Root LTEVO ROOTING FOR DUMMIES {The Complete Guide}

No soap, it's still waiting.

The screen warns to not press any buttons, so I tried power for 10 seconds - nothing.

Which, btw - when I tried the 10-second thing earlier, no lights flashed, nothing - I assumed that was normal for qualcomm download mode.

Naturally, WifelyMon is on pins and needles.

Yeah - it's not going to work I think. I killed it and tried -d /dev/ttyUSB1 - it found that and is now waiting for USB112.

Except this time it toggled back to USB0.

Different hardware architecture with respect to the device layout (my sd devices are reserved for my hard disk).

So, it's toggling between 0 and 1 on a Mac, it wants it to toggle between X and X12.

Well - it was worth a shot! :) :) :)

What surprises me is that the phone was up and working after the LazyPanda fail. It wasn't until I power-cycled to change sd cards that it decided it was off on it's own. :) :p

I forgot about that EM, Put that other card back in, and start the process for FindPanda over. It's worth a shot.

Damn, I hope this works.

By the way - as it seemed to want other devices than what I had, the penny finally dropped and I provided the missing devices (orig plus 12) by simply creating links between what it was looking for vs what I actually had while running.

That took me further into the process but then it hits a point where it complains that I'm not holding down the power button - no matter what I try, I can't keep up manually linking as fast as the Panda munches. :D

I'll toss in the old sd card, but I don't think it's going to work with this rig...

Too bad, I was hoping to flesh out some possible approaches beginning here for our Mac users. Oh well, is what it is.

I'm glad I did mine yesterday. If I would have seen all of this yesterday, my phone would still be s-on with old radios. !LOL! Holy smokes man, where'd you learn all that computer talk? hahahaha The more I read your posts, the more confused I became, hahahaha.

Glad you got your thang working again!

Thanks! :)

It shouldn't be that hard when you follow directions.

I wasn't interested in following directions, I was more interested in seeing what our boundaries are. My posts here are more for my memory in case the techniques can help others someday.

LoL - do not attempt Mac/Ubuntu/LazyPanda at home! :D (or at least check with me first)

I saw you got yours - welcome to s-off! :)

S-OFF so easy even a baby can do it!

Lol, I just picked my wife up a white evo on Saturday and thanks to gamblor bestbuy gave me my money back on Tuesday :)

I'm not sure who is more hungry tho, the lazy panda or baby panda. Either way pappa bear is happy that all his pandas are fed.

Ps. I used regawmod and lazy panda just like I did back in July on my phone. Still had all the files on my desktop. And I did it on windows 7 x64.. DO NOT TRY THAT AT HOME

Hmm... Now should I go fix the toilet or flash mamma bear a custom rom.

Probably should go fix the toilet :(

Thanks, yeah I was thinking the same. We bought the phone at best buy and they were out of stock so we had it shipped to us. I thought for sure it would have updated software. Now that I think about it I haven't seen anyone post that their phone came with a newer hboot. Unless it was a refurbished or they already took the OTA. Then again I haven't really looked or payed attention. It's nice but also shows how well this phone sold :(

Lots of people have gotten it with newer firmware.

I got my BestBuy's last black one, it was hboot 1.12... I wonder, if BB doesn't rotate their stock and as supplies are low, are we getting back to the beginning of the supply there? But yeah, too many people seem to think that Samsung=Android, so it's the big seller, and Sprint is largely a Samsung house.

Congratulations on two for two for LazyPanda with Windows. :) I was one for two with mine. :p :D

Yeah samsung has done some good ad campaigns. And the Apple patent war just seems to help them.

Have you heard of the HTC M7? Here's hoping that HTC knocks it out of the park and gets some god ads out there. Too bad I won't be able to buy one anyway.

As far as my rooting on windows goes. I had full intentions on doing the second phone on ubuntu. But after failing to get my recently bought hp laptop to boot anything but the pre-installed windows 8. I went and dug my desktop out of the moving boxes and set it up on the floor. I put it in a low resource mode (called turbo mode in tune up utilities) I put the phone in airplane mode and just set the panda free. I also did this on both phones BEFORE I activated them with sprint.. haha.

I have a question, I've only rooted on device before (stock ROM) and that was the OG EVO. I followed the guide and it worked fine. I recently updated my EVO LTE to our latest update (Jelly Bean) via the OTA update and I was wondering if I can use this guide so I can install MeanBean v.01? Thank you.

I imagine the latest update broke all of our s-off and automated methods. You'll have to use the manual HTC dev method linked in the all things root guide.

In the future, if you ever plan on rooting don't take the ota!:)

not sure if dirtyracun will work with the new hboot that is out. you can try it and let us know if it works or not. i have not read about what the latest ota has done to the rooting process.

but like rxperthas said, never accept an ota while you are rooted. we already have rooted stock versions of the ota out that you could have just flashed in recovery.

so if dirtyracun does not work then you will need to use the HTCdev method to unlock your bootloader.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll give the HTCdev method a try. Honestly, all want is MeanBean v0.1 lol

I just checked with them, hboot 2.09 confirmed not supported.

Good news is that HTCdev unlock and TWRP install aren't difficult. :)
Cool, so then if I go that route, I will be able to flash that ROM? (sorry, I've never been too fluent in rooting).

Yes, you'll be able to do everything an S-off phone can except flash kernels through the recovery, and flash stuff with the bootloader.

We have guides for everything, no worries! :)

Yep, once your bootloader is unlocked and you install TWRP you can flash any ROM you want. Make sure to read the thread on how to install kernels with hboot 1.15+. I can't link it right now on my phone, sorry.

Yes. :)

You have the latest radio firmware, that's a big draw for s-off, so no worries there.

The rom's homethread at XDA will have full flashing instructions, and the basics on that are the same for everyone. We can answer your installation (flashing) questions.

HTCdev unlock will wipe your phone, same as a factory data reset. If you want to backup what you can first, MyBackup Pro and SMS Backup+ are your best bets.

Your steps -

0. Backup
1. Unlock
2. Install TRWP
3. Use TRWP to flash the rom
4. Enjoy! :)

Sounds like buzzwords, but actually easy.

PS - Some roms do flash the kernel through recovery.

Any rom using the stock kernel, AH already has and doesn't need to worry about. ;)

Unfortunately I installed the OTA with JB, and not happy with the results. Is there a method available to root after installing the ota with JB??

[My original HTC EVO was rooted.]
