I never used edge or next program. But my understanding is they require phone trade in only if upgrading phone in the middle of edge payment period or for someone joining edge before his/her contract is up. Having to trade in your current phone to start edge no matter what doesn't sound right. Really sucks if that's true. I left verizon for other reasons anyway.

Looks like I'm changing carriers. I'm gonna pay full price and switch to AT&T BYOD plan. I refuse to pay full price for a device and then be required to trade it in:mad:

Elizabeth: Hello Trent!
Elizabeth: How are you doing tonight?
Trent: I'm well, and you?
Elizabeth: I'm not too bad, what can I do for ya?
Trent: I'm looking at upgrading the phones on my lines and had some question on the edge program.
Elizabeth: What would you like to know about edge?
Trent: If I do the edge program... are the phones mine to keep after I pay them off?
Elizabeth: You could keep the phones after you pay them off, unless you want to go into a new edge agreement and then you would need to trade in your device.
Trent: I have to trade them in to do a new edge agreement even if I pay off 100% of the device cost????
Elizabeth: If the device is completely paid off you should then be able to keep them..
Trent: So which is it? I just asked that and you said I have to trade in the device if I want to do a new edge agreement?
Elizabet: In most cases if you choose to go into a new edge agreement you will be asked to trade in a device, however if you have paid for the price in full you should be able to keep it
Trent: Should be able or will be able?
Elizabeth: Are you asking for when you want to start a new edge agreement? If so you have to trade in a device.
Trent: Why would i have to trade in the device if I have paid it off 100%?
Elizabeth: The edge program requires a device to be traded in.
wth?????????????? So you paid your phone off and you don't ant a new edge contract you have to trade the phone in??????? huh. that's how they get out of grandfathering you into an outdated benefit. slimey.

Yes, I can corroborate Trent's findings. I was told the same when I checked into Edge recently. I think the reason why they do this is so people don't use Edge as a means to pay off a phone while taking 20 months to do it. For that reason and with their current phone purchasing options, it does make some sense that they require a trade imo.

Without that stipulation, why would anybody do the device payment program where you pay cost of phone over 12 months when you could use Edge and get a 20 month interval instead meaning less $$ per month?

A good solution...match the intervals so they're both 20 months. That way you can either keep the phone when paid off or trade in and edge up. They still win because you paid full price for the phone AND they don't negate the existence of their 12 month device payment program. But that would be way too common sensical for Verizon.

Primarily a video about how massive the 5.5 inch iphone 6 is, but it does show the comparative size of the G3, which looks like a mini, next to the Ip6. G3 has a whole lot going for it. New Ip6 reports indicate the 4.7inch might not have OIS.

The bottom line looks like the G3 does use somewhat more battery when primarily surfing, but is about the same endurance as the G2 when using a combination of calls, photos, texts, etc. Your mileage may vary, and objects in my mirror(G3) are closer than they appear!!

Ah.

Screen size > audio for mobile device because you have a home theater system.

Got it.

:D

Anyway, I hope you're half as happy with your G3 as I am with my M8.

PS - not even going to comment on QHD being nice to have here. :p

You've had the M8 a week. You going to keep it? Sounds like it fits YOUR needs perfectly.

I'm absolutely satisfied.

It looks, sounds, and works great, battery life is excellent, reception is excellent.

Even though Blinkfeed is supposed to be available only with the Sense launcher, SolApathy figured out how to make it an activity shortcut in Nova launcher; Blinkfeed is an excellent news aggregator and Nova is my favorite.

I use Nova with the Sense lockscreen and that gives me gestures and double tap to wake it up and Viper rom gives me a gesture to put it to sleep.

I finally have a raw camera on a cell phone and get to use multi-layered photo editing.

It's just the right size for me, being not wider than my old one (actually less wide with my case choice this time) but a 0.3" bigger picture.

And I got a killer deal on it.

What's not to love?

PS - I just realized...

I came from the top dual core in 2012 with a 1/16 setup, 12 GB for me, one speaker and a 720p screen (so that's about a megapixel).

This has the top quad core out at the moment, 2/32 with 24 GB for me, stereo speakers and a 1080p screen (so that's about 2 megapixels).

Going by nothing other than the prime specs, I've basically doubled my hardware right down the line.

Sounds like you have tailored it to perfectly fit your needs. The only thing that would be extra great would be if "Ok Google" was always listening, like the Moto X, without killing the battery. I've had Siri and Google Now compares very, very favorably with Siri. It might even be faster and present the verbal info in a more familiar way, not like a robot.

