I'm going call it a night as well. I think we all have to stay positive for a 12/15 release. Or, as some have reported hearing, possibly a surprise release tomorrow :D

Now, not to be Debby Downer, but I really believe if we don't see it this week, I have serious doubt's we'll see it this year :(

Shhhh - don't say that.

And G'Night WormDoes!

Anyone else praying for a soft launch at all? Its a good thing I work at the mall. The corporate store is only a few stores down from where I work, so if it does happen I'll hopefully be making the transaction on a lunch break.

that's better

I'd like to believe this too. BUT, the phone was released on NOVEMBER 17TH in most of the world. A month ago! So what is Verizon testing? Yes, it has an LTE chip. Does that require a month of additional testing? And why is Verizon so heavily involved in that aspect of the phone? It's a Google phone, updates direct from Google with no Verizon influence. But they are rigorously testing the device that the rest of the world is already using?

I'm sorry, but I think the testing argument is just flat wrong, as much as I wish it wasn't.

So you think that every source that has mentioned that the LTE radio as being the phone's weakpoint wasn't telling the truth?

Verizon's LTE network has had compatibility issues with other phones...they'd probably prefer to not repeat those issues again, especially with what's expected to be a groundbreaking device. It's their network, that's why they're involved. Do you really think every other Nexus phone has had no involvement from the carrier? That's absolutely ludicrous to suggest.

We've heard reports that recent software updates have made the radio much better. We also saw a leak that indicated that the phone would be subject to an OTA within an hour or two of being activated. Those that have already received the phone have indicated that they haven't received an OTA yet.

A reasonable person can come to the conclusion that the delay was caused from the OTA not being ready to go last Friday. All we can do is hope that it's ready this week.

The way I see it, until we see a leak of the e-mail every reseller and store is waiting for, we shouldn't expect a release for at least 1-2 days.

I think the only scenario that makes any sense from the info we have from our leaks is that Google and Verizon are in ongoing talks about the ISIS / GW debacle and they continue to shoot for certain release dates, but until the problem is solved between Google and Verizon they cannot/will not release the Nexus.

They have to do whatever is necessary to mitigate any damages and possibility for litigation over the matter.

At least, that's my take...

This has been my thought as well. If Verizon and Google are in negotiations, VZW would weaken their position if they announce a release date.

It is possible that Verizon's standards are higher than the standards of the other carriers who released a version of this phone. It is possible that Google/Samsung began working on the GSM version before the LTE version and underestimated the amount of time needed for the latter. It is possible that the LTE chip has caused problems with this phone...maybe with battery issues or somewhere else.

The point is that there are many possible reasons for Verizon delaying to make sure that the phone they release is high quality. After all, if the phone had issues on release it would basically doom the phone despite subsequent software updates. There is also the possibility that the delay is unrelated to testing. But based on what we know now, the testing argument is just as likely as any other reason.

The phone I saw received an OTA update IMMEDIATELY after turning it on for the first time. I found that interesting...owners probably don't even know they got it because it was prior to activation.

Okay friends, between Early and me, we must have deleted abooooout 40 posts. That's a lot of work. Love one another below this line, k? :D

Whoa. I always miss the good (er, bad. very bad :p) stuff.

Assuming 12/15 is the day I'm going to try and buy the Gnex right before my international flight... I think I'm crazy.
Won't have much time to play with it regardless, though, considering it's not a world phone :(
(That was an advantage of my TP2, but I digress)

OT:
On a brighter note, I could not be happier about today's win for the Giants. Not only were they victorious, but Dallas lost! That's like two victories rolled into one :D

Playing devil's advocate here, but who's to say that email doesn't flood inboxes around 10:00 AM EST and those stores that have stock start unloading them to those brave enough to hit their local stores? I know, it's unlikely, but anything is possible, right? If I'm Verizon or Google I want this fiasco ironed out ASAP to get these phones sold and dollars/hype flooding in for 2 full weeks of Christmas sales

Honestly i don't think there will be anymore tangible (at least as tangible as the internet can get) leaks. Most stores have the devices, the training materials are out and the displays have arrived. Basicly I'm expecting this thing to launch at 12:01am one day and surprise at the stores at 9am. Followed by a PR release later that day or before the link goes live online. Maybe around 6pm est or later. Verizon has been made a fool since last week and they won't do it again. They will probably play the rest of the launch as close to the chest as they can. The only leaks i expect are word of mouth which will probably be correct.

