak came out. Coincidence? I think not.
BTW, there is now a ROM for rooted phones based on the 2.1v3 leak.
And it is nice :)

Yeah....you just gotta keep on restarting. Sucks, but...what can ya do?

Yes sir, you are correct, nothing to do with about it...Just wondering if there had been any updates regarding the issue, I haven't been sifting the site the last couple of weeks and when I saw this thread I was just curious. Thanks for your response, I appreciate it!! :)

Not yet. There's a 'chance' we'll be able to do it by this weekend.

Could you email or pm or what ever me if this happens? I am starting to have other hardware issues with my Eris and may have to trade; I don't want to take it to the store with 2.1 on it..I have been told I can send it in...not sure what I am going to do yet...
