You think Apple keeps losing phones in bars and pulling stunts like this to stay relevant in a world that is increasingly dominated by Android?

California Man Claims Home Was Searched For Prototype IPhone By People Impersonating Officers | FoxNews.com

Apparently they have their own "secret police" now!

Android manufacturers should learn a thing or two from Apple about marketing their products. Every time they're going to introduce a new product they need to take it out of the local bar and lose it, call the media and sit back and laugh. No budgets at all just deny everything and send the police after them. I can see the headline now" Google loses revolutionary new Nexus prime" .What's even more amazing is that all the Apple fan boys get on TV and profess that Apple would never do anything like this on purpose. Lord help us!

Today, on Black_man_x's twitter:

Apparently regarding ICS:

Final software almost ready n shipping to hardware partners. Code monkeys get work done..
And earlier, a user named Tommmy_29, referring to passing up the Bionic in favor of waiting for Prime:

@black_man_x its going to take all my will power to pass on the bionic.
And black_man_x's response:

lol doubt it.. but wont be out by much of a lead..
So, if ICS is shipping out to hardware partners soon (Samsung), it should be polished and ready to go.

I'm not sure what he meant by the "won't be out by much of a lead", but it sounds like the Prime won't be too late coming to the party.

Let's see: Droid 3 came out mid-July, Droid Bionic early September... so my best SWAG here is Droid Prime on Thursday, October 20th at best, and November 10th latest. The iPhone 5 is coming fast (IF they can stop losing the things in bars  ) and Google/Samsung wants to beat it to the punch so they can grab as many OG Droiders - coming off contract in a hurry - as possible.

What say you?

@bluefire; I've looked at both twitter feeds and I do believe black_man_x was referring to the wait not being long on the Vigor, not the Prime. I would cut and paste but I don't have the time at the moment.

Taking what @chief said about recent release scheduling, it looks like it will be Bionic, then Vigor in October, then Prime in November.

It's kind of hard to tell. . ."Tommy" keeps referring to both Vigor and Prime. Although black_man_x does refer to knowing both release dates, and that the Vigor will release first.

I agree with your general idea of a release schedule. It's still not terrible.

:(

Well, THAT kinda sucks raw eggs... I forgot about the Vigor (yet another phone I'm not interested in). Okay, maybe November. But that's really, really pushing the life span of my poor Droid.

Some research revealed that recent first day sales of new iPhone models, such as the Verizon iPhone back in February and the iPhone 4 on AT&T June 2010 were high. I would assume the rumored iPhone 5 will have considerable demand. And I would also assume that Samsung knows it needs to get the Prime to market as soon as it can. Some people may not want to wait for a Prime. Samsung needs to get the Prime out before the iPhone 5 makes it debut, or very shortly thereafter - maybe within two or three weeks - or risk losing sales to the iPhone. Just my opinion.

I'd wait until December for the Prime if I had to. Time is a wicked drug if you let it get to you. I go about life and when it's time, it's time. The wait will be WELL worth it.

Sure we will have to endure everyone getting their shiny new handsets but beleive this, when the Prime is announced we will be sitting like kings. This thing will be a beast and our patience will pay off ten fold.

The newness wears off real quick when the barrage of new handsets start leaking, then comes the regret. I've seen it time and time again. The young lions get wild eyed and crazy when they see food and don't know how to handle themselves :)

They end up killing a 180 lb Thompsons Gazelle and remain hungry while the older more experienced lay in wait and ambush the 2000 lb Water Buffalo and have a feast.

I've got my eye on the Water Buffalo who wants to hunt with me?

One of the most fun experiences with new tech (phone) is waiting for it. :)

Yes sir i agree....especially when you have waited for what seems like years for that "perfect" phone to come out. I cannot stress enough of how I have not been this excited for a handset release since October of 09. Thats an eternity in tech years : )

Ha ha.....I've got the "older, wiser(hopefully)" down! Great analogy!

Maybe somebody already saw this today.....over at BGR.....their "source" says pre-sales for the i5 could be starting this week....with the phone arriving the first of October.....so shouldn't our BIG LUCIOUS WATER BUFFALO come NOW????

I'm practicing my hunt with the Droid Bionic Arena app. Chance to win a TV, Laptop, Tablet, or Quadcoptor.

Your story reminds me of another.

