***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

What a disappointing start to the week.:(

Maybe if your life revolved around a phone right? But it doesn't so you're good.

Mr Lick (I think that is his name) said an announcement at 10AM this morn, but never specified EST/PST etc...

Maybe, just maybe we'll still hear something today. If not we're that much closer.

If you so desired, you could go create a phone specifically for Verizon's network and use it. Nobody is going to mass produce a phone for Verizon's network without their approval though because Verizon won't sell it if they don't approve it.

IMEIs have to be authorized through Verizon so you couldn't just make a phone.

What a disappointing start to the week.:(

Don't rule out today yet for some good news. It's still early, and with the original GNex announcement from Verizon, it was not a trickle, it was a flood, everyone had the press release within minutes of each other. I was here, this thread went from frustrated to elated in a matter of seconds. It's gonna be that quick again I imagine.

If lawyers are involved, we're screwed

Just an fyi, lawyers are involved, at some level, in EVERY phone release like this. Chief may be on to something, that VZW may be hedging on violating some antitrust laws. However, that's not the lawyers doing that. If anything, they are trying to be sure it's legal (if that is even the issue.) :)

And I know already, Apple has a name for themselves and people will buy whatever they sell without knowing a darn thing about it, so maybe in a couple years after more people get comfortable with Android and the Nexus becomes a phone more and more people are interested in they might have a chance to do the same thing.

I think Apple gets a pass for a few reasons.
1) Apple doesn't have all of these "leaks". There was a lot of talk about the latest internal word and we all took it to heart as truth. This thread and others like it are the reason Verizon is catching so much flack.
2) Apple releases it's own product. Period. Their only deal with Verizon is that Verizon subsidizes the phone for their customers. Regardless of what Verizon has to say about it, Apple will release the phone when they deem it ready. There is not an issue with a service provider sticking their hands into the process. If Verizon weren't okay with this, I'm sure Apple would release it anyway and leave it to Verizon to explain why their customers can't purchase subsidized, or they'd be force to sell subsidized because they'd lose customers who would say, "What the heck is wrong with you Verizon? All my AT&T friends have it! I thought we moved past this issue?"
3) Apple is reliable with their release dates. I don't mean that product comes out at the same date every year. I mean that they don't announce a product until it's ready and they release it right after they announce it. Every time.
4) Verizon is not reliable and they have a record that proves it. Their process and additions to phones (both smart and otherwise) have delayed devices that were ready for consumers. On the smartphone side we can walk down memory lane to the Bionic or even the Nexus One. I'm sure there have been several others that we haven't even heard about.

Now to wrap it all up with my biggest gripe. Verizon needs to stop selling phones and reduce it's monthly services fees. They are a service provider. Period.
They also need to stop selling products/features as services. Thether anyone?
I imagine that they'd sell access to your gmail account as a separate data package if they could. How about Pandora (VZRadio+), YouTube (VZVideo now with Google), Netflix (VZVideo Premium), etc...

Rant Over.

1) Not true. I assume you don't read Engadget, BGR, Gizmodo etc. How many stories do we get of "HERE IS THE NEW IPHONE 5 PART LOOK AT THIS SCREEN AND THIS APPLE TAG OMG SO AWESOME" or "iPad5 Pictures of cases!" etc. If your talking about direct leaks from Apple, how about losing phones in bars? It happens to everyone.

2) Your giving Apple a pass for what Verizon is attempting to do. They don't want to announce a date then miss it. Its two totally different ecosystems, one of total control of every step from software to manufacturing to one of providing a product manufactured by others while trying to deal/create a Corporate strategy that works best for you. You pointed this out yourself, then went on to rage against what you admitted has more steps and processes.

3) Verizon as far as phone companies go are fairly reliable with their "published" release dates. Again forget about all leaks and all internal documents that you were never meant to see, and go with published dates. You can't use knowledge that you gained through non official sources to attempt to blame them for this.

4) This is debatable. The Bionic was so bad it was completely redesigned 2 times, would you really have liked for them to release that phone? I'm not going to get into software, yes I would prefer to not have "Let's Golf" etc on my phone, but unfortunately its the way of the industry. As a power user I'm going to remove it and move on with my life, not worth throwing a fit over. Non power users are going to ignore it.

