Root Odin (Return phone to Stock/Factory)

SPHM820_FE16_ROOT_CWM.zip

I tryed unzipping the file 3 time and redownloading them again. some reason it wont unzip. I even tryed to put the files on the computer and try it that way. Still no good. Is there another better link file rether then the one you guys gave me. I have the Odin downloader ready and all the updated samsung drivers installed.

Are you trying to download it using your phone as a tether?
If so, the phone might be going to sleep on you

you need the odin zip not the cwm zip.

odin zip/? Does that how it works for Odin downloader, it unzips the files when you put them in the right boxes. I know I have to turn the phone off and hold down vol plus camera
Power to use this Odin downloader. I have the odin multi downloader_v4.43. Should I use the One Package options or what options I use for this work?. Sorry for all these questions, but my first smart phone that I ever own. I just want it to able tether to my computer, thats all. Thanks.

The first post has specific instructions, and a VIDEO... Please read the instructions/watch the video in the opening post... It is a very well documented process

You need to unzip the zip containing the Odin files, and place them in the correct slots (not using the one package option)

Well yes, need it to tether. I turn off the sleep mode. Man I never though this was going to be such a big head ach. Rooting and updating. Lol Im really good windows and Mac computer, making things happen, like making games or windows 7 software work on window 98. Or making playstation games work on PC. But a smartphone? Lol im kindy lost on newer technology. Thanks

Ok then. Do you have a link to this instructions, so I dont have look for them all night?

Well I scewd up, messing that rooted version of fa16 zip. I tryed the fe16 zip that was posted on earlier. But wont unzip or work for odin. But I installed the old root file to my phone. Opps.
No worry working ok just its back to old fa19 but rooted. Does someone have Fe16 files. Or if there a better one that be great. Prevail user here. At least getting the hang out now with the odin.

Since no one likes giving direct answers these days instead of monkeying around with references or links, OP means Original Post to answer your question, pardon me if I seem a lil harsh on this but it would be nice to get a straightforward answer to a straightforward question, especially when people are trying to get stuff done...

Made for XDA, but it holds true everywhere:
You are a Noob on XDA-Developers - YouTube

one of the biggest problems we have is people looking for lists of instructions to follow through blindly without having any knowledge of what it is they are doing or even what they are trying to accomplish.

I don't know how many people I've seen have their hand held through getting apps2sd to work, or get a swap setup only to get the follow up question, "OK, now what does this do?".......

srsly, IF YOU (and by you, I mean the personal pronoun 'you' referring to the clueless individual, not you personally) DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS, YOU EITHER DON'T NEED IT, OR SHOULDN'T BE MESSING WITH IT. YOU ARE THE REASON THAT OEMS LOCK THEIR DEVICES DOWN, SPOILING IT FOR THOSE OF US WITH THE CAPACITY TO LEARN

Kouma,

The new FE16 Baseband ODIN Image reports the baseband as FA19, and the build number as FE16. I was under the impression that this was a baseband update as well. Am I mistaken?

If you want the FE16 Baseband which is the new modem of the phone, all you have to do is download the FE16 update zip file, extract the zip file to a folder, then power off your phone, hold VOLUME DOWN + CAMERA + POWER to bring up Download Mode, connect your USB Cable to your phone from computer (Assuming that you have the Samsung drivers installed already), then load up Odin Multi Downloader, click the Phone button, and select phone.tar and hit start, let it go through with flashing the file to your phone, don't interrupt it or unplug USB cable until it says RESET, after that you'll have the new modem update for FE16 on your phone at that point... :D

Ok and if you do unplug the usb before it says reset (which I did yesterday) What would cause the phone to not even power up or show any signs of life? It was taking over an hour and in the com box it said service. I followed all the directions to the t. Ive flashed a bunch of stuff with odin and also cwm for the last 8 months or so. Am I totally screwed now or what. Can you tell me my options now or if there even are any? Thanks. I was only hoping to get a better signal with the new firmware. Now I got nothing. I already kicked myself in the a$$ so take it easy on me.

it really depends on what point you unplugged the cable.
if it was during anything in the PDA.tar, you might be able to pull the battery for a couple seconds and then try again.

if it was during anything else, all bets are off, and you'll probably have to send the phone in to Samsung for repair

I found the info and registered my phone for the warranty. Im just gonna go without for a minute while they have it.

Thanks for your response Kouma. Yeah I thought that might be what I have to do. Do you have an idea what it cost? It was after 60 minutes and some seconds. Any other time Ive used odin it only takes like 5-10 minutes and I actually did it three times before it took a dump on me like that. Those other times were at the 40 minute mark. I just didnt understand why it was taking so long. Do you have the samsung info to send it in though? Thanks again

The only issue I'm having now is that my prevail keeps rebooting on it's own randomly. I've tried every version & even went back to stock for awhile but it still does it. FE16 seemed to cut it down to only once a day instead of 5 or 6 but it's still annoying. Any idea as to a fix or why it keeps wanting to reboot so much?

What's up everybody!.

I have a Galaxy prevail ( with FA19 Gingerbread Rooted with CWM5 by Koumajutsu) but now I'm getting a message about a system update, my concern is if this is safe to install. A few months ago when I bought this phone I rooted it and a couple of days later I got an update what I installed, but after that my phone didn't pass the boost logo, to repair it I used odin and the FA19 rooted image by Koumajutsu.
I read in a forum that this brick was because maybe the phone was low in memory space before the update process, but im not sure.

So I accept any comment about it.
I will appreciate too if someone can let know where I can find information to create my own image to back up the whole phone (apps and system).
Thanks.

in cwm, you can make a backup or restore backups you make. hold vol up and power button to get into it. never install any system updates by boost when rooted. this will stop updates from ever happening again, you need to get autostarts from the market first,
