Root Odin (Return phone to Stock/Factory)

OK so i rooted my phone a month ago using shabbys root then i tried to update to 2.3 ota and got patch check system app poynt installation aborted so i returned phone to stock using odin it wiped the phone to factory prompted for update to 2.3 re installed apps I deleted but now i keep getting cache error with some numbers and letters installation aborted will cacherfs.zip work to fix that and if it will do i use odin to flash it? please help

Shabby's root is only 2 weeks old.

But in regards to your question, cacherfs is for use with CWM.

It could fix it. it will correct the cache partition to RFS and format it, which in all likelyhood is the cause of your problem. But if it's something else, it wont change. It wont hurt though

If you still have the factory recovery menu instead of CWM, a factory reset in there will fix the cache partition

I know exactly what that means

it means your kernel image is not matching what the update is looking for.

You should just Odin in a Gingerbread image and discard the update zip

Or odin in ED13 stock and take the OTA update to EE14 and then OTA update to EJ06

so if i just use odin and run this
DOWNLOAD EJ06 Gingerbread Rooted Image with CWM5 made by Chin Checka
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
then i will be updated to gingerbread and rooted?

im a noob how do i put stick.zip on sd card and should i install cwm before doing gingerbread

you have 2 options.
your phone came with an SDcard adapter. put the sdcard in that and plug it into a card reader.

or using your USB cable, plug your phone into your computer. You will get a notification that USB is connected, from that you can choose to turn on USB storage. That will treat your phone like a USB card adapter.

I wont give you a tutorial on Windows Explorer :)

Make sure you don't unzip the stick.zip when you put it on your card . Add it just like ya got it . Also !!!! As soon as you install CWM5 and it starts to reboot , press volume up and power at the same time and it will take you in to CWM so you can install the stick.zip . This is the most important part of the instructions because it will not take unless you press those buttons as soon as it reboots . READ , READ , READ . :D

I installed CWM5 after I Odined the rooted GingerBread version .

the run as admin thing worked but it didnt restore anything still shabby mod
After a quick search and reading in a few other forums...most seemed to think code 32 had to do with not having admin rights on your computer. Make sure you have admin rights. Also some others had a problem with a program "Samsung Kies" running at the same time...If youre using Kies you may have to kill that first. If not and If you have admin rights, and have tried other usb ports...perhaps try restarting your computer or try it on another computer. Hope that helps.

i finally did it my orginal was ed13 i didnt no that u need to do original i thought it was the fireware you whee on now thanks alot
well you obviosly have the right drivers since you have shabbymod and have the zip since youre running odin...so onto step 3 from the OP. did you put your phone into download mode first...and afterward plug in your phone?

1. Download and unzip the file.
2. Install the Samsung USB drivers (if you dont have them already)
3. From a powered off phone, put phone in Download Mode by holding Vol down, Camera Button, and Power button until the Yellow Downloading message appears
4. Plug phone into USB port
5. Open Odin, you should see a yellow box with a com number
6. Select SPHM820.ops file and the PHONE.tar, and PDA.tar in the appropriate Boxes
7. Click Start

What was the issue that you discovered and how did you correct it? I have a friend who has this device and updated to Gingerbread today and he is also having the Market issue.
Hey sorry it took a bit to reply actually what i did was go into settings/applications/manage applications/market and cleared cache and data then to market updater and cleared data and cache then rebooted and was good to go with downloading apps and the google talk authentication fail notification disappeared. It was a good thing :D

Could someone please upload this to a site that lets us resume downloads? Or either a torrent site. My LG Chocolate Touch while tethered only lets me download for 15 minutes and then stops the tethering automatically. That being said, downloading from megaupload (which doesnt allow resume) the file will literally never finish. Thanks guys.

I tried using ODIN to upgrade to gingerbread. Every time I keep getting the message "google talk authentication failed" and cannot download anything from market. Any suggestions?

I'm re posting this from another thread. I probably should have put it here first.

