Root Odin (Return phone to Stock/Factory)

I installed the FA19 update here as well and started having bad issues with 3G. I went right back to EJ06 with CTMod 2.5 as I had been using and it's right back to working well again.

I noticed some slowness with 3g after installing FA19 and it continued after I reinstalled CM7. It seemed especially slow when installing apps from market.

Someone mentioned that a fix from Samsung has come out. I have not seen that yet and I ran most of yesterday on Koumas FA19 image. Maybe someone will post it.

I resisted Odining or zipping back to EJ06 because of a lack of time and general pervasive laziness.

I did take time last night to restore CM7 and it was slow too.

Today 3g seems to be faster. I have not run any speed tests, but the browser is more responsive. I Have not had to install from Market this morning.

I am using the boring Boost PRL 61007.

Maybe there were some other issues that were causing the slowness.

Anyone else notice improvement today on FA19?

I am considering switching to the non-sd-ext kernel for CM7 and just running internal for a few days with FA19.

I have reduced my day to day apps down to the point that I may not need SD card data support.

Just want to see what happens to the overall Prevail experience.

I also used Koumas FA19 image..but everything has been working great as far as i can tell..will keep an eye out

It actually looked to me like the stock FA19 was a little less bloated unless Kouma removed some. After removing what I now consider Bloat, there was plenty of available system space.

I did notice that Titanium would cause a reboot after installing apps quite often. But the app would be there after the boot.

I had a few odd situations occur on an incoming call, but I was usually doing something else at the time too.

Yesterday, I ran some benchmarks with FA19:

I haven't had any issues with fa19 at all, running ctmod 2.5 koumakernal 1.2. Using prl 60683 this is my first real day running it though

@ Wyelkins...

i noticed that too..what i did was used bloods CTMod removed GB apps list ...and removed all of the same things from the new FA19 image to trim it up some...after i did that it seemed much less laggy and responsive..ive been messing around with just stock for 2 days now..my signal is always garbage here..plus i use wifi mostly at home..could be why i havent noticed much difference yett..ill run some 3g speed test and benchmarks in a bit

After testing it for several days , I can tell that the new FA19 update is DOO DOO .

I only have 1 tower that I can connect to in my area and it's several miles away . When running the updated modem , my 3g lags and even looses signal . My phone reception seems to be about the same but it is very inconsistent , going from 96 dBm's to absolutely nothing (LOSS OF SIGNAL) .

I installed EJ06 last night and everything is back to normal . 3g is blazing fast and signal is -91 to -96 dBm's which is very good considering that I live in the stix ! LOL

I don't know what Boost did but they screwed something up . I guess that's the reason that they are redoing it .

I keep getting "cannot open the usb serial port. code: 5" when trying to use ODIN. I've tried multiple USB ports and I installed the Samsung USB drivers included with the zip file.

What can I do to open my usb ports?

Is your phone is download mode ? From a powered off phone , hold volume down and camera button at the same time . While holding both buttons press the power button . Continue holding until you see "downloading]" in yellow on the screen .

Odin should then be able to pick your phone up on a COM port .

It picks up my phone on COM 8.

1. Turn phone off.
2. Go to yellow "Downloading..." screen.
3. Plug phone into USB cable.
4. Remove SD Card and battery (for good measure).
5. Open ODIN -- detected on COM 8.
6. Load up OPS, Phone, PDA... click Start.
7. 6 seconds later, "Cannot open the usb serial port. Code: 5"

I've checked Device Manager and Samsung Android USB Device is present under USB.

i've been running the rooted with CWM FA19 update that Kouma put out.
everything has been running smooth as silk.
p.s. i've read that some people have been having reception issues with the new modem....my reception actually got better.
my .02 cents

Is there any actual benefit to switching from EJ06 over to FA19?

Can't really say.
many people are reporting connectivity issues, so probably not.
The images are there and we try to get them out ASAP for those who have trouble with the OTA updates before even the devs have a chance to identify any improvements. Also, it's nice to have something to dev mods on, and if the update is good, then the sooner you have something to work with, the better.

Ok so what is the verdict on Fa19.. You guys scared me off of putting this on my phone because I am going out of town and need my phone to work....

Has the fix already rolled out...

This is the changelog according to Samsung

Software Update (FA19) Fixes and Enhancements

I've been running the Fa19 image on CTMod 3.1.2 with KK1.2 and havn't experienced any problems with my 3g or signal, today it told me of the fa19 Bug fix update which i Ignored cause i don't know if it's gonna break my phone.

I went ahead and updated to fa19 bug fix ota... Samsung seems to have fixed the issues with it... My signal reports stronger and 3g is solid.. we will see...

Kinda a noob at this, more or lest stumbling along. I want to unroot my Samsung Precedent from Straight Talk. For some reason the mod killed the camera in it. Which oiden file do I use? So many and not sure which one to use......:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Is it possible that only people with rooted phones are getting the FA19 update notice?

I ask this because there are two identical galaxy prevail phones in my house, both on Boost Mobile. Mine is rooted, the other is not. My phone received the FA19 update notice, the other one did not (as of this post).

I did not install the update as I am leery of it and I do not want any prob's with my rooted phone. I renamed the zip file and modified the build.prop file per instructions in another post. (Replaced two occurrences of EJ06 to FA19). So far these mod's seemed to have eliminated the annoying and continuous update msg.

One note of confusion: I only renamed the .zip file to .old, but after rebooting I can not find it. It appears to have been deleted by the system or just some how hidden from view. no worries, just an observation.
