LG G3 Pre-release/Rumor/Speculation Thread

So I stopped at the VZW store on the way home and checked out the current line-up:

GS5 - That screen is beautiful - bright and sharp. I found the rest of the design uninspiring. Didn't like the chrome bezel and band aide-esque back. Felt cheap in the hand.

LG G2 - Wow, just wow. The small bezels are awesome. If they had just taken the G2 added a micro slot, updated the SOC, and made the back more premium.... I would be throwing money at LG. I still can't figure out the move to the new qHD screen

HTC M8 - Holy bezels and super slippery. Screen is sharp and bright. Super premium feel in hand. OS is smooth as butter.

You may be right.

I was just thinking about Verizon and the One X - everyone got one, except Verizon customers who months later got a non-equivalent Incredible - and the M7, released later as well.

What's the point of LG saying - available right away in the United States but not until carriers release it with bloatware and btw if we sell direct it's a contract violation?

Everyone on Verizon blamed HTC for not offering to sell the One X and the M7 - except the rest of the country had them already.
Hmm. Most people I knew blamed Verizon. I blame Verizon for just about everything device related on their network.

Exactly:
Take the GS5 screen & removable battery, put it in the G2,add one of the M8's speakers to the front,a mash-up of the G2 & M8 U/I's,add an SD Card slot & you have the perfect phone.

I thought the G2 screen was nice. Give me that battery life with a SD slot, 801 soc, and make it feel like the M8 and I'm in. After seeing the G2 screen... I just don't see the glaring need for the new screen.

I'm all for raising the bar on technology but in this case, I must agree. If the rest of the hardware aptly supports it, great. But if there's a step backwards in battery life, which I think we can fully expect from existing reviews and using some logic on our own, then for my needs the end doesn't justify the means.

I have so enjoyed the ridiculously good battery life of the G2 that I don't have much interest in taking a step backward in that regard. For my money, battery life > QHD.

I'd agree. The new screen, by all accounts, is going to be stunning. For me though, it's just not worth the trade offs of battery life and brightness.

I turned on every Google function and service I could think of today.

Drove down my great battery story, got just over 4 hours of screen life using 90% of my battery. .

I'm proud to say that I was able to generate over 1,000 wakelocks per hour.

From Google Services alone!

 :thrasher:

The frankenphone. I love it.

Although you know we would all still complain when the frankenphone prime comes out in September.

Google now /services is a huge battery drain monster.

Based on the apparent early lore of the G3, that heavy use would be equated as similar on the G3, but eight hours of use and 20% battery life ;) GSMarena and several others do real tests on the gpu, but others weight heavy with calls and video playback. Of course battery life will seem better in that case, due to the big battery. So far, the four tests that actually mainly leverage the gpu with apps and web show at least two hours less than other devices.

Edited grammar and spelling. Still not too good, but better.

I guess yours if you getting it will be the 805 variant. You seem to emphasize gpu usage much...

Looks like I'm changing carriers. I'm gonna pay full price and switch to AT&T BYOD plan. I refuse to pay full price for a device and then be required to trade it in:mad:

Elizabeth: Hello Trent!
Elizabeth: How are you doing tonight?
Trent: I'm well, and you?
Elizabeth: I'm not too bad, what can I do for ya?
Trent: I'm looking at upgrading the phones on my lines and had some question on the edge program.
Elizabeth: What would you like to know about edge?
Trent: If I do the edge program... are the phones mine to keep after I pay them off?
Elizabeth: You could keep the phones after you pay them off, unless you want to go into a new edge agreement and then you would need to trade in your device.
Trent: I have to trade them in to do a new edge agreement even if I pay off 100% of the device cost????
Elizabeth: If the device is completely paid off you should then be able to keep them..
Trent: So which is it? I just asked that and you said I have to trade in the device if I want to do a new edge agreement?
Elizabet: In most cases if you choose to go into a new edge agreement you will be asked to trade in a device, however if you have paid for the price in full you should be able to keep it
Trent: Should be able or will be able?
Elizabeth: Are you asking for when you want to start a new edge agreement? If so you have to trade in a device.
Trent: Why would i have to trade in the device if I have paid it off 100%?
Elizabeth: The edge program requires a device to be traded in.

That is a key weight of battery use. Still holding on to a chance of a 3/32 so I can get one and test. Could be surprised in a good way. If only a 16gb model, I prefer my 32g S4.

Given tonight's conversation with VZW.... I'm leaning towards grabbing a couple GPE M8 and giving AT&T a try.

Let me know how that goes please. I looked into it awhile back when I thought about going Nexus and was told by a store rep that to bring my own phone and get full time 4G it would be about $100 for a line. That doesn't really seem to be the case when I look at their site now but sometimes the numbers can be fuzzy until you actually try to make it happen so any info you can provide would be appreciated.
