***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

OK, time for me to chime in....

My brother-in-law got a call last week from a VZW rep informing him that he has has his NE2, unused, for over 2 years and if he wanted to use it....I won't waste time on the details but he winds up being offered the Nexus Galaxy and putting it on hold via the CSR.

Cut to today when he texts me this and this is our direct back and forth via text:

HIM: I just called you from a Galaxy Nexus phone and left you a message (he did, I let the call go to voicemail since I didn't recognize the number. The number was 818-307-3262, by the way....hope that doesn't violate any rules but it isn't someones actual phone, just a store training demo number, so hopefully that is kosher to post)

ME: How did you call from it?

HIM: I went into a store and bugged them to let me try it out. Had it for 15 minutes. I wanted to make sure I liked it. (He's coming from an LG Envy....so it is quite a change in phones.)

ME: It's been delayed they are saying now. Which store did you go into?

HIM: Tarzana, CA. He said early next week.

ME: Interesting.

HIM: They have them there. He said they have 5 cases of them in the back. Something about 4G system caused the delay.

ME: Did he give you a hard date?

HIM: He just said early next week. I can't buy it there. Have to buy it online to get the discount. He wants me to buy from him.

ME: I'll buy it from him today. :)

HIM: Ya, that's what I said. He said the phone he brought of for me to try was a demo for the employees to practice on. He first said he could not bring it out and then caved in and let me try it out. how was the sound quality?

ME: very good.

END CHAT.

Just doing my part and passing what I think is pretty interesting, and hopefully new, info along to you guys.

My wife is not very tech savvy. I got her a Droid 3, but she wants me to do everything for her. I have tried on numerous occasions to sit down with her and show her all the features, nope. She does like sports though, especially football and hockey. Oh and she was a Junior Olympics National Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido champion. So she can kick my ass. I find that hot as hell :)

I don't trust Verizon at all anymore. I think that they saw the Galaxy Nexus as a threat. Any superpowered device free of any bloatware could have spelled death for a lot of contracts if it had gone to other carriers, so I think Verizon got it exclusivity on it so they could delay it into the ground and keep their customers on bloatware-filled phones.

Expected release date?

March 12th.

Seriously. I don't believe Verizon will do it anymore.

Personally?

They've got four days to announce something before I buy an iPhone.
So then their plan is working.

As a started walking back I turned around for a second and the guy looked at me and said "Come back tomorrow morning" and winked at me.

I keep hearing about cases like this, and it makes me wonder if these are just sales people who missed the memo about the delay? Or have they received more information indicating the 9th is back on as planned?

Now that is awesome! My wife is a 2nd degree purple in Hapkido....she hasn't had to use it on me yet. Hard to find a lady who likes sports, especially football.

Just wondering if shipping delays to stores is the holdup? Just a thought since it's the Christmas rush and some stores have them and some not.

So I just called three stores.

1. "Sorry, we have no idea when it's coming. Check the internet, it will be there before we know." (Kind of a rude guy, but probably taking Nexus calls all day.)

2. "Sorry, we don't know."

3. (Very nice young lady): "Well, it was supposed to launch today, and then tomorrow, and now it's delayed again and they're telling us next week. But call back Monday or Tuesday."

She had a nervous laugh at the end, but I (for some reason) don't take that to mean she's hiding something. I think she's embarrassed and how stupid her employer is.

I converted my girlfriend from the iphone to android. As for sports, she likes college football where as I only watch the NFL. I have gotten her into hockey though.

Could be. Not from what I've seen here locally though. Although I don't have a picture of them sitting in the back room at the store, I firmly believe they are present.

I went to a BB today and asked the manager if they had received any stock. He hesitantly admitted that they did, but said he had no release date. I asked if he knew why. He said that he thinks it's because there is a new phone coming out and that they don't want it to compete. He went on to suggest that the iPhone 5 is likely getting ready for release....hahah!

Do you know how hard it was to stand in front of this guy and hold a straight face!?!?

Anyway...I talked to about 5 different stores (corp and auth retailer) just to see if they have stock. Almost every one did and all of them said they would be fired if they even showed me the phone. It was consistent...I was shocked! All indicated frustration in not being able to help more. I didn't push it...just asked the basic questions and thanked them for their time.

I just called my local store as well. She said the last email she received said the 15th. However, I said that some other people on forums were reporting their reps were saying they got an updated email saying the 9th again. She said she'd go check her email and ask her coworkers to do it and get back to me. The 15th sounds more plausible to me, though.

So I just called the store I had an appointment with at 9 am tomorrow and they confirmed that they got word the release was supposedly delayed. However, he did state they were waiting on word before the end of the day on an update and were planning to give calls to everyone who had appointments before they left this evening. He did mention that there was a big issue with demo units being shown off without approval from someone(Verizon? Samsung? Google?) who knows ..... Stay tuned I guess.....

My wife isn't either. I tried to get her into Android with the Eris and then handed down my OG Droid to her but she was always frustrated with it. The best thing I ever did was get her the iPhone. Its the perfect "smart" phone for non-techie types IMO.

Okay, thanks to some helpful forum members, I now know that I'm not a nobody. :)

The last thing I want to do is add to the circus that we've experienced over the last month waiting on this phone. After reading further reports of delay here, I got a little nevous and called the local resller again. He assured me that tomorrow is the date, and I can indeed purchase a galaxy nexus. I mentioned my concern based on what I'm reading here about 15th, etc. He said that once they get the email (like he did today), it is a done deal. He said they never cancel the release after sending out this email. But never say never where the galaxy nexus is concerned, right? I pressed further, and the guy offered to call me if anything changes before the store closes today.

I REALLY don't want to be "that guy" who spreads misinformation. Is ANYONE else hearing the launch tomorrow is still on? It would certainly give me some peace if I knew others were hearing the same thing. Otherwise, I'm remaining cautiously optimistic that I may have a new toy tomorrow around 9:01am. :)

I agree that the 15th sounds more reasonable, especially since many stores said they don't have stock. They could be lying, but it seemed like there were too many of them saying they had none for it to be a coverup/lying situation.

Maybe they planned on the 9th, but shipments were delayed or distribution was screwed up for some reason, so they had to push it out. *shrug* It's anyone's guess at this point. But I'd give the 15th much more of a chance than tomorrow.
