the number of people who will pay unsubsidized prices and import are small in the grand scheme of things. its not a world exclusive, but a US exclusive and unless i totally missed it no other us carriers have said they are carrying it anytime soon, or at all

My guess is the way the exclusives work is Verizon gets it for said time...if delay was truly due to hardware/software issues and not on any part due to Verizon that time period will still be valid (well say 2 months exclusive for Verizon) so sadly for the other carriers they will be delayed too. Just a guess though.

When I look over that page, I just see universal accessories that will work for the Nexus. I don't see any Nexus-specific accessories that will be out when the phone actually releases.

But, thanks for posting. I LOL'd at the cigarette lighter holder that exclaims "This does not charge your phone!" :D Of course it won't charge the phone when it's using up the lighter port. The only people I see buying one of those is if their cars have more than one cigarette lighter port.

It needs an external program, commonly called CWR (Clock Work Recovery).

When the phone boots up, it can go into this special mode that lets you backup your phone, restore, and install ROMS. And other such goodies like clearing the Davlik cache, etc.

But the only way to use it is to be rooted. If you're not rooted, then no CWR.

Titanium backup is another useful app that will backup your programs and data, and can freeze certain programs from running. One of the only ways to remove "bloatware". Again, you need to be rooted to use this as well.

You could buy out of a contract - I think it's a $350 early termination fee for a smartphone and it goes down a little each month (maybe $5?); if either your mom or your sister has had the Dinc from its release it may not cost you that much. Do you still have the money you got when sold your TB?

And maybe your sister didn't miss out on the free Dinc2 - maybe she planned to wait for the Nexus.:rolleyes:
 
I was thinking of waiting awhile to root just in case there is anything wrong with the phone. Is it just as easy to unroot and re-lock the phone with this method?

I'm not sure my parents would approve of buying a device out of contract lol. Unless there's some way I can "cheat" the system to get all of us new devices without spending too much money...

I had to go to FedEx this afternoon and while I was out I decided I'd stop in at the Verizon store in my local mall and ask about the Nexus. I don't expect anything from these people, but since it's a very busy store I thought there might be a chance they had somewhat up-to-date info. I hope not.

I asked the lady when the Galaxy Nexus would be released and she says "Oh, you mean the Nexus Prime? That will be coming out after the new year; it's been delayed."

Considering she isn't using the production release name I figure she knows nothing at all, but that definitely made my heart sink a little bit. If I don't have this phone before Christmas I very well may switch to a GSM carrier.

Haven't we definitively established that a) they know less than we do; and b) even so, a great many of them probably get their kicks screwing with people who come in asking about phones that haven't been released? Don't get your knickers in a knot over something a sales rep tells you - good or bad. :p
 
so nice to see some love for ClockworkMod and ROM manager in this thread. i really liked them both on my droid, but even mentioning those words in the Thunderbolt forum was almost enough to start a fight. i used them in secret for awhile, then switched to TeamWinRecovery just to avoid being berated every time i mentioned CWM. still haven't figured out what those guys have against it, but it will be a welcome addition to my GNex as soon as it comes out of the box.

I'm not sure you got what I meant - you'd pay the $150 or so to terminate the old contract, then get the Nexus at the 2 year contract price with a new contract.

As a mom who's trying to keep 5 kids happy with their phones, I can see your parents' viewpoint - your TB is/was newer than your sister's Dinc, just because you want a new phone more doesn't mean you deserve it more.

That's weird because those are the only recovery softwares I've ever used on my Android devices (being the DX and the Xoom).

CWM is very user-friendly and so simple to use.
 
I just got salt water in my DInc. :( It was making funny blinky lights on the notification light. I took it apart and hosed it down with electro contact cleaner. We'll see. I may have to reanimate my old Krzr.
