***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I'm actually pretty happy it's later. I'm already upgrade eligible, but my husband isn't til 11/30. I'm hoping we may be able to get a deal if we both get phone at once. If it came out too much before that I don't think I'd be able to wait. ;)

I'm kind of in the same boat in the sense of not minding the later release. I don't want to put it on my credit card or on my Verizon phone bill. I had money saved up for the Bionic, but when I found out about Prime coming to Verizon, I blew it all on a really great weekend with the wife in Chicago downtown. I didn't want to have that money lying around and be tempted to jump on the Bionic ship.

So I'm starting from square one. After bills, play money with my wife, savings account deposit, and other necessary things, my Prime money will grow in small increments. I think I'm at $28 right now, lol.

I'll most likely be back to where I need to be when it finally releases.

In making the rounds the Bionic is disappointing lots of users. And some are happy.

I read multiple complaints from the new owners ("Paying to be Beta Testers of the Bionic") on each of the following:

  • Pixelated looking display.
  • The camera not being an improvement.
  • Data disconnects when going from 3 to 4G. Some say data will not work in 3G only areas. Tech support at Verizon and they said this is an issue that Motorola will fix in NOVEMBER!
  • Market downloads report not enough storage space, after multiple attempts it finally works.
  • Clicking noises when using Netflix.
  • Separate mail account notification functionality was REMOVED from email client. Bionic does not support individual notifications on a per-account-basis.
  • com.motorola.service.main stopped after corporate sync account is added.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

You've got to be kidding... I mean, I always wait a couple of weeks to see how the device will do with the reviews but seriously? That's not funny.

I'm pretty sure the kinks are still being worked out with EVDO/LTE handoffs. I have the same problem with the Charge. Something like this might be fixed in the radio firmware eventually.

What is ironic here is that we can't say that data handoffs have never been an issue in the past with Verizon since they've had blanket 3G coverage for awhile. I mean, 1X to EVDO doesn't necessarily happen often unless you're on the fringe of service. And let's face it, 1X is virtually being disconnected from data, anyway. :p

Camera is not surprising given their mediocre record with it. Even Moto fans admit it. Screen is, well, as expected. And you may need to add call volume issue to that list as well. Some are complaining it's not as loud as other LTE phones, hard to hear in noisy outdoors.

I think it's too early to tell which is persistent and common issue in Bionic. Hope Prime doesn't suffer as bad at first. Pretty sure screen, camera, processor speed will be better though.

Guess I spoke to soon about the toughness of my DX :(

Dropped it flat on its face today and now I have a crack going straight across the middle...hope it makes it long enough for Prime to come out.

Apparently the Vigor passed through the FCC this morning and is confirmed LTE. So it is LTE, 1.5 Dual Processor, HD Screen and 2 hour battery life.

HTC is holding an announcement on September 20. Looks like the October 6 release of the Vigor will be legit after all. http://www.bgr.com/2011/09/09/htc-to-hold-nyc-press-event-on-september-20th-new-devices-in-store/

With LTE and an HD screen, I will be tempted, I'm not going to lie. Hopefully by the time it releases we will have some blurry pics and/or FCC documents for the Prime.

Me too. I like sense ui. However, my dx is becoming a modding paradise with cm4GB. I'm in no hurry.

Sifting through the FCC details.

LTE, definitely. And simultaneous voice/data on both 3G and LTE.

But the biggest thing is that it has a 1280x800 screen.

I think that's the same resolution as the Note. Sheesh.

Sheesh, in this case, is a good thing. :p

The battery is listed in the FCC as 1620mAh.. better than the TBolt's 1400 mAh, worse than the Bionic's 1735mAh.

The SVDO also probably confirms a platform similar to the TBolt, that is Snapdragon (MSM8660 probably) plus MDM9600.. if that's the case, its rocking the Adreno 220, which is at least 2x faster than any single core Snapdragon (Adreno 205)..

The Bionic is going to be obsolete a lot faster than anyone wants to admit..

Specs are sounding good for this device.

While on the subject of batteries, Yoda's claim of 15+ hours of battery life with 4G and everything else on turned out to be total garbage. The reviews and comments on the Bionic forums are saying roughly 4 to 6 hours with heavy usage.

The HTC Vigor will be even worse. I can't imagine that the Prime will be a TON better. Say they come out with an 1850 mAh battery. That would probably result in another couple of hours of heavy usage. (6 - 8 hours?).