Before I finally found this thread, I was having all kinds of problems getting Gingerbread on my rooted Prevail with Sabbymod. I finally got right last night using the links in the Odin thread. Huge help! I used the EJ06 Gingerbread Stock Image made by Koumajutsu and EJ06 Gingerbread Rooted Image with CWM5 made by Chin Checka links, and things are ALMOST perfect.

I've lost access to some apps. Most notably, it seems I no longer have access the Android Market, or Google Maps. If I go to the market on my computer to try to download Maps again, it says it's already installed. Does anyone know what's going on here? I use Maps a LOT, and it's a royal pain to not have it.

One more question. Sorry if it's already been answered, but I have trouble with the search function here for some reason. Now that I have Gingerbread and am rooted, is there a working ShabbyMod version for it yet? I was really digging it when I had it.

Edit: I currently have Android 2.3.5, Baseband S:M820.07 xEj0j, Kernel 2.6.35.7

I wanted to keep the main installation file as close as it could be from what comes out of the compile process, this may help with getting this port to be Official status.

I also wanted to provide people the ability to only add what they want, and customize it to their preferences

Essential Apps

Google Apps, contains the market and useful apps made by Google, I was having trouble with the packages I have found on the internet, so I created a new one.

how do I go about getting this on my phone? I downloaded and unzipped the file to my computer, but I can't figure out how to get in on my phone. Is it similar to what I did with the Odin Ej06 files?

No sir...you use clockwork mod to update. Follow these directions & dont forget to thank the devs found here:http://androidforums.com/galaxy-pre...file-system-recovery-utility.html#post3046107

ClockWorkMod v5.0.2.6 for Samsung Prevail SPH-M820 by Hroark

Install CWM Update
1. Download and unzip the gapps-gb-20110815.zip
2. Copy the gapps-gb-20110815.zip to your SD Card
3. From a powered off phone put phone into CWM Recovery Mode by holding Volume Up, and Power button until you are in the CWM-based Recovery Menu. If youre using cyanogen mod you can reboot into recovery.
4. In CWM-based Recovery go into install zip from sdcard
5. select choose zip from sdcard
6. select gapps-gb-20110815.zip
7. select Yes - Install gapps-gb-20110815.zip
8. After it is done installing Press back button
9. Select Reboot System Now
Also, because you said you unzipped it, make sure you put the original ZIPPED file on your sd card. To navigate in Clockwork Mod use Vol up & Vol down button to highlight selection. Camera button to select / confirm. Back arrow to go back.

Hey guys, I heard that Boost released a Gingerbread OTA update, but unfortunately I was running a rooted phone thus the OTA update wasn't for me...according to another thread on this forum. Said thread directed me here to "flash" EJ06 Gingerbread via Odin. After following the above directions to the letter my phone re-booted. Everything seemed to be working properly until I noticed that the phone was in Airplane mode. I turned off airplane mode and my voice service has been restored but unfortunately my data isn't coming up at all. The 3G icon came up for a short time but none of my applications could access the internet (ie. market, browser, gmail, etc...). Additionally, I keep loosing service randomly...before service in my area was great, but now my signal will drop to nil, I get the "x" in the signal strength icon and shortly thereafter I get service agian-this all happens in a matter of ten seconds or so and at ramdom intervals. Did I do something wrong? When I used Odin to flash, I didn't include the "boot" file because my phone wasn't "bricked" and the above noted instructions mentioned that it wasn't necessary if the phone wasn't in bad shape to begin with... If anyone has any insight and/or solutions, they would be greatly appreciated! I thank you so very much for your time and attention.

Thanks for the response... I just re-flashed EJ06 w/ Odin-this time I included the "boot" with the phone, pda, and ops. My phone is showing the "3G" symbol signaling data is avail. but when I attempt to load a web page w/ the browser or market. Should I try to flash a non-rooted Gingerbread and then root it via the Shabby method? Thanks again for your time and attention ya'll.... Wish me luck! lol
