***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

As someone mentioned, iPhone4 and SGS with 5MP camera produce very good quality photos from phone than most other 8MP phone cameras. Of course Charge, SGSII have 8MP sensor camera but still managed to produce high quality photos. So it's not impossible if engineered properly. But it would be increasingly difficult to work out noise/detail trade off with higher mega pixel sensor and at some point physics simply won't allow getting the same quality photos with higher mega pixels. I guess is about 10Mp and that's probably equivalent to 20Mp on small digital camera due to difference in sensor size. Unfortunately a lot of folks still don't understand this well. So there is still marketing push on mega pixels both in P&S digital cameras and phones.

I guess they probably cut down rear camera sensor megal pixels on Prime to save for other top quality features like HD screen, 1.5Ghz dual core, large memory, battery, etc. Hopefully its camera module can still produce good quality photos like SGSII, iPhone4. But notice that its front camera has 2MP mega pixels higher than most others, and that's very nice for video chatting.

Tell sis thank you for me!!!!!!!!!

Official note: let's be done with a camera talk okay? I'm preaching to myself here as well because I'm just as bad as you guys. ;)

Sorry I just posted before seeing your note. I guess now there is no need to talk more about camera sensor pixels.;)

Nexus Prime FINALLY officially announced and will go on all major networks with simple different names. . due out November 15th ! ! !

OK OK, lol relax I'm just messing with you guys. . i was for a moment considering making a long thread just to mess a bit, than at the very end ruining it all, but I decided that just a little bit was good enough. .

Well I'm glad that there is this forum made just for the Prime, so I couldn't hold back from registering.

Really can't wait any longer so I thought I'd join you guys here.

I was really waiting on the GSII but considering it got released so late into this year why not wait for the Prime. . So now I am really impatient. .like the "I'm loosing it" kind. .they just need to make an announcement already.

The GSII had their announcement at this time for the simple purpose of trying to beat others to the punch before ICS is officially out.

I think that Google should do the same with Apple, and try and release it before apple does the iphone. OR maybe they are waiting to see what apple has to offer, and see if the Prime would be good enough competition. .I say this because most of Apple's customers in "MY" opinion are not really spec readers type of people, but more of hooked on them because of looks and the UI, which is understandable. And since apple's main customers were normally business people considering their laptops, and desktops they will stick with apple all the way without ever reading any specs, or inner workings of the device, as they simply don't care as long as it looks good and has a smooth UI. .Plus owning an Ipod/Iphone/Ipad/Apple Laptop/Desktop has been the cool thing to have either to carry it around at the coffee house, or simply show it off to others. .Therefore I think the Iphone will again not have a problem selling devices no matter what its competition is. .I have used Iphones all the time as a lot of people around me have them, and I LOVE the smoothness of the UI, but I am still not really looking forward at looking to get one, , instead I am going with the Prime for personal reasons. .

and as far as UIs go, apple has a smooth UI because it uses its GPU for drawing, instead of CPU as Android uses, ,but isn't Ice Cream Sandwich suppose to use the GPU as well ? ? can somebody confirm that ? ?

I personally think that the Prime will be just as the GSII was just announced, meaning they might just have different names for different carriers. . and that's why we see a few different model numbers out there. .maybe some have been downgraded, and some have been upgraded going by whatever control the carriers might have over them, who knows.

This website shows the Roadmap of release dates for samsung . . . New Samsung roadmap leaks, this time with release info | Limitless DROID

I have never owned an Android device, and have always been a Symbian type, but after doing much research I have come to decide on the Prime.

One other question, does it bother you guys at all the the Prime might have a 5 megapixel comparing to the 8 that phones are being released at now ?

I have personally had a 5 megapixel Carl Zeiss on my Nokia for many years now, and was expecting something a bit higher. .at the same time I know that its the sensors that would matter. .but after so many years of a GREAT 5 meg camera on my phone I don't feel that this camera on the Prime would be any upgrade for me. . .Just wanted to get your thoughts on the camera part of this phone considering where other devices are at.

And this thing BETTER be on T-mobile.

I really love your opinion and you have good points. Nexus 3, prime, or whatever they call it will be on several carriers. I'm not saying this because I want it to be but it's logical. Every carrier that has it now will get the nexus 3 & so on . If anything new, Verizon will be the new carrier to the addition. The rumor Droid prime could be a separate device that may just come stock. Google is not the only one who makes stock devices. I highly doubt it will have different names or even variations when launched on several carriers. The name nexus will be part of it. The only thing to be worried about is when and will google do this in a timely manner unlike the nexus s which was late to other carriers. Once google announces ice cream it'll all become clearer. By the middle and end of this month things we be overwhelming I'm sure.

I've been texting my sister more questions, and she has confirmed that Prime is coming to Verizon, she just doesn't know when. She says that it is being referred to as "Optimus", but that's just a funny nickname more than anything. It won't be called that.

I really do think that this is the most she knows.

But one thing that is slightly discouraging, is that she says that it should release "around the holidays at the latest".

Doesn't look good for October, but it could just be a guess.

:(

Well, that's in line with what p3Droid was saying. It would still make a great Black Friday purchase; although I don't like the idea of stringing this poor OG Droid out another month than planned... but I will for THIS phone!

Right, that does sync with P3Droid and black_man_x. . . And it does make sense that Verizon wouldn't sell iPhone 5 and Prime in the same month, both being super-phones and all. . . .but still.

Oh well. My OG Droid is still running great. Almost like it doesn't want to be killed.

Oh well. My OG Droid is still running great. Almost like it doesn't want to be killed.

