yeah titanium backup comes in handy wen your in a bind.. im glad you got everything
running ok.. if you run into any more problems just pick a thread and ask away..
an also welcome to AF..

Just wanted to throw this out there for those of you who actually read the thread before posting a question.
This is the process I took to root from stock EE14 to GB-CWM-CTMOD

*READ, READ, READ, READ, READ. Dont make these Devs answer the same question twice when all you have to do is READ.

*Epic failure using One click method on EE14

*Odined my EE14 Prevail with Shabby's .9 and used Titanium for backups
(FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS on the first page of THIS thread, worked first time no problem)

*updated to GB STOCK (may not be necessary but I wanted to be safe) using ODIN. image made by Koumajutsu. No problems, again, READ AND FOLLOW DIRECTIONS.

*ODINed from stock to Rooted GB with SPHM820_EJ06-CWM5-Rooted-rfsCache. Went through with no problems. Because I READ the thread FIRST.
-Thanks to Chin Check for making it the images, Hroark13 for CWM5 and whoever is responsible for rfsCache.

Then I followed the directions on Hroarks CWM2.1 (directions on for CWM are on that thread) which can also be found by using the search bar at the top of every page.

*Next searched and found the CTMOD2.1 thread on THIS website thanks to Bloodawn for that. Flashed the mod using Hroarks CWM, went through no problem.

Now I have the fastest android I have ever owned. This was all because of these great devs and because I READ instead of asking the same question that was just answered two pages back (sometimes even two posts back).
* READ first then READ again and READ some more and then ask for help, everyone here is more than willing to help, but lets leave these guys to what their good at, building us some new kick/ss stuff.
Thanks to EVERYONE who has had a hand in rooting and troubleshooting the prevail.

Hey omerta365,
just a quick question. Did you do a data wipe/factory reset at any time during these steps you used? If so at what point did you do it? Thanks in advanced.

Please forgive my absolute Noobness here. I have always enjoyed playing with the android phones, but now that I own one, I am always trying to learn more and more.

I was searching for removing some of the bloated installs on my phone and found this thread through google. What caught my eye was that in order to remove these items i would have to root my phone.. Some thing I have only begin learning about.

It appears from the video you provided, and the information in the OP that this process is not something that is overly difficult, as long as one follows directions of course.

So my question. I understand this was originally for those whos phones were not working. However would this Gingerbread rooted image work for me?

I dont want to break the phone lol, but with its limited memory i also dont want it full of needless apps that im blocked from removing. for example "hookt" i dont need to use hookt, im married and already hookt. lol

Again I do apologize for the clear noob factor, But felt rather then post some where else, I should post here as yall are the ones familiar with the item I think sounds like what im looking for.

If i really am in the wrong place, please fell free to help me and out point me to the right place. lol

yes, it would work to upgrade/downgrade a phone.
I think it's actually a bit faster than the OTA upgrade. it takes about 2min40 sec to odin all 3 tars into a prevail.

Welcome droidjj. As stated above this will work for you. I had a perfevtly good working phone and used ODIN to get root and CWM while on froyo. then after GB came out I used ODIN to swap from a perfectly good working Froyo setup to the GB rooted setup. Works like a charm, is ultra fast, and you can get Root, CWM, Kouma kernel, etc all with a few clicks withen a few minutes

Hi, I am prepared to update my prevail but I can't seem to download the EJ06 Gingerbread rooted. Now I don't know if its just me but i start the download and after downloading around 10 MB it freezes... If anyone could help, thnx

Sorry if this is a dumb question and I dont mean to offend, but I want to make sure that you are downloading it to your COMPUTER right? You dont download the file to your phone. I just wanna make sure of that :)

LMFAO yes I am downloading it to my computer and I got it. NVM, stupid internet explorer wasn't working. Mozilla works fine, weird... Thnx anyway!

I have tried this a few times as instructed, from powered off phone enter into downloading mode then connect to PC and open Odin, when I do this the come area does not turn yellow with a number and doesn't even show my phone as connected. Am I missing something here?

You could be missing the samsung usb driver.
That's usually the issue if everything else is right and the phone doesn't detect.
If you need it, I think that the link for EE14 stock in the first post of this thread includes it

Another cause can be if ADB is running, check task manager and kill it if it is.

Finally, the USB cable that came with the phone can become intermittent. Try again with another cable.

Yep. I had a USB cable that quit working except to charge the phone.
It actually was the cable that came with the phone. Took me a while to even consider troubleshooting the cable since it had worked for so long.