Two Bulls are standing at the top of a hill looking at several cows grazing in the meadow below them. One bull says to the other: "Hey dad, Let's run down this hill and screw one of those cows." The father replied: "You go ahead son. I'd rather walk down the hill and screw them all."

Good things come to those who wait. :p

Man, I hope Verizon didn't put up the BIONIC to compete head-to-head with the iPhone 5! We have got to get Prime in a position to take that device head on and win. Now Google and Samsung's gonna be under some serious pressure. I fear, though, that they still have wifi cert and FCC approval to go through, as well as final production and distribution to retailers. It's a dream to have the Prime on Verizon October 6th, but I'm still thinking the 20th at the earliest.

Tell me about it. My droid is on it's last CM 7.1 legs. I have like 30MB of ram free. Can't multi-task...it's killing me.

Must resist bionic...must resist...

Fear not, Joe: We here at Primers Anonymous are your support group. You must resist the Bionic! Try this mantra:

"SuperAMOLED HD... SuperAMOLED HD... SuperAMOLED HD..."

We're here for ya, pal :)

Bionic is not a 2 year phone. Its a 3 month wish I would have waited to get_insert other device here_phone.....Prime is EASILY a 2 year phone. Chew on that for a bit ;)

I am excited and am also waiting for the Droid Prime, "not Nexus Prime". But, I just remember what disappointments the Nexus One and the Nexus S were. I remember all the hype surrounding the Nexus One which was the first phone to get Froyo, but the phone itself was very mediocre. Then, they released the Nexus S which was a step in the right direction. Still, it was not a great phone (which showed, because it failed to sell). I can't help to have a fair bit of skepticism regarding the Droid Prime. Sure, Samsung is making it. But they also made the dissapointing Nexus S. I have to wait for the leaked specs to make any long term commitment to wait for this phone. I may cave to the Droid Bionic, even though it's not nearly as customizable as what the Droid Prime will be, not to mention the vast differences in screen quality.

I understand your concern, but I don't think there much to worry on Droid Prime. Nexus S actually sold better than Nexus One because it was available as subsidized pricing on multiple carriers unlike Nexus One. If verizon got Nexus S, I am sure it would have done even better than Fascinate. When I played with Nexus S, it felt much smoother and fluid moving despite having essentially the same hardware as Fascinate. I think the major reason that held it back from greater success is not so competitive hardware (no dual core, no 4G, etc).

But Droid Prime would be different story. It will pack top notch hardware components at the time it launches as well as marketing push from Google, Samsung, Verizon. This never happened with previous Nexus phones.

Even if you "cave" to the Bionic, the advantage of doing so when Prime drops is a likely price reduction on Bionic. Not to mention that you'll have full awareness of the bugs... er, "undocumented features"... that Bionic was released with.

Not that Motorola EVER releases a phone with BUGS

The Nexus S did terribly, even when it was the first Gingerbread device. Doing better than the Nexus One is not much of an accomplishment. I disagree with your statement that it would have sold more than the Fascinate if it was on Verizon; it is essentially the same specs as the Fascinate, but cost more. It was released only 3 months after the Vibrant, but the Vibrant dominated the sales market. Google has not released sales data regarding their phones (I suspect because they are so low).

I do hope they release the specs soon. I would really like to have the feeling of knowing you have the newest tech. Europe and Asia have always gotten the newest phones well in advance of the US.

Well, if you looked at Fascinate forum late last year and early this year, there were a lot of upset Fascinate users about their too slow updates on Froyo. Nexus S launched with Gingerbread release and was always first in gingerbread updates and had 199 pricing on two years contract. However Fascinate was plagued with RFS files, old Touchwiz and Bing, not to mention slow updates. Plus it has pathetic 2Gb of internal memory vs 16Gb plenty on Nexus S. Many fascinate users here said they would jump onto Nexus S if verizon had it. Nexus S was only available on T-mobile for first several months, and that was holding it back on better sales.

They need to market the Nexus/Prime more aggresively. There is a general lack of advertising dollars that have went into the Nexus One but picked up somewhat with the Nexus S.

If Verizon gets behind it and spends some advertising dollars on it it can be a HUGE success. It's got the potential to be their hottest seller (Android) if they do it right.

That screen in and of itself will be A HUGE draw. People have not seen the likes of that yet. They are sitting on so much potential lets see what they do with it
