Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

I have the same problem. Usually, it's the things on my mind that keep me awake. Some are issues that I cannot fix; sad memories; then, there's the old standby called regret. I sympathize with you, and it has been tough for me on many nights. However, I played a gig last night that was very therapeutic for me, at least. Still, the voices from the past torment me regularly. Psychiatry and therapy along with medicine has helped... yet, the bad thoughts continue. I recently experienced nearly losing my fianc

How often do you work out?
I find I sleep much easier on days I work out compared to days I don't

Do you drink caffeine?
I realized that I was drinking caffeine too late and it was affecting my sleep..I love soda but I made a rule, no caffeine after 9pm. I've also chosen to drink more caffeine free soda

Have you tried a fan or ambient noise machine?
These are a huge help for me

Do you read before bed?
I find reading a chapter before bed relaxes me..if you already do, perhaps this activity is stimulating your brain too much before bed..

I would take a look at your daily activities and see what adjustments you can make...hope this helps :)
I think more exercise will help but not reading. not at all. you say you read a chapter or so, but I get so into the book and can't put it down and end up staying up all night to read the entire second book of the hunger games. hehe

no reading before bed. because when I do I never want to stop reading. I have an addiction

but I always have my ambient noise of my computers running. running for our boinc team.

Call me a hater if you will. Google sucks at getting the weather. Bing seems to get that when sky's are clear. It ain't raining.

Learn to use NOAA. You can get all the maps you want.
App called Quickweather (now with light ads, apparently) uses the desktop version of NOAA, and the old version of Weather Underground. I prefer maps with the jet stream.

Accuweather can't find your right location - Intellicast and all astronomy programs can by GPS alone.

You can have both radar and satellite overlays on Intellicast.

This isn't really a rant, but is a PSA. I have officially applied to Micro Center. If I get this job I'll be blessed. No more coming here and ranting about my job. I feel this big relief has been take off my shoulders. Wish me good karma I get an interview.

I'm a bit nervous. What if I get an interview? The only time I have been I interviewed was with my club back in high school.

I get so nervous and make no sense when I talk and repeat myself. Any tips to overcome this?

Don't lie, don't make stuff up. It's OK to embellish, but don't stretch a 20 mile bike ride into a Tour de France win if you get my drift. Let them know you are willing to work your way up. Be yourself[sup]1[/sup], but don't be flip. Make sure you look them in the eye when you answer questions.

You will probably be asked if you have any questions, prepare for them. Asking questions shows you are engaged in the company and the interview. Don't ask how often you get raises, as that sounds self centered. Prepare to be able to tell them about yourself. And I don't mean respond to questions, I mean have an "elevator speech" ready. A short biography of yourself including education, interests, and accomplishments that you can recite on demand when you are nervous.

A lot of folks from you generation think nothing of texting or fakebooking during an interview. Trust me, that isn't a good interview skill. Turn your damn phone off. Not even on vibrate. Even if there is a family emergency, there will be nothing you can do during the interview. Don't let a vibrating phone from you bud that wants to hang out be the cause of a poor interview. I'll say it again, turn off the phone.

Where your best clothes, at least a button down shirt and tie. Make sure they are ironed and clean. Where shoes, not sneakers. If necessary, polish the shoes.

[sup]1[/sup]You should be yourself unless you are an a$$hole, then act like someone else.:p The previous is my sarcasm bleeding through. This has nothing to do with you SF, but in case anyone else is reading this.:D

I think Wynd already mentioned in the Tablet Tavern thread to do a little research about the company you're applying for. And to expand on what Pup mentioned, I found it also helped to prepare to ask the interviewer questions about him/herself, just in case. To get to know the person a little better.

Examples: "How long have you been with the company?" "What were you doing before you got your current position?" "What's the one thing you like most about your position?" etc.

And please, DO NOT look desperate during the interview! That's one quick way to being rejected as a candidate. Show some confidence, but not arrogance.

People who drive their cars with all of the nanny-protection technologies have essentially become sovereign states within their automobiles. Even with Bluetooth phones installed in the cars, you'll still see them texting, making entries into their tablets, and changing lanes without directionals... arkady, in generations to come, humans will eventually be equipped with computing technologies biologically-installed within their bodies; original thoughts will be supplanted with nanotechnological devices installed in the human brain... ah, yes - the devolution of Homo Sapiens is already beginning. A hive mentality will be the norm, just like ants and bees. No more originality; no more individuals making decisions. That's my rant. By then, cars will be driving themselves. So much for the id of humanity... it chills me to the bone.

You make it sound.... Depressing.

I welcome the future or humans evolving with computers. However, when we're driving that's not the time to be using the phone. Most people my age text while drive but I even cringe at the thought. I have a rule.. No using phone while I'm driving.... Period. Not at stop lights or anything. No talking no texting anything.

My sister is different. Snapchat will be the accident of her. As long as she got it on snapchat...

/heartily agree shouldn't text and drive. Soooo dangerous. When I do talk on the phone in the car I put the phone in the middle of the car and use speaker. Whenever driving I am very focused on the road. Think it's cuz my eyes are bad so I take driving very seriously.

I never like talking on the phone when I drove until I got my new truck. It connects to my phone via blue tooth and uses voice commands. I press a button on the steering wheel to answer the phone or open my contacts. If I am calling out, I just say "Call xxxxx" and it dials. I never put much value on having a bluetooth enables stereo until I had one. Now I won't live without it.