Just wanted to share some things i witnessed over the weekend, AND add to the 100k goal. :)

Went to a local verizon retailer yesterday (non-corp) asked the guy if they had any stock of Nexus. He said "no". Asked if they were to get any Nexuses (i think thats proper??), the guy said "I hope not". WTF i thought, so i asked why not. he replied "i had 9 samsung phones and they all died on me" Yes, you heard correct, 9.
I said in reply, it's gonna be a pretty great phone, he didn't seem to care and sorta dismissed it. I couldn't stay for long, so didn't have time to chat with this fella.

Another interesting situation was today when i went to Costco. Stopped by the cell kiosk to check out if they upgraded their Nexus dumby phone to a real one. Nope! They didn't even have a dumby anymore. I asked the girl about the Nexus. She said, with a smirk, we don't have it.
Me: What happened with the dumby phone i saw couple days ago?
Girl: We don't have it (again with a weird half smiling face)
Me: Any idea when you will sell it?
Girl: It hasn't come out yet

Nothing new, just thought i'd share. Do you guys think Costco was told to take the dumby Nexus off display?? Kinda weird.

I don't think postponing the release puts them in any position of power, as long signed contracts will have stipulated long before now that they agree to purchase x amount of phones for X price, regardless of release date

Either way, it benefits both companies to get a deal done sooner than later. The longer the phone sits in back rooms instead of on shelves and in customer's hands, the less money is made by all involved.

+1, Thank you!

I'll add that I don't buy the conspiracy theories of wanting to sell more of the RAZR, not now anyway. Maybe back on 11/10 when both the RAZR and ReZound dropped. Maybe they had already decided to hold back the Nexus for a little bit to give breathing room. That was a logical conclusion.

But there was a huge effort, taking lots of manpower and money, to get the devices in stores in the beginning of last week, for sale on the 9th. All of the leaked shipping documents that I saw mentioned how the phone wasn't being shipped in the standard way, that it was being shipped as quickly as possible to all locations, and that there were special methods of stocking and inventory that all stores needed to follow. Verizon just wasted a ton of money on shipping and what was likely extra staffing across the board to achieve this. I don't believe they would have knowingly wasted there own money if they weren't serious about the 9th.

This also indicates to me that there aren't any legal issues holding things up. They wouldn't have targeted the 9th internally unless all was settled legally. Not to mention Google/Verizon wouldn't have signed the exclusivity contract and the contract to carry the phone before all legal issues were solved well ahead of time. Companies just don't sign things like that unless there are agreements in place ahead of time. Not to mention the whole Google Wallet thing is a ludicrous theory to begin with.

LTE issues. Updates were supposed to go out 2 hours after activation. No one that mentioned to snag a device early got an OTA. OTA not ready yet, however internal testers got the update the morning of the 9th. Phone delayed due to software issues still being worked out. Sounds completely plausible to me, and in fact sounds like the only plausible explanation to me.

Its shame if there really is a battle between VZW and Google.

VZW will lose a lot, Because of the Moto/Google ties and Samsung will not put up with this again.

Just imagine VZW with no High end Moto and Samsung devices.
The Grim Reaper is stalking VZW as we speak.

I don't know. Verizon is so prevalent that it would be a huge mistake for any OEM to cut themselves off from them, because they would then be cutting themselves off from a huge part of the market. I think that, just like us, Samsung and Googorola are just going to have to grit their teeth and take it, unfortunately.

I was referring to any rumored rift and negotiations over Google Wallet.
