Root [Kernel][GB] KoumaKernel 2.5

Will there be any kernels for the battery for this phone like say supercharged to keep your battery lasting longer than usual or is there one already otherwise great kernel :)

Not that I know of. All I do is toggle off the data and you still get texts and calls. As for any notifications, I just toggle on and check email, twitter, forums, ect..... I used to have to charge in the middle of the day and now at the end of the day, without a charge, I still have around 50% left. Works really well for me!:D

What cwhatever does will get you the biggest bang for your buck. After some searching, the only thing so called battery saving kernels seem to offer is a conservative cpu governor. We've already got that, so you could use that governor and see how your mileage varies :)

Two dumb questions:
1. So, if I'm using SSM, do I only get the internal storage to install apps? It's not really a huge issue, but it was kind of cool having all the space for apps that I had when I used Data.
2. How do I know what path to put for swap in the Koumamod settings? I made a partition for it, but it doesn't seem to be working unless I put a path in- how do I know which partition is the swap space I created?

I'm sure these have been answered before, but I searched and couldn't really find it. :( thanks!

The extra storage won't show up using SSM. This is because it doesn't Mount the sdext as the /data partition. It just mounts part of the /data folder. (/data/app to one partition and /data/dalvik on the other)

All your other data stays in the phone

If you open titanium backup, there should be a graphic display showing the available space. Alternatively, if you open terminal emulator and type
Code:
df
it will display all your partitions and the space available.

dev/block/mmcblk0p3

Just re partition your card in CWM then pick data or SSM format it and then should be good to go no need to buy a new card.

thank you, i thought if i re partitioned it then it would make yet another one and make it even smaller.. lol.

ill go give it a shot

No partitioning will wipe the whole card and then re partition it you also need to backup the card to your PC first and then when done copy stuff back from PC to SD card because you will lose everything that's on there

ya i know id loose it all if i dont back it up, i got back ups of my sd card on 2pcs and online lol. i ended up getting it to work, thank you cwhatever.

Hey guys I'm stumped here.....I switched koumamod settings from data to ssm and reinstalled my apps and everything and I had read on here that even though your phone will show the normal internal storage the capacity should stay like it is and very seldom change in ssm but whenever I install something else on the SD card the internal storage goes up more each time. Did I do something wrong? Because I was under the impression that in ssm it's not supposed to affect your internal storage when installing to the SD card. What do you think the problem is? I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks in advance. :)

It will use less when installed to SD card then the internal memory but it will still no matter what use some data. I have a lot of apps some on SD card and a lot of data with some of the apps and I have about half of my internal used. If your internal is getting down to around 30mb free then you have done something wrong or you have just have too much stuff.

Data mode = all of /data moved to sdext
SSM = /data/app moved to sdext1, /data/dalvik moved to sdext2. With SSM /data/data stays on internal memory. So internal will go down, just in much smaller increments.

All of your apps data are still on internal, all of your preferences & sertings, all of your text messages. This is why internal goes down... but is also the reason its faster than /data mode.

Ok so you guys are saying that even with ssm and all of my downloaded apps on SD card the data from the apps still remain on internal memory? Is that correct?

Because right now my internal is at 102mb used and 58mb free .....is that ok or bad?

Depends on how many apps you have and how much data they have. I have about 120 apps and some have some data on them and around 75 free. You might not have it setup right. When you first install the rom and pic ssm before you add any apps it should say something like 9 used and 140 something free. then as you add apps it will go down, if done wrong it will go down below a 100 or even near 50 when a few apps are added.

In terminal emulator type
Code:
df

It will list the info for your partitions.

The listing for /data is internal memory, the listing for /data/app is sdext1 and the listing for /data/dalvik is sdext2

Ok well I didn't do it like you are describing ......I didn't do a fresh install of the rom. I was already running half ass rom before with data mode selected and I just made a cwm backup, wrote down all of my apps I previously had, wiped data, rebooted, switched over to ssm, rebooted again to let changes take affect and started installing apps one by one......and before I even started reinstalling my apps internal was reading like 55mb used and 105 free right after I switched over but now it's reading like 88mb used and 72mb free and I have only installed like maybe 10-12 apps so far which is a very small fraction of the apps that I am reinstalling. So should I do a fresh install of half ass and go from there? Do you think that may be the problem?

Oh also the only reason why I gained a little more free space from my previous report is because I cleaned out some unnecessary data and uninstalled some useless system apps but it's still not as good as it's supposed to be.

Ok I went in terminal emulator and this is what I got:

I know it didn't paste exactly like it was listed in terminal but maybe you can clear this up because I don't see where it says anything about internal memory, sdext1 or sdext2.....I guess I'm not reading it right lol. Maybe you can help me understand this better please if you don't mind. :)

Don't need to do fresh install just need to switch to ssm and then go into cwm and format the sdext then reboot and then look at the memory, if all is good then install apps.

By this not in ssm. there should be another one of these with a 3 at the end (/dev/block/mmcblk0p2)