Regarding the rest of your rant. Verizon is a business, they exist to make money. Please don't assume they are any different than other providers. T-Mobile is cheaper because it has to be to compete in the market. Not because they are your noble friends who want you to pay less for phone service. Do I think that wireless service is extremely expensive? Yes I do. It blows my mind that behind rent and food wireless is nearly my next largest expense. That being said, I am fully aware that I am paying a premium for a luxury service. Do I need this awesome smartphone that I have? No. I could survive with a dumb phone

And I know already, Apple has a name for themselves and people will buy whatever they sell without knowing a darn thing about it, so maybe in a couple years after more people get comfortable with Android and the Nexus becomes a phone more and more people are interested in they might have a chance to do the same thing.

Even so, android will always require a person to compare and make a choice, every time they get a new phone. No blindly following the masses, like Apple allows you to do.

True, but yes you could just make a phone. Do you think Verizon is going to tell you "No, we won't sell you a voice or data plan" ? If you call them up and tell them you have a phone you want to activate, they'll activate it.

Curious to all the folks out there:
With a handful of the reviews coming back with some unfavorable aspects of the device, are we all going to buy it outright, or check on the device in stores and compare them to the Razr/Rezound (or it you're on another carrier, their other phones)? Does this make us borderline iSheep by buying a phone without considering other options? Personally, I think all issues can/should be ironed out with OTAs and dev. support. And, honestly, if this thing runs as fast as my Bionic, I'll be plenty happy for another couple years.

There's the potential for that, but with launches like this, Google's not doing themselves any favors.

Maybe if the Admin changes the title of this thread to "Thousands jump ship to another carrier, tired of waiting any longer for the Galaxy Nexus from Verizon" than proceeds to close the thread...

Ahh nvm I guess they'll just see my post and figure it out :D

Katy: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
Me: I was hoping to get some clarification on my account and upgrading my cell phone.
Katy: I would be happy to assist you with upgrading your phone!
Me: I see the account 614XXXXXXX is elgibile for an upgrade. I would like to upgrade the phone for the line 614ZZZZZZZ using this upgrade.
Katy: Okay great!
Me: I have done this in the past and there has never been an issue, but with one line being an LTE with a SIM versus the iPhone, I wanted to make sure all was well.
Katy: I would be happy to walk you through the upgrade process.
Me: Before we get going though I wanted to make sure the Galaxy Nexus was indeed available for sale today.
Katy: Would you mind holding for a moment while I check that information?
Me: Not that the internet, or even ads are always correct, but I have seen ads/fliers in pop-up ads that indicate it's for sale today.
Me: Sure, great.
Katy: Thank You.
Katy: As of now it is not available.
Me: Oh ok. Well I appreciate it. Any idea when it will be available?
Katy: Thank you for your inquiry. We are still on track to announce the availability of the Galaxy Nexus by Samsung this year. We encourage you to sign up at www.verizonwireless.com/galaxynexus so you will be alerted when the phone becomes available."

I'll buy it outright and if it is crappy take it back. But with all the reviews, the "unfavorable" ones bring up negatives that wouldn't bother me.

You have got to be kidding me. New leak video. The guy in this video is showing a demo of a Galaxy Nexus Verizon LTE *HARDWARE* problem with the antenna. This is going to require a rework of the entire lot of phones already produced. The dude says to not expect the phone until at least FEBRUARY 2012! Off to get my Rezound! It's been fun folks!

Galaxy Nexus LTE Infinite Loop

I still have this damn song in my head.

IMEIs are almost like the serial number of Net modem to your Cable company.. Sure go buy a new Motorola Surf board and you still have to call in to allow traffic to pass to it.

Same thing for phones, that's why an IMEI from a Sprint CDMA phone won't work on Verizon, they are given out to each unique device and manufacturers are given a cluster of them to attach to their radios.

I guess the other part of it is, while plenty of OEMs have promised to upgrade their devices to ICS, when will it happen? Jan, Feb, June? This is really the biggest appeal for me; that and incredible dev. support. Also, I haven't seen any leaks of any devices launching with ICS (correct me if I'm wrong; maybe some Chinese Sharp phone?), so that's another huge selling point.

I haven't seen anything in a review that has swayed me from this phone yet. Battery life is not a main driver, nor is camera quality as long as it is not horrific. Plus the forumite reviews have been glowing for the most part here.

It blows my mind that behind rent and food wireless is nearly my next largest expense.

Just curious, is booze included in food, or do you actually spend less on booze than you do on wireless, because that would be impressive, especially with all the Gnex release date-induced stress.