I got burned out on verbal commands four years ago. I used the OK Google thing for the first time time tonight to surf for youtube tunes and I have to admit that it was pretty easy. But still a novelty. I've often used speech recognition for typing over the years anyway.

I really wanted the proximity gestures to wake it up but I had those before on an app. I might give it a spin again but I'm already hooked on the double tap to wake, I can see why LG owners love that.

The only real screw up I can think of is that this doesn't have OIS and that's confusing considering that the M7 did. Otoh, this has a different camera than the M7 and I got the Duo Camera, probably a fair trade for the G3 IR focus. I don't shoot videos but I do shoot HDR from time to time. I'm used to not having OIS - but if there's one feature I'd like and didn't get, it's the G3's OIS. From what I've read, it's quite a step up from the G2 version.

Boo! Apparently this is an official Verizon video with title. The VS985 is listed as 2/16 for specs at several sites so unless they also offer a 3/32, looks like my faith in Verizon holds firm. Best Buy dude might be correct about Tmo exclusivity. That, or the other carriers just don't give a darn and want one model to deal with that will turn the most units. The carriers can smell the green from all of those over-priced accessory sales.

Hey, look at the cool wireless charger I bought from Verizon for $50!!!!

My heart is sinking. I have mentally accepted everything about this phone, but I can't buy a phone with 16gb of storage.

I might ride out my m7 with sense 6 until something grabs me later in the year.

Still no published info yet from other carriers, so it ain't over until the greedy carriers sing :)

Added: They sure are taking a long time to sing though.... Mimes?

Now a report today that even Apple is cutting out 16gb models with the iphone 6. It's time to relegate 16gb to budget phones only!

Let me know how that goes please. I looked into it awhile back when I thought about going Nexus and was told by a store rep that to bring my own phone and get full time 4G it would be about $100 for a line. That doesn't really seem to be the case when I look at their site now but sometimes the numbers can be fuzzy until you actually try to make it happen so any info you can provide would be appreciated.

I'll let you know what I find out. I'm month to month on one of my lines and the contract on the other is up on 7/4. I'm gonna call ATT today and see what I can learn.

But based on what they have all over the website Family Cell Phone Plans

Same sinking feeling after being so stoked about the G3. I still have hope, but its seems more likely that it won't be the first round of Verizon releases. I'm even upset that they took away wireless charging for the US markets. I don't get why they allowed this otherwise premium phone to be all numbed down so it won't stand out.

btw guys, Google I/O Keystone will start in two hours live. we all better check it out, we might get some sight of nexus 6 maybe a silver, who knows. just reminding y'all

No sd card, so no silver. Unless a bullet fired by them ;) Gapple can keep their cloud. A 32GB device with no SD is just as bad (worse for media) than a 16GB with SD.

One you are $crewed for media and the other for apps. Pick your meh and love the cloud. A place where consumers use their data caps for their own content and battery life drains more instead of local content.

Simple solution: 32Gb with sd, but Gapple wants cattle herded to the cloud. Moooooo! :)

Would you get an Nexus with 64gb and 128gb?

Once you complete your Edge agreement the phone is yours. A new Edge agreement does not require you to trade in your phone. Only Early Edge does. VZW reps are really bad at explaining that.

The scenario that I wanted clarity on is:

I get edge, I pay off phone, before contract is up I want to do a new edge phone - Do I have to trade in the phone that I've paid off.

Does that equal early edge or is early edge trading in the phone before it is paid off?

I'm pretty sure that if you have paid off the phone you can get a new phone on edge without trading in the old one. Only if you have a balance remaining on the old phone do you need to trade it in to take advantage of early upgrade. So if you want a new phone in 6 months, edge gives you the ability to compare paying half 60% of the phone and trading it, versus paying full price and keeping or selling on your own the old one.

Yep, reading FAQs, once you pay phone in full, your edge agreement is complete, and you are basically off contract.

There certainly are a lot of references to VS985 16GB and none for 32GB. So either false information is being perpetuated by these sometimes bot looking specs comparison sites, or you were right Rush.

I don't believe for a second that they'll offer 2 phones so I'm hoping its a regurgitation of false info. Otherwise, its goodbye and goodnight for me. I'm on the fence for other reasons but I'm straight up outta the picture if its 16GB. I bought my last 16 years ago.

So, is the M8 the only option at this point? Or the Prime horizon? I can't think of any other new phones with 32gb. Maybe Moto
