Root Odin (Return phone to Stock/Factory)

I'm curious about memory with these stock GB roms. Currently running CM7 with no sd ext whatever and have scads of available memory. If I load one of these stock GB roms am I gonna have the same memory limits as with stock froyo?

It will have similar limits. Maybe less if GB has grown any from froyo

Thanks for the reply, guess I'll stick with Hroark's cm7. No way I wanna go back to loading 4 or 5 apps and then have messaging telling me unable to load message out of memory.

what many of us do is use CWM5 to partition our sdcard, then install an a2sd mod. in my case, I can install something like 4 gigs of apps now before I run out of space :)

I may give the a2sd mod a shot when I don't have to stand on my head and hold my mouth just right while booting to get mounted and all that. For now CM7 does all I need and appears to have a much better quadrant score than the stock GB.

I've tried that but everytime I use the parition tool in CW5 it creates an EXT3 partition which isn't supported on many roms. It's either EXT2 or EXT4. I wish the darn CW5 would give you the option as to what format you wanted.

you could always take that ext3 partition and convert it to ext4.

I think one of the easiest ways to do that would be to take an existing CWM flash-able zip and strip out everything but the stuff in META-INF.
then change the updater-script to only have the line:

format("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2");

pack the META-INF folder into a new zip file using 7zip and install that using CWM.

I believe that would reformat the extended partition on your sdcard from ext3 to ext4

Having some issues with Odin, it seems not to be connecting to the right port. I recently have done a fresh install of my OS, WinXP sp3, where before I didn't have this problem. I was not able to take the update to GB through the phone, and now I cannot finish my mods I have been working on. I have had this problem since the release of GB, no luck using google or other forums. I've changed the port several times with this the code from Odin says it cannot open USB serial port, with the codes 32. 5. and often code 2.

I have tried multiple versions, 3 of the latest I know for sure.

Any and all information on the subject is well appreciated, or anykind of help. Thanks, friends.

you are suppose to use the version of Odin that is supplied with the image, if you use a different version you will probably brick your phone

follow the directions in the first post, if that dont work
different usb port
different computer
different usb cable

I was previously rooted by using KMS and updated GB straight by using the Odin GB this morning instead of reverting to stock, updating, etc. Had the Google Auth error that I fixed by using the comments above and now I have Xfinity Mobile app popping up every few minutes. I deleted it and it is still doing it. I'm a noob so I have no clue why its doing it but it has to stop before I kill the phone...lol!

Ok...doing this mostly when the link2sd app is going. Xfinity app is not in any list and still popping up...help!

Still no luck, sir. I have reinstalled the drivers

I have used a different cable, no luck.

Using another computer is a rough situation in this part of the woods. lol
I have my other computer, that has been refreshed the same as this one. So it does the same.

Since other versions of the Odin installer will brick my phone, I'm certainly glad the process wasn't working right, thanks for that information.

So in order to install new GB update I need to use instructions at the beginning of this thread to return to stock , correct? Than I would just root again after GB installed? If I am backed up on Titanium will that still restore everything once I root again?

Thanks for the help

Still being baffled by this, I've sworn not to move until its fixed. lol I want GB! dammit! lol

Just to be clear, the COM mapping box shows the COM for the driver right?

It simply says " Cannot open USB serial port".. I have no ideas about the Odin error codes, what do they mean? code: 32, 5, and 2

Are there any answers? lol Am I forbidded from adopting GB?..
I really don't want to further anykind of modding until I can fix this.. If I were to brick, I'd be screwed. with no way out.

are you in download mode when doing this?

try pulling battery and sdcard out of phone

Yep, in Download mode.

In Odin as we speak, going...... good, actually! haha You the MAN Hroark! I cannot believe it was so simple as to pulling the SD out..
:D

Also, very sorry to take you away from your work, I know you're busy. I do appreciate every little thing you and the team have given us.. I was inspired to pick us android devices as another hobby. Thank you Sir.

So I flashed the Chin Checka GB rooted package, which worked fine but now I don't have cell service. Anyone else have this issue? I'm going to try Koumajutsu's now (downloading it now) and see if the stock GB is any different.

Same results with the Kouma package. I'm going to try reverting to stock ee14 and taking the ota update.

may just be a coincidence, I used Chin Cheka wihout losing cell service although I had other mnor problems with Market, etc that were easy to fix.

The Chin Cheka may have afew problems but it does come in rooted which saves time. CWM apparently did not stick probably because I did not run the stick zip, but I installed it from the separate zip and ran the stick.

Going back to Stock ED13. geting the EE14 OTA and then getting the GB OTA is the cleanest way to do it, but probably pretty time consuming.

Well this is kind of weird and now I'm a little nervous. Now my phone is stuck "Searching for Service", doesn't matter if I go back to ee14/13 tried them all. Anyone have any suggestions?

I tried restoring my nandroid backup that I made before all of this and i'm still not getting no service. I'm wondering if maybe boost is having an outage in my area, seems weird because it was working before I flashed to the GB rooted image.

Odin to my stock ED13 all three tar files

then try to dial on phone

##72786#

or

##786#

it will ask for your MSL number that you should have

i dont know if this will work, but it might

When I do the ##72786# and enter my MSL number it prompts "SCRTN is change to factory default value of DSA" and has a "Yes" and "No" button. If I hit Yes it reboots the phone and boots back up in airplane mode, turning off airplane mode still shows no service. Doing the ##786# shows me a menu that says "RTN" at the top and has a "View" and "Reset" button, view shows the wrong phone # but i think it was like that before if I remember, i was in this menu a long time ago.