Mine is on its last legs, electronically. Physically, it looks as good as the day I bought it- gold camera button and all. My plan is to retire her with dignity back into the original box and put her away somewhere safe. I want to be able to show my future grandkids the phone that started the Android revolution.

Yeah I know: Droid wasn't the first Android phone. But it WAS the one that put Android on the map and started making Apple sweat. And they're STILL sweating.

So I guess September will be Bionic month, October will be iPhone5 and November will be Prime month. Not sure where Vigor, Revo 2 can fit in there...

I'm eligible for my last 12 month upgrade right now. My Droid2 is... having problems. I reallly want to wait for the Prime though, so I'm going to try and get my Droid2 replaced now (it's warrantied), so I have a use-able phone so I can wait for the Prime. :) I'm glad I waited, I almost caved last week and bought a new phone, but the Prime will totally be worth the wait, I think.

I can wait.

Regarding folks making camera comments after my request to stop: I understand that in an epic thread like this, it usually takes a few post to slow down the locomotive. 'Tsokay. You guys are doing great and I'm proud to be part of thread with has the potential to make a mark on the android world. :)

For those worried about megapixels on the camera. That is a much overhyped and not true myth regarding the size of pictures you can print and the number of pixels the camera has. If a 5 MP camera has a better sensor than an 8 MP camera, guess which one is going to take better pictures?

Bluefire, please don't take this the wrong way...I really appreciate the info you and your sister share. I'm wondering what type of position she has with VZ. As you are aware, more than a few VZW employees know less about their phones than we do. Again, all due respect! :-)

No problem. I offer whatever "insights" I get with a "For what it's worth" type of a vibe, and I admit that she hasn't shed any more light on this whole thing than what we already know. Of course, I can't say specifically where she works or what she does, but I can say she works in a corporate position with an emphasis on customer support, not development. I can also say that she is not involved in any "closed-door" meetings or is privy to highly sensitive information that only a select few know about. She does work, however, in a position where a lot of "hearsay" regarding sensitive information trickles down. And she also happens to work for Verizon in a city that was recently rained quite heavily upon, if you get my drift.

The only thing that makes me accord some weight to what she says is because she apparently told my wife that the iPhone was going to release in about two or three weeks, before the iPhone was officially announced as releasing in February.

Up to this point, like I've said, she hasn't contributed much info at all, except she did say that the Prime is coming. I don't feel comfortable asking her HOW she knows, since I'd be tempted to blab about it and she might get in trouble.

Awesome, Blue. Thanks. I get the sensitive nature of the situation, and I put a good deal of weight on her intell. Thanks again for sharing...silly as it is...the info is like "fresh air in our cyber lungs".

I claim it today. The Prime shall be mine and I shall use it over VZW's LTE network. Its coming and we will own it......

YESSSSSSS!

I've changed my mind about the name. I'm leaning toward it actually having a different name one every network. While I don't think this was done with previous Nexus phones, the mention of it being exclusive to Verizon doesn't make sense. In the US, our carriers screw us with the name game. In other countries, they go by the model number 99% of the time. Take for example the Samsung Galaxy S. Four exclusives on four networks.

Samsung Epic (Sprint)
Samsung Captivate (AT&T)
Samsung Fascinate (Verizon)
Samsung Vibrant (T-Mobile)
Samsung Galaxy S (T-Mobile, 4G release)
Samsung Galaxy S US Cellular

So currently I'm more inclined to believe it will be the Droid Prime on Verizon.

In regards to the camera mega pixel conversation, there are a lot of factors that go into it. The mega pixels versus photo size is not a myth. The more mega pixels you have, the large the photo you can print. It is a guide line to get photo's of comparable quality to that of an analog 35mm camera. That isn't to say that you can't take crappy photos at higher resolution because you can. You can take crummy photos with a 35 mm too. With regards to digital photography, there is a lot more to consider. Odds are you will get better photo's easier with a 5 mp camera phone than an 8 mp one if you take the photos at its ax resolution for the device. It takes more processing and time to handle that 8 mp photo. Any delays due to f-spot and shutter speeds can affect that photo. You may get better results downgrading the quality of your photo with an 8 mp camera. Will it be enough to be equal or better than that of a great quality 5 mp? Who knows? You have to take it device by device. In summary, what I'm trying to say is that the number of mega pixels in digital photography is not myth or a scam. It is directly related to how much information you can store so more is better but you have to weight this versus several other factors as it is not the only thing that matters.

We love your sister. I'm going to knit her an afghan. What are her colors??

I actually don't know!

On another note, I think Apple is starting to portray itself like some crazy ex-girlfriend who tries too hard to get your attention when she sees you with someone new.

One day after the SGSII is released to the States, Apple claims it lost another iPhone prototype in another bar. Then the SFPD says it's not true. Now Apple is accusing of impersonating a police officer?

This is doing more damage to Apple's image than any other phone could possibly do.

What an embarrassment.

They will do anything to steal the thunder of the Android invasion. This borders on desperation.

It's OK Apple, people still love your product and will buy it. You don't need to do desperate things to stay in the news. You're iPhone 5 will do GREAT...I promise

Once Ice cream sandwich is running most high end android devices (phones/tablets) next year, I think android will steal even more pie from Apple. I guess Prime will be the beginning of that.

Guys, I have to admit that I'm pretty jealous of the Bionic people, getting their phones in less than a week.

I've said on there that I will walk into Verizon and take a look at it, and I probably will, but what if I like it???

Prime is obviously the better of the two, but the one that you can have NOW is sometimes much more tempting than the better one you can have LATER.

:(