Having said that, with work and normal life, no one is really going to be using a phone that heavily for so long, so I'm not too worried about it. So Vigor or Prime for me. Preferably Prime, of course.

But that screen resolution is nice and I've heard good things about the Incredible line's screens, so HTC probably isn't as bad as Motorola in that department.

The thing that is beating out the Vigor in my mind is that the Prime will have a slightly bigger screen than the Vigor's 4.3". But I'll take a good look at it anyway.

Ouch, that's really bad to hear >_<. Is it still usable? Is the glass crack or the screen itself?

The real improvement will come with the Krait core Snapdragons (the MSM8960 includes an LTE radio in the SOC) or a something that integrates directly to a MDM9600 (eg: Exynos/OMAP + MDM9600)

I don't think the 4.6" of the Prime is much more usable space, since i think the small bump in screen is just to accomodate the soft buttons.. the diagonal of the entire glass front of a 4.3" screen is about 4.6"

Interesting. Given that Krait won't come until at least Q1 next year (if that soon), I know I won't be waiting for it. But how does a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor compare to a 1.5 GHz OMAP4? I'm pretty curious about that.

Also, you're right about the capacitive buttons, but I think those might go away when e-reading, watching a movie, or surfing the web. I still think the 4.5 or 4.6 inch screen would be an upgrade. I just don't know how much of one, in a real-world sense. Will 0.2" more screen space really enhance movie watching? Hmm. I think I'm more interested in screen quality than screen size.

Vigor's rumored screen specs are amazing. I'll have to compare it with something with a Super AMOLED + display to compare colors.

I hate this. You get locked on one phone, and then another one comes and shakes its pretty little screen at you. Will it never end?! :(

The current Snapdragons are Scorpion core, Cortex-A8.. and kind of underwhelming vs. the current Cortex-A9 chips (OMAP, Tegra2).

Krait is Cortex-A15 based.. like OMAP5

Exclusive : ARM Cortex-A15 "40 Per Cent" Faster Than Cortex-A9 | ITProPortal.com

Rough numbers from this article:
Cortex-A8: 2.0MIPS/MHz
Cortex-A9: 2.5MIPS/MHz
Cortex-A15: 3.5MIPS/MHZ

So, perhaps slightly less than twice as fast per clock..

I don't think snapdragon in Vigor is 28nm, Krait, S4 one. That will appear next year as it's sampling in Q4. So it's probably snapdragon S3 in vigor like in Evo3D but at higher clock 1.5ghz. Given Tbolt does so horrible on battery with single core snapdragon, I'm not hold breath on Vigor's battery with HD screen, 1.5Ghz speed.

Okay...you're in a desert and you've had no water for 3 days...then you see something on the horizon..."is that...is that...a puddle of water up there?", you ask yourself. "Must...have...water!" You get closer and closer, only to realize it was a mirage.

That puddle of water is Vigor my man. Take a step back, shake yourself and pull it together. Think...THUNDERBOLT and back away very slowly.

Until HTC proves they've got the battery/LTE thing figured out I'll never buy another HTC product. 3 battery pulls a day is complete B.S.

Definitely not, was just responding to a post asking about Krait performance vs Scorpion.

Vigor will definitely be an S3 Snapdragon, but dual core with Adreno 220 at least.. instead of single core with Adreno 205.

Pretty sure its just the screen since I can still use it like I always have. I just now have an ugly crack going across it lol...like I said, its been through hell and back including a 3 foot dip into cooling tower while it was ringing. I dove in after it, answered the call and kept on going. That was just after the release of it so I guess I can complain that its lasted this long :D

Yeah, I noticed that on bionic forums. Maybe Yoda's 4G 15+ hours claim was under light usage. Then I can see it lasting that much, but definitely not under heavy or even medium use.

I think Samsung has shown in Charge that they can manage battery in LTE phone better than others. Prime is rumored to have 1850mAh battery and OMAP 4460 is probably more efficient than 4430 in bionic, not just higher clock. Also who knows if ICS has improved power management than gingerbread.

Since I've pretty much decided to choose this phone over the Bionic, I thought I'd try to contribute something here and create a pictures thread. They are pretty hard to find and I'm not sure how many that are out there are official.

I've only found one so far though. If anyone knows of more, please add them here. Thanks!

(I posted this under the Droid Prime category and was asked to post this here as well. Just in case anyone was wondering why I was "spamming" the forums.)
