Root [Release] Android 2.2 Froyo for the Droid X

FYI, I did the stagefright edit and I can no longer watch vids recorded by the phone itself. Just doesn't play. So may want to avoid it.

But just in case it does have something to do with Spare Parts, this is exactly the situation I encountered:

1) Upgraded to 2.2 and upon first boot, the battery info was working fine. I used the phone for several hours and was able to check the battery info every time.

2) Rebooted the phone later on and ended up using Spare Parts to check for the GPS bug (where it would show 100% after GPS was enabled). Seemed fine.

3) Went into Battery Manager and clicked on the Battery icon to see the stats, but got the "Force Close" issue. Tried opening it several times with the same issue.

4) Went back into Spart Parts and it was still on the screen that shows battery history, but it was different (showed 100% for everything). So I backed out of that screen with the back button and then went back into it. Now everything showed up just fine again (different percentages, etc).

5) Exited from Spare Parts and fired up Battery Manager and was able to see the stats again with no problem. Has been working fine every since.

Frankly, I don't think it has anything to do with Spare Parts now. Like the others have mentioned, it seems to cause the error when you first boot but ends up working after a while. I have no idea why this would be the case? Perhaps there's some app or setting that we are switching on/off that is causing it to work or stop working?

that didn't work for me. i was trying to get rid of bloatware earlier and renamed a bunch of apps like blockbuster, skype, amazon, etc. and my Maps kept crashing. once i renamed them back it worked. i decided to try renaming one app at a time to see what app was causing it to crash. i started with skype since that likes to run by itself all the time. Maps was fine. but now the battery manager would force close. i tried your steps and still no good. i decided to rename skype back and then it worked. i doubt skype is tied into it but maybe it had something to do with when i changed to read/write and back to read only mode in root explorer. maybe it did something to let me go back into the battery manager? so confusing :confused:
 
Trying to help my friend. He deleted his bloatware and I installed the APK's of the ones he did delete. now when I try to install that Droidx_rooted_froyo file in the OP it says it's aborted because it's missing the CityID app, yet the app is installed on the phone again...I can go on it right now and click CityId.

ANY help??

Installing it doesn't work, you need to copy the APK files to /system/app

I copied mine to the SD Card, then mounted /system as read/write and copied them over to /system/app

So:
Copy over the apks to the root of your SD Card
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /sdcard
cp nameoffile.apk /system/app/nameoffile.apk

**Not sure if I used cp or mv. If the copy command doesn't work, try the move command.

ok thanks man, i'll try that. Also, 3g mobile hotspot isn't in the systemapp.zip file floating around...where do i get that?
 
anyone know what to do on this step of installing 2.2 from ROM Manager?

ROM Pre-Installation:
Backup Existing ROM [x]
Wipe Data and Cache [x]

...I think I need to do both, correct me if I'm wrong? I just don't want to do something horribly wrong. Thanks!

p.s. I already TI Backup'd everything before this, and did the Bootstrap to make a recovery file too.

If i went to restore "todays froyo" would it just reapply the backup I made earlier?

And if I go to download ROM, that's where I will be able to apply future roms I may want to test out? I see the droid x 2.2 one there now.

A second later froyo release made it out? Link?

I need to roll back to 2.1, root, and then upgrade to 2.2 again anyway. and having the later version makes sense.

bootstrap recovery is clockworkmod recovery from rom manager, once you press bootstrap recovery in the app you never have to go in it again. Then you go into rom manager press flash clockwork at the top and then you can do everything from there for now on. Yes backup and yes I did wipe data and cache but just restore with your TIBu after

Then you better not activate it and try booting to recovery. I did and you will bootloop until you re flash the sbf
 
ooo. ok. cuz i just did the restore all missin apps and data. i didn't do the user data...i was afraid it would mess up all my "accounts" and phone settings I just manually restored. (yah, it was annoying and lengthy...setting up gmail, facebook, etc, just like a brand new phone)
